At first she had considered to text the stranger, but soon figured that calling him would be the more polite thing to do. Not that she was excited about potentially having to try to speak Japanese. Hopefully the man would know some English, because Sasha’s German vocabulary only contained a string of basic words ranging from ‘tschüss’ to ‘Schwein’. She doubted that their conversation would progress well, if at all, should she try to call him something between a pig and a swine.
“Worst case I’ll act as if I got the wrong number..” she muttered to herself before leaning forward to put down the cup of hot cacao. The liquid dangerously leaped and Sasha pouted to nobody in particular while trying not to spill. It was her lucky day, no cacao landed on the spread out papers that occupied the table. A shaky breath escaped her – she didn’t hide her relief. Perhaps this was a sign to pick up the phone instead of procrastinating.
“Good morning,” she started out before mentally slapping herself. 11 am was probably closer to noon, but Sasha had never been a morning person. “this is Alexandra Ryurik speaking,” welp, there went the ‘stay anonymous until you’re certain it’s not a mistake’ thing. “I got your number from a friend,” Mentioning Amelia right away might be dumb, but she was already on that road. So… “Amelia. She’s said that you’re from Europe as well, and tend to hang around Tokiyo now and then?”
Awkwardly leaning back in her seat she watched the passers-by hurrying through the street. Some had an umbrella, others were using a hood or a newspaper to cover their heads from the rain. It was a grey day. Many haircuts would get ruined today.
“I was wondering if you would want to meet up.” While not wanting to sound too hopeful she did try to express enough interest to get his attention. It’s why the tone of her voice was light, and slightly warmer than usual. An unmistakable smile worked itself into the phrase; she sounded quite cheerful.
Little drops ran down the window as if fleeing from the freshly arrived sun rays. The door behind her creaked before falling into place with a thud when a couple walked out of the tea bar. Somewhere on the other side of the road a driver showed his annoyance by violently hammering on the car horn. The place appeared to be coming alive. Now she was being surrounded by move voices, more smiles, and the same amount of hurry.
“So, what do you say?”
