be·gin·ner /bəˈɡinər/ noun: A person just starting to learn a skill or take part in an activity.
am·a·teur /ăm′ə-tûr′, -tər, -cho͝or′, -chər, -tyo͝or′/ noun: One who engages in an art, science, study, or athletic activity as a pastime rather than as a profession.
I'd say amateur sounds more like something someone already has some knowledge in would be called, judging by their definitions.
That compelling enough, or should I start working on a paper about the dichotomy between Beginner, Basic, and Amatuer and how each word brings a different context to the mind of the people who see it (which is in turn caused partially by their understanding of the word and their own experiences with it being used/using it in everyday life)?
Pretty sure I could whip up a compelling argument for either side in about... oh, three hours, give or take twenty minutes for coffee breaks.

Seems fine to me. Though it's weird to start out with traditional skill rank names then shift to generic "middle ground" words, then back to skill rank names. But that's just me being weird.

Intermediate and Advanced are definitely right words, which is why I wasn't serious in my suggestion. But there are definitely more traditionally used words in the field of RPGs that, in my head, fit better. Because, to me, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced can mean other things outside progression of skills. Whereas, things like Inept/Adept are pretty much only used in skill progression.
Like I said, just my brain being weird. Too much Skyrim/Fallout probably. Just changing Basic to Amateur is fine.

Only if we change your title to Faggimiya.
Anyway!
Basic to Amateur it is. We've got another thing we're working on that we'll roll that out with; but barring any other great revelations, this is what we're going with.
