Cringing a bit under the weight of her Zanpakutō spirit's sense of humor, she had to admit Houwang had every right to be amused. It was all just a bit too ironic not to elicit his laughter. The moment she broke away from her obsessive pursuit to engage upon this new research project, a monumental step in the right direction, she runs into Moriya and utterly blanks on her new objective.
Taking a seat and time to compose her thoughts seemed to help some, though it was just another instance she could point to where she had grown much too lax over the years. It was a little surreal, though, walking into the room and find such clear cut options for either pathway to follow. Here was her brother and a chance to either sink back into those same old arguments that had led to their parting, or she could attempt to bridge that gap and move forward. While on the other hand, not one but two of the people she would have to deal with on her new research project; the Captain Commander, whom Rania said she would have to report to directly, and one Shinsei Madarame.
So distracted by her brother's Reiatsu had she been that she had failed to realize that this was the very man to whom the Captain of the Fourth had assigned the same research venture. Informed that they could either team up or consider each other rivals, she now brought her hand to her bottom lip smoothing at it with her forefinger in thought.
"This cookie muncher was a serious researcher?", she blinked as she tried to reconcile the vision of cookie crumbs trailing down his uniform to the meticulous nature such research demanded. "Maybe Rania is punishing me for nearly beaning her head with a flying coffee cup", the notion was lame at best and she considered that more evaluation of his skills would be in order before she dismissed any possible contribution he could make based solely upon his table manners.
The thought of approaching the Captain Commander never entered her mind. She was not of a solicitous nature, professional currying of favors had never been in her skill set nor did she have anything pertinent to report concerning this new project. Clearly the woman had important matters to discuss over with that officer from the First.
Sighing heavily, she pushed up from her desk and made her way across the room to where Shinsei was seated with another man who was quite unknown to her. As much could be said for literally everyone there other than Moriya, and truth be told how much did she even know about him anymore? Falling back upon her field guide to Gigai use, in particular the socialization section on blending in, she figured it would work just as well in this setting as not.
The ice breaker: alleviate tensions when meeting people for the first time by proposing humorous games that reveal insights into the character of those around you.
The thought made her cringe inside for she was certainly not the 'team leader' sort at all. Even so, maybe it wouldn't be so hateful to attempt some sort of greeting on the smaller scale. Besides, might her brother think she was trying to usurp his role here if she attempted to engage the entire group in some social interaction of that nature? The idea was laughable at best.
She moved across the room, stopping at the refreshment table to pour herself a cup of tea before proceeding to the two Shinigami in question. Closer now, she could see the name upon the tag of the mystery man read Li Yingfeng, but it didn't ring any bells upon the division rosters she had read. She merely nodded to the man by way of greeting, and turned her focus to Shinsei to say, "I hope I am not intruding, but it just occurred to me that we may have cause for collaboration soon." She didn't wish to breach any confidentiality concerning the nature of that joint effort and hoped he would be as circumspect. Depending on his reply she would know just a little more about the man's viability as a partner or a rival. It was at that moment that she caught the movement of Moriya from the corner of her eye. Pivoting on her feet, she could see that he was about to begin the meeting for he was needlessly straightening a stack of papers upon the desk.
It was odd to her that even after this amount of time she could read some of his little tells. Quietly she said to Shinsei,"Perhaps we should arrange a meeting for the near future?", she suggested before raising her cup to her lips to sample the hot tea and listen to her brother’s opening remarks. As he introduced himself, laying out the projected time schedule for the meeting, she became increasingly aware that she was causing him as much discomfort as he did in return. This is why the instant he called for people to make their introductions and state what school of Kidō their interests lay, that she spoke up immediately. The move would certainly draw the attention of the entire room to herself, something she was not in the habit of doing. As much as she preferred to be out of the spotlight, if she could manage to inform Moriya that she would not be creating a scene, then it was best to get it over with from the onset.
Drawing her cup away from her lips she cleared her throat and smiled. “If I may, start us off?”, she said without intending to wait to see if that was permissible, then went right ahead with her meager introduction. “I am Kohara Zâbel, researcher from Fourth Division. My main focus lies in Kaidō with a secondary in Bakudō”, she announced even remembering to scan the assembly as she spoke. Didn’t the Gigai handbook say that eye contact was crucial to blending in? As gracefully as possible she sank into the nearest empty seat rather than draw further attention to herself by walking clear back across the room to her former location.
