“You shook your head when I asked you your name,” Kionchi could only giggle as he scratched the back of his head. Maybe he was being too presumptuous, but you couldn’t blame him for trying.
“I thought I’d call you Kousetsu.” It felt so surreal naming someone capable of asking what their name means. Yet at the same time, the name itself was so fitting that it was hard for him to think of her as anyone else. “It means Falling Snow. It was the first thing that came to mind, and you looked so happy when you saw the snow…Of course if you don’t like it…”
Her pose shifted a bit. She wasn’t sure if she was uncomfortable with the situation, or if she was just surprised. The thought of her having another name never really crossed her mind since… Well, since she was a human in the world of the living. What use would she have with a name here though? Her eyes glanced around the ruins of Los Noches as she thought.
On one hand, maybe Kionchi was just being nice, it was possible that he felt some sort of sympathy for her and her situation. On the other hand, he looked at her as an animal, and thought he could name her as if she was some sort of pet. She wasn’t an animal though, was she? She flicked her tail and twitched her ears slightly as if they were normal everyday functions in a somewhat human body. The hole above her breast stayed present in her mind as well as she pondered the meaning of Kionchi’s action.
“Kousetsu?” It wasn’t a bad name, in fact it was a rather pretty name. The problem was whether or not she accepted the name. Implying that Kionchi either owned her, or had something over her head that he’d use to get her to do things later. It was an interesting predicament to say the least, but she couldn’t help but think about how being named seemed to be an appealing idea. She had never really had anyone care enough to give her a gift, let alone one as precious as a name of which she could call herself by. It also meant that if there was nothing menacing behind the action, that Kionchi might very well think of her as a friend. Or at least someone he puts on somewhat of an equal level.
A companion.
She nodded, and smiled wide as she made her decision.
His shoulder’s relaxed as soon as soon as he saw her smile. His nerves were soothed by the very sound of her name, her reaction putting his doubts to rest. He’d done the right thing. And now he’d be able to begin again. To prove to himself that he was destined for something greater, looking forward toward the future, rather than running from his past.
“You get distracted easily, don’t you?” He returned her smile and took a step toward the hole her rapier made in the ice. Maybe it was just too much for her to take all at once. “But maybe I was too indirect.”
She wanted so badly to get a hold of the powers she had so that she’d be able to control them instead of having them randomly shoot out from her body as they were at this moment. The winter around them had continued to thicken as they stood there stagnant, forms of land beginning to look crystaline as the ice shaved itself and shone clearly. The thin ice that coated the robe Kionchi had lent her made the article of clothing stiff and difficult to move in.
She looked back at Kionchi, pondering for only a moment before nodding once more and offering her own hand to the Shinigami.
There was no need for words between them, the cold aura pulsing from her body taking on a completely different feeling. There was no shame in desire, the need for power to actualize your dreams. On the contrary, it was the most beautiful and natural thing in the world. And once you were able to tap into that font, to give someone else that power they needed, all you had to do was keep your eyes open to see the splendor manifest.
He took her hand and smiled, his own aura crawling across her arm as he lifted his other hand into the air. With a snap of his finger, the world went silent. A crack appeared in space between them, slowly opening like a mouth in the form of a Garganta. The warm air in the other room quickly passed over their bodies, the dimly lit office on the other end something of a let-down even for its owner. A couch. A coffee table. A desk. A chair. There wasn’t even a computer yet, and the window was covered by a set of cheap mini-blinds. It wasn’t much, but it was the closest thing he had to a real home. His own private sanctuary in downtown Karakura, meticulously sealed and warded by his own Bakudo.
He looked towards her and nodded, taking a step into the portal, away from that ruined castle. Away from those dead ashes, into a jeweled vision of life anew.
