She did her best to not rely on him too much. She just needed help up to her feet. She would be able to handle it from there. Oh, and she should probably get rid of the sand so that he wouldn’t have to shield himself. She’d caused the man enough damage already. Now was the time for healing, not fighting. A side effect of trying to keep him from using his arms to help her was that she had to grab at his shirt to steady herself and hobble over to her clothes. Of course, once they got to what was probably the only standing tree left within a quarter mile, she realized if she needed help standing, then getting dressed was going to be another matter altogether. Dew stood there, staring at her bag of clothes for a few minutes while she figured things out in her head. The tree, some small applications of her power, but first she had to get away from Jian.
“So is this the part where you valiantly offer to help me change into my good clothes?” She didn’t give him time to answer, instead lurching away from Jian and using the tree as her new crutch. “Turn off your sixth sense for a little while, would ya?” She swiped at the air in his direction and was…gone. Well, not totally. If he delayed in following her instructions, it was clear Dew was still there. The fact her bag seemed to drag itself around to the other side of the tree showed this too. Manipulator of light. It was only to be expected that she could become invisible, right? Invisible to the naked eye, but plain as day to the inner eye. Which is why she told him to close the damn thing!
She dressed as quickly as she could, which wasn’t very quickly at all. If only it had been a silent few minutes, rather than ones filled with hisses from leaning right on one of her burns, groans from forgetting her back was a massive bruise, or yelps from stepping off discarded clothing and onto the frozen ground once again. She remained invisible for several minutes beyond her changing while she huddled on the ground and called small balls of light to warm her up. She could deal with the pain, but the chill was making her as uncoordinated as uncoordinated as a child. “Alright, you can look now.”
She stood, and still took her time about it, and shuffled around to the side of the tree she’d left Jian at. Dew looked pretty normal, all things considered. And the surge of power of her second release was gone as well. At worst, she looked like someone who somehow managed to get a mild sunburn in the middle of winter. She almost leaned back against the tree again, but remembered what a horrible idea that was and did her best to stand with her arms crossed while she studied Jian’s injuries. “No.” Short and to the point. “I just said I’m not about to make it look like I’m helpless. In battle, or out. I can pay for my own lunch. If you want to pay for yours, you can. I would suggest allowing me to though. I mean, look at you? Can you even reach for your wallet without possibly making those breaks worse?”
Why hadn’t he regenerated them yet? He’d come back from blackened skin in a matter of moments. At best she could reduce the severity of her wounds by one. A broken bone should have been nothing for him to fix. “Actually, now that I think of it, I’m paying for your lunch too. If anything, you added to my training. I don’t get to fight anything smarter than a hollow all that often, so this was good for me. Unless you can fix those broken bones right now.” She’d made up her mind, and if the tiara she set on her head was any indication, she fully expected to get her way on this matter. She wasn’t getting bossy because she might have lost or anything. It was all because of the tiara. Speaking of accessories, she made sure to swap out her hair band for the one Takua made for her. They were about to go into town, and it wouldn’t do to have people dying all around them.
“If you still want to argue, we’ve got a fair bit of mountain and wilderness to get through without injuring ourselves. Convince me before we find a street if you really want to.”
