[ ON THE SURFACE ]
Physical Description: Saya carries herself like any proper, young lady should. Chin held high, shoulders back, and hands held in front of her. Every step she takes comes with confidence and sway any woman confident in their body should have, allowing her to easily match the definition of ‘sashaying’ to and fro when making her way down town. Topping it all off, she almost always wears a pleasant smile that never quite reaches her eyes, but is polite enough to make people feel welcomed when talking to her. Granted, she often replies in curt statements meant to end the conversation as quickly as possible. But, her soft tone and inviting posture often lead people into thinking she’s just playing hard to get.
Dense, curly, chestnut colored hair falls from Saya’s head in a cascading mess of loose curls and tangling split ends. Though the fluffy, slightly curled bangs that frame her doe-eyes give the appearance of a soft, light texture, her hair often feels coarse or rough. No doubt this is from many half-hearted attempts to cut her hair with improper tools while living in the Rukongai. Nowadays, though the split ends frazzle out in every direction around her hips, the top of her head has a healthy shine and even seems to take on a slightly darker shade of brown, as if she had once dyed her hair something closer to blonde, but the color faded.
Her body tells a similar tale. Though her not-quite-ample, not-quite-modest chest and similarly defined rump speak of someone who’s in the prime of their health, her creamy skin gives off a glow of malnourishment that speaks of the rougher days she has yet to recover from. However, a noticeable layer of muscles have begun to add more meat to her bones. Despite her steps towards a healthier life she still seems like a late-autumn leaf desperately clinging to a tree.
Despite her past, her otherwise healthy, young body is free of blemishes and scars. A smearing of freckles across her high cheekbones and nose can be seen in the right lighting, but otherwise remains hidden. No scars or unsightly markings decorate any part of her body other than her left wrist. A nasty, deeply tanned burn mark wraps around it in the vague shape of a hand. It’s safe to assume that, given her line of work, it came from a particular violent client that she has yet to get over.
When it comes to attire, Saya wears what is expected of her. On duty, she wears the fresh-out-of-the-factory Shihakushō with no piece of fabric folded the wrong way and no signs of dirt or wear. Off duty she often wears decidedly feminine clothing of Japanese or Chinese style, each having a wide selection in her closet.
Saya particularly favors those dresses in softer shades of color, ranging from soft pinks to darker blues. All of the pastel colors are almost always complimented with white, or darkly colored patterns ranging from floral to more abstract lines and swirls. When dressing up for special occasions, she often wears her hair up with a bow that provides a splash of highly saturated color. She insists it brings out her eyes.
Nitta Minami (Idolmaster), Shimura Uzuki (Idolmaster), Minami Kotori (Love Live)
Spiritual Description: An eery red and black glow burns from behind Saya, as if there’s a colored spotlight shining behind her. Though never far reaching, the sense of uneasiness pours from her body like water and seeps into the ground around her. Those nearby often express a cold chill running up their spine, as if someone had grabbed them by the ankles and attempted to pull them underground. While the colors and shape of her Reiatsu remain unimpressive, it tends to leave a lingering mark on those who feel the full extent of it.
Thankfully, the young recruit seems to have natural talent when it comes to controlling her own Reiatsu, so very few actually get that decisive feel of her true nature. Instead, the diluted version of her Reiatsu comes in the form of an otherwise unimpressive mist that hovers around her body. With it certainly comes that ominous wind, but it’s often toned down so much that only the acute begin to feel the aforementioned effects. Most people simply get a strange feeling in their gut that’s hard to identify.
[ BEHIND THE EYES ]
Personality Overview: Although plagued by her past, Saya is a very friendly, forward thinking individual. A polite smile always rests on her face, though never reaches her eyes, and she carries herself with the dignity and grace any proper woman should. More importantly, she uses her manners as if they were her religion. Do not speak unless spoken to, follow orders without asking questions, and always say ‘thank you’. All in all, Saya is a very “Yes, Ma’am” sort of person whose intentions never quite seem to be clear.
Motivators and Reasonings: At her core, Saya is a troubled young lady who carries her past on her shoulders. Though she almost aggressively insists she’s not dwelling in her bad memories, her surprisingly short fuse and sarcastic niceness almost always betray her words.
On the surface, she truly believes she has moved on and that her acceptance into the Second Division is a new chapter in her life. But below those lies is something darker that twists her actions and words into something more… violent. At every turn she looks for an excuse to target weakness in the people around her and she’s the definition of someone who takes a mile when you give an inch. While she would never openly disobey anyone and certainly does everything as best as she thinks she can, it doesn’t take long for most people to peel away the facade and see an angry, brutal woman who wants to lash out at the world in pain and frustration.
Breaking it Down: As listed above, Saya’s personality can be boiled down into six main ideas: the pursuit of happiness, the submissive facade, the hard working drive, the fear of harm, the hatred of humanity, and finally the unrelenting pursuit of justice.
The pursuit of happiness is rather straightforward. After suffering so long and finally been given hope to grow and foster, Saya surrounds herself with things she adors. Be it friends, family, or even material items, she refuses to go for a moment without something that at least makes an attempt to lift her mood. For this reason, she’s very quick to latch onto new friends and do everything in her power to get them to like her. This often comes in the form of her shifting her personality into something she thinks they would like best.
Her submissive facade, however, is a bit more complex. Trained to always be nice, always be polite, and to respect others, Saya can often come off as robotic, or someone going through the motions to get something done. While this does secure her a nice standing within the Second Division -- who doesn’t want a soldier who will do whatever you want at the drop of a hat? -- it doesn’t necessarily lend her to be someone you can inherently rely on. She highly values the chain of authority and refuses to step on any laws or rules, even if that means stabbing someone in the back.
This ties into her ambition. She tirelessly works hard to improve herself and mold her abilities into what is most useful for the team. She’ll go to the ends of the earth to find someone she was tasked with tracking down. She will work day and night until a report is finished and polished three times over. While this can lead her to having slower results than desired, she certainly gets the job done right.
Now we get into the darker sides of the young woman. Much like anyone who goes through years and years of abuse, she absolutely fears punishment of any sort. With a brain conditioned to think failure means a beating, it’s no wonder why she instantly gets teary eyed when she’s failed a project, not lived up to someone’s expectations, or otherwise doesn’t succeed in what she had went out to accomplish. This can make her seem incredibly emotionally frail -- almost to the point of being out right bi-polar. She can instantly go from a smiling, charming company to a sniffling little girl afraid you’re going to punch her in the face. Naturally, this makes her less inclined to partake in combat of any sort.
This more than obvious fuels her hatred for humanity as a whole. While she does have some positive experiences in her life and, recently, has been giving more opportunities than ever before, she can’t help but be lost in her traumatic past. This colors her perception of reality, often warping otherwise nice people into monsters and criminals who deserve to be beaten to death or locked away with no food or water. This aspect of her personality is almost always hidden under a few layers of that “Yes, Ma’am” facade, but anyone who spends enough time with her would surely notice just how gruesome she can be when talking about the scum of the world and her little tolerance for anyone disobeying rules.
Finally, we get into the main driving force of Saya: her lust for justice. If there had actually been laws enforced in her homeland, her tragedy never would have existed. It was because people were so lax and let things get bad that people like her suffered for decades -- maybe even centuries! This train of thought burns into everything she does. From her respect and diligence to her intolerance towards hoodlums, she is a woman of the law and may the gods help you if she finds out you have even the tiniest speck of a record on file.
Goals & Achievements: Reduce crime rates within the Rukongai and establish regular military patrols in the further districts
[ GUARDIAN ANGEL ]
Zanpakutō Spirit: Young and full of dreams, Aiko can be viewed as what Saya was before her life took a turn for the worse. Happy and full of life, the childish Zanpakutou spirit radiates positivity and good fortune, as if she was the embodiment of the waving cat. Even in the darkest of times, Aiko finds something to smile about and constantly lifts Saya’s spirits with just a few choice words.
Visually, Aiko looks like what you would expect of someone having a personality of a hopeful kid. Thick, blonde hair is often blowing in the breeze, or getting tangled up with itself as she grins with large, green eyes. In terms of physical qualities, she’s rather average with an appropriate amount of scuff marks on her hands and knees from being a little too rambunctious and her skin has a healthy tan on it from many days out in the sun.
Aiko represents the part of Saya that has moved on and come to love her new life in the Seireitei. The free spirit that has been caged up since she was a child is now finally set loose and it manifests in the ever happy Aiko.

Inner World: Saya’s inner world is nothing more than a ransacked house. Doors busted in, furniture and walls broken and scuffed to prove the long fight that had taken place there. A thin layer of dusts covers everything and lingers in the air, as shown by the bright rays of sunlight that peek through broken glass and lights up the area.
This house, a reflection of her memory back home with her family, is really only just a room. The main room with the remnants of a couch and table. The connecting hallways are all blocked off by debris that refuses to budge when touched. Even the front door seems to be latched shut, though Aiko can come and go freely.
Power: Every area that is struck by Saya’s fists goes completely numb. (Expanded on further in second post)
Zanpakutō: Aiko’s seal form comes in the shape of a pair of unimpressive gloves. The black leather gloves are always worn by Saya and look more like the sort of thing you would wear alongside a dress rather than use in combat.
When released, her gloves gain studded, steel knuckles. Additionally, the gloves become a much lighter shade of grey as opposed to the pitch black of the sealed form. .
[ LEGACY CREATED ]
Origin: Saya, born under the name of Akari, was introduced to the harsher realities of life from a very early age. Both of her parents lived it utter poverty in the wasteland that was the 43rd district of the Rukongai. Though clusters of houses formed small villages of sorts, it was more of a circle of people looking for warmth in the night. None strong enough to support themselves, none compassionate enough to help those around them.
Despite this, Saya’s parents were loving and did their best to ensure their little glimmer of light smile each and every day. Perhaps overly doting, they sheltered her from the more brutal things in life, such as the fighting and unspeakable acts that happened in the night. What little luxuries they had often went towards their growing child, even as she entered her early teens. The light of their lives, both Saya and her parents flourished in happiness even if their circumstances were nothing to be envied.
Somewhere between Saya’s 14th and 15th year a traveling band of raiders stormed the small collection of shacks that Saya’s family called home. They burned homes, slaughtered adults, and had their way with the women. Saya, among a small collection of other young girls, was captured and thrown onto the caravan. Without home or the family she loved so much, the girl was stunned into constant grief. She cried and cried and fought and fought, always proving to be the most troublesome of all the product the raiders had collected.
Protests were met with lashes, crying echoed by tears of pain. Though it took her longer than the rest, soon her spirit broke and she settled into the new life she was given. With that came the training phase, most of which encompassed her learning manners and the tricks of the trade of some of the more common trades.
One by one the remaining familiar faces around Saya were sold off to the highest bidder. If she was lucky, they would return, though they were never the same. In the maturing girl’s eyes, they might as well have been dead the moment they were sold. In that realization she grew the resolve to overcome. To keep the light in her eyes and refuse to let anyone break her the way everyone else had been broken.
The first time she was sold was, thankfully, to just be a bar maiden. Not necessarily in charge of handing out drinks, but more about being eye candy for well-paying patrons. Though humiliating, she excelled in the face of the tragedy and soon gained the attention of other people. From that point on, she was torn between professions. One year she was a waitress, the next a comfort woman, the next a laborer. Anything and everything became her career, giving her a wide variety of skills at her disposal.
At one point or another, however, she lost herself. In her bull-headed, stubborn attempts to overcome her circumstances, Saya eventually succumbed to the unstoppable march of time and her never-changing circumstances. This was her life.
Rise to Power: It wasn’t until the day her luck changed that Saya broke herself from the rut she had fallen into. Whatever the reasons were, a Shinigami had happened to cross the paths of the caravan. Though usually far more aware of their surroundings, the two men found themselves behind schedule and with a loose wheel. Stupidity and desperation made them stop to try and fix it, but because of that the oh so friendly Shinigami approached and offered a helping hand.
And when that Shinigami found out just what was going on, both of the traffickers hit the floor like a sack of unwanted, rotten potatoes. In a fit of anger, the Shinigami cut Saya free and demanded to know where she was being taken. His intentions were more than obvious and, so, she happily complied.
After leading the Shinigami to the wealthy man in the 20th District of West Rukongai, he executed the man and destroyed any records her ties to the human trafficking system that they could find. The rest of the evidence was gathered up and submitted to the Seireitei, allowing the powers that be to dismantle the rest of it.
Inspired by this new ray of hope, Saya clung to his side all the way to the Seireitei where, after showing she had long since developed some natural spiritual pressure, insisted that she belonged there. Though, they both knew it would be a while before she was strong enough to fend for herself.
So, Saya lived with that Shinigami for a short while, gathering her strength and learning the basic skills she was never given, like reading and writing. Only once he started to get annoyed by her insistent pleas did they both start to consider her joining the Academy.
Call to Action: The Shinigami soon approached the head of the Academy and asked for Saya’s training to be accelerated in favor of getting her out onto the field. After all, someone like her was more than experienced enough in the field she so desperately wanted to go into. It took a while of convincing, but eventually the head of the Academy agreed.
And so, Saya was put on the fundamental classes. Her basic reading, writing, and math skills were brought up to par and she began drowning herself in her studies. She latched onto the combat related aspects of her training, excelling surprisingly in Hakuda and Reiatsu Perception. Though her studies in the spiritual arts were only average at best, she hit the ground running with her go-getter attitude and endless drive.
With the vision of joining the Second and really crack down on crime, Saya needed no more motivation to get through the classes. Though finishing her accelerated courses, she often frequents the Second on the claims of being an intern, trying her best to weasel her way into an unseated position prematurely.
