Halloween Event 2013
Totally the Best Holiday

sup nerds
we're having a halloween event this year, and because certain people no longer count themselves among us (and they will be missed ;_ ;), thedubious honor of herding cats pleasure of inviting you all to a remote location to have a 2spooky2scary party falls to me
So, let's get down to business: where is this party being held, and will there be an open bar?
As it happens, we've all been invited to a remote little island in the Caribbean, where a fabulously generous band of obscenely rich gentlemen who totally aren't undead pirates/smugglers are hosting a party in theirsecret smuggling base repurposed lighthouse-fortress. There's a picture here somewhere. Probably above. I can't be sure.
But will there be an open bar?
I'll get to that in a minute. First, let's talk a little bit about what kind of thread this is going to be. What we're looking at here is a quasi-canonical, non-combat thread in which people are free to meet and mingle with people who they otherwise wouldn't interact with, or under circumstances that don't require quite as much violence as would be necessary otherwise. So what exactly does quasi-canonical mean? Put at its simplest, it means we expect you all to post in a manner that would make sense for your character if all the bloodthirsty was taken out of them and perhaps replaced with mischievousness. It means that acting completely out of character would be—well, not poor form—awkward and kinda weird. It's your character, and not you, that has been invited, and as such you're expected to act appropriately. Quasi-canonical also means that once the event is over, it has, for all intents and purposes, not actually occurred. It was a dream, or whatever, and while your character may or may not remember it (up to you), they weren't actually on a Caribbean island drinking pumpkin-flavored mojitos.
Jesus
that sounds delicious
Yes, but will there be an open bar?
Duh.
chills!
I like to think that we've learned from last year's mistakes and seeing as the previous thread died more or less immediately after the combat element was included, we have chosen to forego that particular part this year and instead focus on merriment. There will, however, be a small token of appreciation handed out to those who participate (don't get your hopes up, it's not a miniature copy of Mitsutaka's Bankai) that I hope will be a fun addition to your character's tech thread. Or, you know, you can just not accept it, that's fine too.
The scene will be set in the opening post of the thread and there will be no particular posting order followed—just follow the regular rules for participation in group threads, and try to keep the costumes at least relatively work-safe (but you should absolutely provide pictures, especially if they're skimpy).
Oh, and by the way
October is hurricane season in the Caribbean
prepare to get cozy
romance!
no.
or well, yes. Bring a date. If you're Tova, bring several! Watch them fight in a manner akin to that of cats.
no, wait
tova can't come because he's shit and never posts
spookily asked questions!
Do I get GP for this?
yup, regular posting GP with group thread rates of return
Is this canonical and should I refer to it in my character's storyline?
nope. or rather, "refer to it as you wish, but there's no guarantee anyone else will answer with yeah that was a totally sweet kegger at Troy's place if you ask them if they were in attendance
Where can I find last year's Halloween Event and will this be conducted in a similar manner?
Halloween TWENTY-TWELVE can be found here, and yes, it will be very similar, although we're going to have a fixed start and end time (give or take a few days, no doubt), and there won't be a thread-killing fight sequence at the end.
So when does it start? When's it end?
the event will run from October 17th to November 7th with the OP going up basically whenever I'm awake sometime right around the start date. Timezones are a bitch, deal w/ it
Whose fucking idea was this anyway?
Technically, Cho-Ah's, and we owe the success of last year's thread to her and to everyone who participated with such gusto. The torch has passed to me for no other reason than halloween is fucking awesome
Is Tova actually banned?
yes
fuck that guy
