So, seeing as I'm a newer character/player who hasn't even done his first milestone yet, I feel like my opinion might matter on this.
Some of you have been here for literally years. When you say "just go with it", I think that you forget your character is well-established. At least, in your head, if nowhere else. That means you have a really good feeling for how they're going to react in any given situation, and it's second nature to write as them.
But some of us aren't quite there yet. In my case, this is the first incarnation of this character I'm using. I've been rping for a fair bit, but generally use the same couple characters tweaked to fit the site I'm on. This time it's different. I'm looking to start fresh, to experience things differently.
I'm big on game mechanics. I like a heavier stat and skill system than the ones you employ here. When I was first getting my app and powers figured out, it was a struggle because I was repeatedly told to treat it more like a story than a game. BUT. Everytime I tried to plan a plot or something, I was met with "just roll with it". You know who rolls with it? People playing a game. Well, pick one!
Rping is both a game, and a story. You're telling a story through the actions of your avatar in the game world. That's the simplest, most basic way I can describe this experience to anyone unfamiliar with the territory. But Albrecht said something that hit a little bell in my chest and rang through me.
" Do you just, open fifteen threads with strangers and meet their characters in an awkward exchange? ("Hi, I'm the new quincy/mod soul/shinigami/ect.") Do you just hope for the best? "
Apparently, yes. That's what I've been getting back everytime I tried to start something bigger than that. Just go with it.
Well...
Go with what?
