Spiritual Pressure, Reiatsu, is a big deal in the world of Bleach Gotei. It is, in all ways, your character's weight on reality. The more powerful their soul, the stronger they are. The stronger they are, the heavier their presence feels.
Of course, most beings don't let their Spiritual Pressure loose all the time. They restrain it to themselves and keep it to a dull roar so they don't negatively affect those around them that might be weaker.
But how much of a difference makes a difference? I tend to keep myself to a few solid rules of thumb when writing.
49 or less above
Only at the highest levels of this range will people feel a weight. Otherwise, the difference is too small to create any noteworthy responses besides being impressed at the gap. In that regard, gaps of 20 or more are considered significant enough to call one person stronger than the other in terms of sheer might.
50 to 149 above
At this level your Spiritual Pressure can induce fear and paralysis from the simple weight. An unprepared bystander could be easily brought to their knees partway through this range. Even at the lower end, the difference in pressure will generate significant unease.
Depending on the attitude and nature of the more powerful opponent, other things are possible as well. A particularly violent being might make the lesser think they'd be struck down, cut apart, or crushed into pulp--but only for a moment. On the other hand, a more neutral or inexpressive person might cause a greater sense of paralysis or even outright despair at the inescapable nature of their presence.
150 to 299 above
Once you cross the 150 Reiatsu threshold you've entered territory in which the gap in spiritual pressure can induce outright unconsciousness. However, the soul tends to defend against this by immediately and, usually, unconsciously shutting down its own ability to feel Spiritual Pressure. At the higher ends of this range that feat becomes more and more difficult.
300 or more above
Once you hit and exceed a gap of 300 in Spiritual Pressure a unique effect is achieved: the instant vaporization of anyone nearby. The gap alone crushes their soul and smothers it out of existence entirely. The greater the gap, the greater the range wherein individuals will be affected by this. No amount of numbing your senses to Spiritual Pressure can prevent this.
However, when the gap is only, or very close to, 300? Near physical contact is required. It is only as the gap grows past 300 Reiatsu that a range is built up.
This is the general guide that I use when writing with others. So if I run into someone that much more powerful than me, I know how to react.
Of course, as I mentioned, Spiritual Pressure is not always let out unrestrained. That means, even when you're in the 300 gap, as long as the more powerful party controls themselves they can prevent the death or unconsciousness of those around them.
However, when push comes to shove? They'll be subject to the full force of their soul.
A significant event wherein this rule of mine played a big role was the Incursion. In it, Alter Tova Diabló (at about 460 Reiatsu) visited Karakura Town and laid waste to most of the population without firing a shot. His simple presence created a sphere, a range around him in which most regular humans (generally around 20 Reiatsu) would be vaporized. It was a good time!
Please, feel free to use this as a reference in your writing. Or not! I've had this for so long, and talked about it with so many people, that I felt as though it were about time to share it publicly.
