It's my worry that, much like our yearly secret Secret Santa event, the free stuff competition would be awash with disappointment because the people who volunteered and agreed to send something do not actually send anything.
If the options are: physical prizes with a high chance for said prizes not actually going out and no physical prizes and near guarantee that the remaining prizes WILL go out then I'm choosing the latter.
So far I haven't been convinced not to forgo physical prizes.

Granted there should be digital prizes still in place even with the addition of physical prizes. Not everyone is comfortable with giving an address away, of course.
The presence of digital prizes isn't in question, they're gonna be around regardless. The issue of people sticking to their word when it comes to physical prizes IS however. Should I limit volunteers to people who have proven to be good on their word in the past? I'm not sure how many people that would be, or how many of them would be interested in putting up prizes regularly, but that seems like a reasonable starting point.
