"Use it as a talisman, perhaps? Your power may come from outside of you, not from within or from the pendant, but that doesn't mean you have to leave it behind or that it loses value." She correctly assumed the look on the girl's face was from having some sort of belief that the family heirloom was the source of power-- not her own abilities.
Sekai slipped her hand past the folded collar of her kimono to the slender silver chain lying hidden against her skin. Pulled it free to reveal a simple platinum band with visible patina dangling from the chain she offered for the young teen's viewing. "This is my most treasured possession other than the memories I have." She shared with a soft smile. Sadness and grief gave scarlet eyes a too bright sheen for a moment, pierced through the fondness and love so readily in her gaze as she watched the ring shift and spin on the links. "I keep it with me, always, to remind me of the promise I made."
Watched her collect and gather reishi. Practice meant refinement; and refinement meant she would learn more and more and eventually master her own unique art. It'd give her something to focus on and, honestly, would help her both grow and relax all at the same time. Feeling helpless, weak, and insignificant were the worst, and having something, even a little thing, to do was better than nothing.
Her brow knit together, her expression filled with understanding and surprise simultaneously. "My sincerest apologies and regards to your mother's untimely passing." Another bow, her expression reflecting sorrow on Freyleif's behalf. She averted her eyes, allowed the girl the time to refrain from emotional display while wanting to just... reach out and pat her head and tell her she'd done her best so far without proper guidance.
Emotion rose, sharp and biting. Memories flashed through the girl's face-- oh to be a teenager and full of roaring, raging hormones and mood swings that made one feel as if they were losing their very mind. Her small spiritual pressure flared, frustrated and furious at herself, at the world. That wary look was enough to break her heart several times over. The clenched fists. The struggle to be seen as an adult in a world that cared little enough about the individual until it somehow magically 'mattered' versus needing the comfort of someone else.
She reached out, caught the-- slightly taller girl, gods be damned even this child was taller than she was-- Westerner by the shoulder. Drew her close for a quick, fierce hug."It sounds as if your mother treasured you very much and would be greatly saddened if you were to cast away the life she brought into this world and wished to protect." Sekai murmured softly into the blonde's ear. Gave her another gentle squeeze. "That cross and memories may be all you believe you have left of her-- but your very existence and the time you spend alive in this world are also a way of keeping her alive. She is part of you in a way no one can ever take away."
Her own contentious relationship with her mother brought back bitter memories. "It may be difficult to believe, Freyleif-san, but I sincerely believe she is watching over you and wishes you to pursue happiness rather than revenge." A wish that things had gone better between them, that their relationship had been able to be something more than the strained, discomforting thing it was now.
"You have done your best, alone as you have been."
