WELCOME TO THE NEW BLEACH GOTEI
Welcome to our new software! I've got critical and non-critical information below.
What are some core things we need to know?
First, passwords are encrypted. Those couldn't be transferred.
Second, our new software uses a clean, low-level login system that won't corrupt as many accounts as IP.Board does. I've had to fix way too many of them here. What this means? No special characters like accented letters or spaces.
So if your user name was "Shun Minamoto"? Your login name is now "shunminamoto". Other special characters will end the username at that point, so "Robert Mühle" becomes "robertm".
If you can't figure out, we can look it up.
Use this username and the Forgot Password feature to reset your password when you first login. Again, you must do this in order to log in the first time because passwords were encrypted and could not be transferred.
Next, if you never changed your e-mail from the "Null.com" addresses from our move three years ago? Your e-mail address was forcibly changed to bleachgoteiuser+USERNAME@gmail.com
If you need access to that e-mail address, contact me and I will give you the password to access that g-mail account. You can use it to reset your password like everyone else needs to.
In my original post I made it clear that you had to make sure you had a valid, accessible e-mail address attached to your account. This is why.
What are some cool things we should know about?
Now that the annoying work is out of the way? The fun stuff.
We have a brand new chat solution on the way. When it's ready you'll see a new Chat tab in our navigation bar. That'll take you to the new software.
What's nice about this is it doesn't force integration. So you can do things like register your own chat account, apply a separate avatar to it, all of that. The chat also supports multiple rooms (not just one big lobby), unlimited private isntant-messaging, font colors, standard BBCode for bold, underline, italic, strikethroughs, and it also does commands again! So we have things like "/me eats pie" or "/ban Kyousuke" and such, along with more entertaining things like "/roll d6". It's a very functional chat software and I'm really enjoying it.
Once that's ready I'll let everyone know.
In the mean time we have a fully integrated, real-time Shoutbox at the bottom of the forum.
But wait, there's more! I'm already talking to a developer about getting a custom skin to replace our current default on the board (there's also another default on the board that you can switch to via your profile).
The board also does SSL encryption and has a security certificate now! Most of you don't care, but it's a neat little thing I thought I'd mention!
We're also going to be enabling full HTML board-wide very shortly, there appears to be a simple Javascript to enable that.
What if I want to give feedback, bad or good?
Feedback is always, always welcome! We have a lot of control here. Feel free to ask for any changes you'd like and, if it's possible, we can do that for you.
Change is hard and, trust me, getting all of this ready was probably even harder. But I think that Forums.Net is going to be a superior option for a lot of our users.
Well what's the hold up? What's the link to the board?
bleachgotei.forums.net
Around 6PM Eastern time I'll be switching bleach-gotei.com over to this new link. Our board will still exist, don't get me wrong, but our URL will point to the new board shortly after I make that switch happen.
Thanks again, everyone, and I hope you all like the new platform!
