Tetsuya quietly followed the man garbed in what was the equivalent of a ninja outfit. The cowardly shinigami recruit guessed the member was a member of the Omnitsukidou. Perhaps all shinigami that belonged to the second division wore this attire rather than the traditional shinigami outfit. Tetsuya really hoped this division accepted him. The only real problem for him was their chain of command, the captain of the division was a woman…one of those lovely yet terrifying creatures that made Tetsuya cringe in horror every time one got into his general air space. The ninja man had earlier explained that they had recently obtained a lieutenant who would be taking care of his interview for induction. When Tetsuya asked the man for his interviewer’s name he replied that it was going to be the captain herself, Chinda Kiriko. After that little discussion when the man met with Tetsuya and explained what was happening both were relatively silent.
Tetsuya was able to maintain his silent and near emotionless composure since there were no women around, at least not yet. He would have to brace himself for the interview. In a sense, Tetsuya seemed even more emotionless than the ninja beside him and his face wasn’t covered up.
Eventually, they reached a room where the dark clothed man slid a door open. “Your interview will take place here. Chinda Taichou will meet with you shortly,” he explained. Tetsuya nodded. “Thank you,” the small recruit replied as he walked inside the room to have a seat, the ninja closing the door behind him.
Inside it was essentially what the mortal world would call a six tatami mat apartment. It was small and the only thing in there was a table and two mats to sit on. Tetsuya sat down on his knees in the prototypical fashion of respect as he took a deep breath. He had to steel himself. If it was just a single woman he would be okay overall, however he still knew about himself and his issues. A woman, who was no doubt twice as strong as Tetsuya was, probably more, would no doubt cause Tetsuya’s condition to kick in. Hell, women weaker than Tetsuya made him shiver. Being a gynophobe had that kind of effect on you when it was as bad as Tetsuya’s. Even during his training at the academy it was so bad that instructors had to, extremely reluctantly, accommodate for Tetsuya’s mental ‘illness’ if it could be called that. He was never placed directly next to a girl and he never went through zanjutsu training against a girl once it became apparent they couldn’t fix the problem. This only added to the insults that were given to him and increased the number of times he was recommended to quit the academy by his instructors. Tetsuya would have followed their advice if not for his desires to overcome his weakness, and the glaring fact that what awaited him in the rukongai was nothing more than an unpleasant end.
Tetsuya tried to go through his mind and prepare for all the questions he would be asked. Obviously his fear of women was going to be asked about. What could he offer to the second division? What were his talents? Tetsuya’s only true talent was hiding. He wasn’t strong physically and his spiritual power was low, low enough that he if he didn’t eat, even without training; he’d lose enough to get hungry on residual power, which left his body naturally, alone.
Tetsuya waited for what at least seemed like a while. The whole time Tetsuya was meditating and trying to maintain his cool at least enough to get through the interview. Deep breaths, eyes closed. How effective would it be in end? One could only hope the captain was of the understanding, despite having no reason to be so. His life and the lives of the other division members would be at stake and if Tetsuya could do nothing but shrivel in fear he was worthless.
