The Story
(threads should be in chronological order)
A Brother's Love [Complete] Marshal is attending a concert at a nearby city, when he senses another one of the 'monsters'. Mazeura winds up having been attracted by the music and stops Marshal due to his being spiritually aware. Marshal's forced to put on a brief facade to pass as 'normal' before the two can exit the building and converse freely. While his encounter with Evelynn had been for the best, Marshal knows not everyone who reads as a 'monster' is friendly and begins to question the Arrancar about his intentions. Mazeura knows enough to recognize Marshal's still inexperienced and begins to explain the process of how hollows evolve and what exactly they are. After he's finished explaining, Marshal asks a few questions that seem to make the arrancar think a little harder on some subjects.
An Introduction to Evil [Abandoned] Marshal finds himself laying awake in bed a few nights after the concert and his talk with Mazeura, still thinking over what was discussed. He's caught up in his thoughts about the loss of his sister, his grief still poisoning him even after he'd seen it taint his relationship with his mom. In the mirror he sees the broken person he's become and how much he's let himself go and realizes just how crushing the weight of his sorrow is. Jormungdr sees how malleable his spirit is, and begins to speak to him. He shows Marshal visions of Isis alive and whole. Marshal can't help himself, he reaches out to retrieve what he's lost and allows himself to be used by the Serpent, though something doesn't sit well with him and he tries to reason with the Serpent.
Fading Fast [Ongoing] Marshal's struggle with the Serpent leads him to venture outside the wall of his apartment building, where he runs into Hanbei. It's evident Marshal is slowly losing to the Serpent, but how long will his mortal mind last against a god? Even as he speaks to the shinigami, the Serpent slowly worms his way into every facet of his mortal host.
Serpent's Touch: Corruption of a Memory [Complete] Marshal is lead to Karakura town, a beacon to most spiritually aware people on Earth, by the Serpent. Isis, his loving sister died in a car accident and her ghost was consumed by a hollow. Marshal knows this, he'd seen the hollow eat his sister, and yet... he sees her still. A wavering figure, constructed from the memories he'd held onto, that stands yards away from him beckoning him closer pleading for his help only to flee further away as he approaches. He wanders the streets amid the chaos until he comes to a shop where he believes the clerk has his sister. Enraged, he begins to beat the clerk near death until the Serpent tells him a bystander has taken Isis away from the clerk and he turns on them instead. Jian intervenes and becomes the focus of Marshal's rage. In their fight, the Serpent unlocks Marshal's understanding of his fullbring and he uses it for the first time intentionally. The two continue in their slugfest, each receiving their fair share of injuries, until the police show up and they're forced to flee the scene. Marshal's body is weary from the fight, coupled with the after effects of his fullbring he passes out in an alley.
Missed Opportunity [Complete] Still exhausted, Marshal wakes up from his stupor and begins to wander about the city once again chasing the phantom of his sister. He's intercepted by Angeni, who's worried about his health. She asks him if she can tend to his wound, but the phantom still beckons and he makes a mad dash for her, only to stumble and fall to the ground due to his weakened state. The Serpent moved in his soul, fueling his anger and rage. The woman still asked to tend to his wounds, and the Serpent bid Marshal to attack. With his fullbring active, Marshal crashed into the woman only for her to siphon off his reshi leaving him further wounded and confused. After she moved him to the Vigilance tower, Angeni was able to preform surgery and properly tend to his wounds. Upon waking, Marshal thanked her but promptly requested to leave the building while he was still himself. After leaving, he felt the Serpent's call and memories began to surface. He remembered that he'd been given another power to further the Serpent's plan. After wandering into the woods, he utilized the new power and became an abomination befitting someone who served the Serpent. He began to shift and change until he knew he could make the journey that he was being called to.
Seal of Fire [Abandoned] Marshal arrives at the Seal of Fire, and finds himself among a group people who all seem to be driven toward the same goal as he is: destroying the damned seal. Flexing powers he'd been gifted by the Serpent, Marshal takes out part of a recon team sent by the Vigilance.
A Helping Hand [Complete] Adimus appears before Marshal to heal his broken soul. He succeeds in healing Marshal, but what's left behind is a shell of the man he once was. He refuses to deal with what he's done, refuses to recognize his mind as whole. As such, he moves on in a confused and delirious state to try and see what exactly had happened to the town. Memories are already beginning to surface before he can even uncover what had happened. Flashes of blood and bodies, chaos and havoc, flood his mind and it all becomes too much for him to handle. He leaves the town, unsure of where he's headed but knowing that any destination is better than the one he'd just left.
The Information
Marshal grew up seeing the spiritual world, and he'd often try to question people about the peculiar things he saw as most children do. He first asked his friends in school, the few he had, who then laughed at him. He then moved on to telling the teachers about the kids who wandered about with chains in their chests, which obviously alarmed them and prompted a call to his mother. Much as one would expect, his mother was quite alarmed and had him begin seeing a psychiatrist. This all happened when he was around 4-5 years old, and he's blocked a large majority of it from his memory.
After his sister's death, thanks to their strong bond he was able to see her ghost, and thus he began to see the spiritual world again. That happened ~2 years ago, and prior to his meeting with Evelynn he'd had limited exposure to anything related to the spiritual world. He has no idea what Quincy are, limited knowledge on Shinigami, and is still hesitant to trust any hollow. Even as far as other mortals (or variants, if you prefer) he knows he's not the only one, but he certainly has no idea just how many of them exist.
While under the Serpent's control, he's not entirely conscious of what he's doing and the effects it'll have on other people or even himself. He's doing everything for the sake of his sister, and will stop at nothing to see to it that the Serpent's goals are fulfilled so that he can get her back and reunite his family.
After the Serpent's influence is gone, and his mind is clear he's completely crushed by the weight of what he's done. He can't handle the atrocities that he's been a part of, the crimes he's committed, chaos he's caused, people he's killed. While he finds himself again broken, it's unlike the first time. This weight of guilt and grief is something he doesn't want to live with, he'd willingly done all of this for the sake of his sister. He'd thrown himself into something because he was weak and couldn't bear the loss, and he can't help but let this fester into a spiritual wound he isn't sure he wants to heal in fear he'll forget what he's done.
