(OOC: Skip to the --- in the middle Souta, it'll make your life easier)
Progress and change often derived from anomalies. They could inspire scientists, fuel investigations and even destroy empires. It was an anomaly that sent Hadō instructor and third squad member Matsumoto Ryūsei investigating the underground crime scene. Robert harbored a great deal of respect for the man, his ambition, his drive, his intuition, all highly positive traits. Yet without them he would be alive today. To protect the secrets of his past, Robert had removed the problem that was Ryūsei forever, killing him during the investigation of gang activity and framing it on the gangs themselves. Still, that left him with two complications.
The first was simple; Ryūsei had both a wife and a newborn daughter. Not only could Robert afford to care for them easily, he felt it was his duty. They had lost their father and their husband as well as their source of income, but he'd ensure they got to stay in a nice neighborhood and live with comforts for the rest of their days. The second complication was his job; Hadō instructor at the academy. Robert didn't want anyone else to fill the role, as he saw it for the golden opportunity it was. It wasn't just a teaching position, it was an opportunity to observe and pick out the most gifted future Shinigami, to guide and mentor them and foster their trust and confidence in you from before they don the uniform. For a man like Robert that had a desire to foster as many people loyal to him as possible, this was an opportunity that he simply couldn't overlook.
Thankfully, acquiring the Hadō instructor position was as simple as applying for it, thanks to both his new promotion to the position of acting Lieutenant of the fourth division and his having beat Ryūsei in a public Hadō competition shortly before his untimely demise. He had held the position for three weeks now, and had spent a few hours every couple of days teaching advanced Hadō to students almost ready to graduate. Academy students often got to shadow Shinigami doing their jobs, both in Soul Society and on earth, as part of their transition into joining the Gotei proper. This both prepared them for the day to day lives they would soon be transitioning to and helped them determine what division they wished to apply to. While willing people outside the academy were often shadowed by students, teachers were expected to be shadowed, regardless of rank, so long as their work was not classified. Robert was no exception; he had to have at least six of his students shadow him to show them what it was like to be in the fourth division.
He had considered taking them around the labs, showing them day to day research, but then another thought crossed his mind. The fourth did a unique type of field work no other squad did. Since they had the responsibility of maintaining the Senkaimon network, any anomalies that interfered even slightly with forming a stable Senkaimon were the duty of the fourth squad to deal with, regardless of where or when they arrived. Typically anomalies were no big deal; some hollow or mortal with bizarre powers doing something they shouldn't or more commonly, simple disruption in the area caused by natural clashing of Kishi and Reishi in a spiritually dense environment. One such anomaly had occurred in the mortal settlement of Sydney in the nation of Australia. Typically, Australia was outside of the fourth divisions jurisdiction of the mortal world but an exception was made for disruptions with the Senkaimon network, and as such, it fell to Roberts squad. When the alert came in, Robert took the case up personally, and contacted the six students from his class he felt most worthy for an expedition: Viktor Moskvin, Temko Yasuhiro, Yunokawa Rieko, Kawakami Aneko, Katso Hitoshi and Enyo Hanabi. He sent each of them the same message: Meet in front of the Fourth division barracks in thirty minutes in uniform, ready to head to earth on a priority assignment.
Viktor Moskvin was a hot head. Bald and broad, he was a six foot four man packing muscle for weeks. When Robert had taken over from Ryūsei, Viktor had waited for him after class and challenged him to a blades only duel. Robert refused, and Viktor consequently had been aloof and disrespectful for the first week of his teaching the class. Eventually, Robert had enough of his attitude and took part in the duel that Viktor wanted. When he won, Viktor immediately transformed from hostile and disrespectful to a dutiful student, albeit one driven by a brash impulsiveness that would either get him killed or forge him into an unstoppable force. The mission they were going on had potential, however slight, to become violent and bloody, and Robert had invited Viktor to see how he would such a situation.
Temko Yasuhiro was an awkward soul. Bald, tall and dangerously thin, Yasuhiro was the second most gifted caster of hadō in Roberts class, yet had said all of ten words in the few weeks that Robert had been teaching. Robert was confident he'd join the third division one day and turn out to be one of their most gifted casters, at least after being given a century or so to practice. As for how he was as a person, however, Robert had absolutely no idea, and he never liked not knowing something. Robert had invited Yasuhiro in the hopes that the mission would get him to open up even a little bit.
Yunokawa Rieko was a fake. A tall, long haired blonde, Reiko had a file equally impressive as those of his best students, yet when Robert had assessed the merits of his new students her talents fell far below what his predecessor had been noting. He knew the file was faked, but he didn't know why. Was she having an affair with Ryūsei? Was she blackmailing him? Whatever the reason, it was a mystery. If she was manipulating affairs to improve her grades intentionally as opposed to simply screwing the man who wrote the file, then that would mean she was ambitious, and it was entirely possible that Hadō was simply her worst subject. Robert had invited Rieko to observe her further and learn if she had any actual talents.
Kawakami Aneko was an academic. Short brown hair and thick framed glasses on a five foot three figure, Aneko was the student who demonstrated the most potential to join the fourth division. She had good Hadō scores, but excellent scores in the sciences, a subject which she often brought up both with him and the other students. He was almost certain that one day she would be applying to his squad, and when she did he'd snatch her up personally to work under him. After all, he was always willing to accept a new mind, ready to be molded. Robert had invited Aneko simply to give her a taste of the type of field missions the fourth undergoes before she joined.
Katso Hitoshi was a bully. A five foot six stump with greasy black hair, Hitoshi was prone to getting into fist fights with other students. His file was almost exclusively incident reports covering fights and complaints from other students and staff. The fact that he hadn't been expelled yet was a miracle. He had decent grades in most subjects and was only slightly below average for Roberts class, hell, he might even have made for a good student if he wasn't a massive asshole to everyone around him. Disorderly, disrespectful and outright combative; the students hated him and so did he. Robert had invited Hitoshi because he knew any mission to earth had a chance of turning bloody, and if he was going to lose people, there was no way in hell he wasn't taking Hitoshi to die with them.
Enyo Hanabi was a prodigy. A short brunette with the lingering air of adolescence, she had skyrocketed straight to advanced classes In only two years subjects and was already about to graduate the academy. Apparently she had been trained by a member of the second division, though details regarding this were sparse at best; continuing the second divisions noble tradition of not telling anyone anything about any topic. She was an incredibly gifted student and inarguably the best in his class, albeit a bit stiff and by the book. Robert had invited Hanabi both because she deserved it simply for being the best, but also in the hopes that she might take an interest in some of the tasks the fourth division performs.

Robert arrived in front of the fourth division barracks five minutes late, not for his sake but for theirs. As a general rule, he hated people being late, but he had called people who weren't yet Shinigami into the Seireitei on incredibly short notice at 8:30pm on a Sunday; a five minute buffer time was the least he could do. He had spent the extra five minutes ensuring everything was in order with his outfit. His uniform was immaculate, his Lieutenants badge was even beginning to feel natural strapped to his bicep. The only real change in his appearance was his Zanpakutō. Typically, Jikan was kept as a cane sword, but today called for a change. He was leading an expedition of would-be Shinigami to the mortal realms, and while a cane sword wouldn't hurt the mission, a simple regular Zanpakutō worn in the belt would comfort the students more than their chaperone appearing unarmed. Because of this, Jikan had found his way to Roberts left hip, where he sat comfortably just like any other Zanpakutō would, complete with a regular black sheath. It still kept its pistol grip handle, however, one last vestige of its temporarily discarded cane form.
When he approached the front of the barracks, Robert was pleased to find all six of the students ready and accounted for. There were small errors, minor issues with the uniforms and the like, but he ignored them. Now was not the time for such things, they had done well on such short notice. "Let's get the explanation out of the way now. We are going to earth, the specific nature of the mission I will explain as we walk to the Senkaimon and any questions you have regarding it can be covered once we arrive. This is not expected to be a dangerous task but any expedition outside of the Seireitei has its risks. As such, let me make one thing very clear; if I give you an order you will follow it. If you do not follow it, you need not fear the enemy, because I will kill you myself. This goes double if that order is issued during combat."
The walk that separated the fourth barracks from the Senkaimon was a short one, during which Robert explained the specifics of the task at hand as simply as he could. All they had to do was go to earth and identify what is causing the interference with the formation of stable Senkaimon in Sydney, Australia. There were two likely sources of this interference; either a hollow or spiritually active mortal whose powers are causing a complication of some kind or natural phenomena regarding the clash of Kishi and Reishi, a common occurrence in spiritually rich populated areas. The fourth dealt with these issues once or twice a month and they were almost always nothing. Before they knew it, the explanation had ceased and the group had stepped into the Senkaimon.
The Senkaimon gate opened on top of the waters outside Sydney. Specifically, the group came out a literal stones throw away from the Sydney Opera House. He had to admit; it was a beautiful sight. The white fins were illuminated by colored lights, giving the building a slight blue tint. The reports from the Senkaimon Network Operations had said the disruption would be in a highly populated location within approximately 200 feet of where their Senkaimon formed. Robert only saw one building that matched that description; the beautiful blue tinted Opera House. It was built to hold large audiences, and the only other thing around them was water and a few boats, so either the Australians had taken to living under the sea or that was their destination.
"Right, any questions before we stroll into the Opera House?"
