Yuuta couldn't help but grin as he saw Yui under him and started to throw him him. The world was moving around him but he didn't mind and he wasn't at all phased because it was a sensation he was quite familiar with. He solidified the spirit particles in the air around his feet to stop the throw as he stabilised his entire body as he was upside down. He didn't waste a moment as he moved into his counter attack, he bent his legs and kicked off towards Yui to try and hook his arms around her torso as his momentum would hopefully carry them to the ground.
If he did manage to take Yui to the ground, he'd try to pin her right arm to the ground as in the same movement he'd try to slam down a right elbow towards Yui's chin. Should his tackle of sorts not work and he wasn't countered, he'd land on all fours and kick off with his full force as he stayed very close to the ground. He'd plant his hands on the floor and flick his body around for a two footed kick to Yui's legs, before contorting his body upwards for another two footed kick towards Yui's chin; his entire body perfectly straight as he was kicking up.
Yuuta was really quite relaxed in his movements, but a wild grin was starting to show on his face. He loved the rush of battle, especially when it was challenging. It was in battle where he felt the most comfortable and at home, a fact that surprises many when they see his personality. Post Words:272 Total Words: 3705

It really was too bad that in this position, Yui couldn’t see Yuuta’s face. If she had, she could have seen the grin, the relaxed nature of his expression, and that could have been a warning that she was doing something that played into his hands. She did, however, feel that there was resistance as she followed through with the motion, and it took a split moment to realize what was happening… and that split moment of confusion had cost her as he drove himself down into her. He felt his arm wrapping around her torso, and instinctively twisted in an attempt to keep him from locking into the hold and to allow herself a chance to get free, but she was already on her way to the ground. She felt him slam her right arm to the ground, but managed to avoid the elbow by crunching her head down and tilting to the side, using her left arm to try to shrimp out of the hold and away from him.
She knew it was a vain hope that he had hurt his elbow when he had hit the ground, but there was that off chance that he had smashed his funny bone, which would be hilarious later. But he simply had the superior hold over her, a dominant position, and one of her arms pinned… but Yui was nothing if not persistent. She struck towards his neck with her own elbow, a joint and possible weak point, hopefully the reiatsu armor would be thinner there as well. Her legs were active as well, wrapping around his torso and attempting to toss him aside and free her from his hold, but if he used his real strength, she was screwed.
That was always a factor that lingered in the back of her mind as she gritted her teeth, continuing to fight back. If he wanted to, he could have won this fight a long time ago… a simple usage of tanking a strike from her and using that opening to deliver a single blow that would likely make her crumple like a rag doll. Fate was sure cruel, throwing her against someone who showed her just how weak she truly was. Post Word Count: 371 Thread Word Count: 5613

The follow through from the elbow didn't actually hurt Yuuta much, he still wasn't using much of his force and he was durable enough to pound away at rock for hours without being too bothered by it. Yuuta used his free hand to cup Yui's elbow, bracing it before stopping it before it hit his target, he was conscious not to injure Yui's arm by stopping it too hard. As he was blocking he'd try to grip her forearm to try and keep that under control.
Yui's legs didn't go unnoticed either, despite Yuuta's instincts telling him he could easily hold his ground he refused to put up more than equal resistance against Yui. His arms were tied up and it was quite hard to maintain his balance whilst sticking to the condition he'd set upon himself, it left him with but one option. An option he swiftly set into action. His head shot forwards towards Yui's own, aiming for a clean headbutt. It'd just be a single strike, he didn't want to do more of those than he had to. It wasn't because he was hurting himself because he barely noticed it, but because he didn't want to hurt Yui much, even if he was holding back headbutts weren't nice to take. Now he thought about it, he'd actually never headbutted anybody before so he was guessing. He figured it'd be interesting to see how effective it would be, and a controlled environment was the perfect place to do so. Post Words:251 Total Words: 3956

He now had control of bother her arms and she was struggling to gain some form of control and get herself out of a bad situation, now using her legs as best she could to twist out, but he was holding her firm. She needed to get out of the situation before he made a move that would pin her entirely, and then this match would be over completely and she would have lost. Against a freaking recruit at the Academy no less. This was nothing if not completely embarrassing that she was having this much trouble, let alone struggling to keep him from winning and completely on the defensive!
She saw it too late, and his skull connected cleanly with hers, and unlike him, she had no protection and that made it the equivalent of being hit with the guys helmet. Lights danced and her vision blurred, her muscles completely slackening as her eyes wandered aimlessly for a moment, losing all coherent thought. It was quite obvious that she had a concussion, his superior strength and armor making her unable to avoid the damage that had hit her in a critical area. Yui relied almost entirely on her ability to dodge and superior speed in fights, but this guy was on par with her speed and had vastly superior defense and strength, making it very one sided in a match of pure Hakuda. His skill was as good if not better than her own as well, and that made things extremely difficult for the little ninja.
It took a couple of seconds for her mind to gather itself, and even then, it was hazy at best. She tried to reach for her head, which was pounding with her heartbeat in pain and she winced. “The hell? I lost?” she asked, mostly to herself, attempting to sit up. Yuuta recognised the signs, the body going somewhat limp and the eyes losing focus on the surrounded. He'd over done it and he silently cursed himself for not holding back more, concussion wasn't nice to have and it was a killer the next morning when you were trying to get up with stuff to do. Yuuta probably knew concussion better than most people his own age, the only reason he didn't have long term damage was because he was a spirit so healed better than humans did, plus regular kaidō. He pulled himself off Yui and folded his legs under him to sit next to her.
Speaking of kaidō, he focused on his hand and stared as he heard Yui ask if she lost, he ignored the question briefly "Soushuji" he said softly. Green energy sprouted to life in his hands and rested them atop of Yui's head. He did feel guilty, but he internalised any negative emotion so Yui didn't pick up on it "Sorry about that, I forgot about the reinforced skin thing for a minute and didn't hold back more. I'm not too good at kaidō but it should take some of the pain away I hope" he couldn't help but lightly ruffle the top of Yui's head a little as he was applying what little help he could.
She did seem down though, and Yuuta felt obliged to try and cheer her up after she'd helped so much "You did great though, I've never known anybody except Mako dodge so many of my strikes so smoothly. The way you move too is really smooth, my gut tells me you've got the potential to be super strong too" his gut had a habit about being right about these things too, he wasn't sure why but it was like a far more crude version's of Mako's ESP thing that he didn't really understand. Yui slowly sat up, trying to clear her head and putting a hand on the side of it. She had been the victim of concussions dozens of times, and she knew this one was going to bring the mother of all migraines in a few minutes. The thought made her groan slightly in exasperation, and she heard the word of Kidou, or more specifically, Kaido, Soushuji, and while she didn’t turn her head, her eyes did turn and look to see that familiar green glow reaching towards her, and she felt the soothing sensation of the kidou apply to her pain. Already it slowly was starting to ease, and one nice thing about having such little reiatsu, it was amazingly easy to recover and heal when she was beaten down, which she had plenty of experience with. She gave a smile that was pained, but not just because her head was throbbing with it’s own personal heartbeat. “Better than me… I can’t perform Kidou at all. I use herbs and such to handle healing.” That admission had hurt more than she cared to admit, but she was careful not to show it.
His words of comfort made her let loose a small burst of air from her nose like she wanted to laugh. “My form was sloppy in places, and between your skin being made of armor and the fact that you were holding back at least three quarters of your strength means that had this been a real match of Hakuda, you would have turned me into a pretzel in seconds.” It was her honest assessment, and she knew that factually it was pretty close to accurate, even if her guesses might have been slightly off. “I have been training like my life depended on it for hundreds of years, and I was surpassed by an Academy student. Still, if it had to happen, at least it was you, Yuuta. You at least aren’t like some of the others.” Her mind flashed to the days she was jumped and beaten for talking out of line or trying to challenge people in order to test her skill, being told she was worthless and beaten until she was sent to the Aid Station to be patched up, just to start it all over again. Yuuta smiled at Yui as she mentioned the use of herbs to heal “That’s awesome though, I can’t use herbs or anything so between us we could be a great doctor” he was trying to cheer Yui up but it was true in his eyes. The use of herbs was good for when you couldn’t use kaido because you were too drained, or because you wanted to use it on yourself. Other than that, traditional medicine was kinda cool in Yuuta’s book. He laughed awkwardly as Yui mentioned about her technique being a bit sloppy, he had noticed but overall it was still very good and he didn’t want to focus on it. He also didn’t’ want to mention that he was holding back more than what Yui thought, apart from at the very end when it came to resisting her efforts to escape. He’d keep that to himself as not to knock her confidence.
The green light faded as Yui stopped talking, he felt he’d done all he could with his current skill level. He petted Yui lightly with avery sincere smile “Your training shows, my moves are somewhat reckless and there’s thousands of situations they have yet to be adapted to. You’ve seen so much more than me, that when you do reach a break through you’ll be stronger than I will be for a very long time” he truly believed it, she just had to keep working at it until she had a breakthrough. It would be then that all her hard work up to this point would truly pay off, experience could be every bit as valuable as actual skill. Yuuta stood up and offered a hand to Yui and made quite a kind gesture “Do you want to go for tea or anything, I don’t mind paying. It’s just a thank you for helping me with my training today” he figured it was the least he owed her, after all he had disturbed her focus and more or less dragged her into sparring. Besides, she seemed nice so he’d enjoy chatting to her. Post Words:348 Total Words: 4618

Yui actually laughed at the comment of them working together as a Doctor. She didn’t know the first thing about modern medicine, but was good at Herbology and knew what worked when through a bit of research and a crapload of trial and error. “I know how to break the body, not heal it,” she admitted, using a tone that was full of humor despite the fact that it was absolute fact. The work he had done had helped her headache immensely, and she again hated the fact that she hadn’t even learned the basics of the basics when it came to the first aid they were capable of conducting through spells. She would get there one day, but today was not that day. He spoke that her training had shown in their fight, and tried to whittle his own style down a peg in an attempt, it seemed, to make her feel better. The gesture was pleasant, even if it was misguided; she hadn’t had anyone care about what she thought or felt for years, so the change of pace was welcome. Regardless, she knew the truth, and that was that he was simply of a higher caliber than she was. Breakthrough indeed. What she needed was a freaking miracle.
But then Yuuta stood and offered her a hand to get up with, which she accepted and rose to her feet, dusting off her pants as she went. His offer made her pause though, as she considered it for a moment. “Sure. Tea sounds nice… but as far as where to get it, I know a place. Free too.” She had been referring to her home, where she had several tea plants and knew quite a few good recipes for, but she would wait to see what he said before inviting him to such an event. There was simply something different about Yuuta than any other Shinigami she had ever come across… he was like a constant fountain of optimism. While she couldn’t exactly say that she could accept those rays of happiness at face value, she could say, without a doubt, that it was pleasant to be around. She was so used to the negativity of the world, getting beaten for the slightest of reasons, being shunned at any given opportunity, she had almost forgotten that there was indeed another side of that coin. Yuuta supposed breaking a body was a bit more fun than fixing one, for a nice guy he had some very destructive impulses that much was certain. Plus, it was a hell of a lot easier to break somebody than fix it; yet even though the breaking was more fun the healing was certainly more rewarding. Healing gave him a warm fuzzy feeling inside. The same warm fuzzy feeling that filled him when Yui accepted the hand up, he had seen people who refused the hand before which always made him feel bad. It usually meant he'd hurt them somehow in a way beyond purely physical means, the type of hurt which lasted longer and did the most damage.
Oh she knew a tea place that was free? Either there was somewhere in squad two, or she was inviting him to her place for a cup of tea and either would be fun, and he said as much "Sounds awesome Yui, I'll let you lead the way" He would invite Yui back to his place so he could make her some of his fancy tea, but he wasn't sure what Mako was doing. Yui seemed quite innocent and reserved too, so he wouldn't want her to see anything she shouldnt. He always set some money aside each month to buy tea with for when he had guests or friends around, he didn't want to waste it purely on himself when he put himself on a strict budget.
He'd make small talk as they walked, asking about Yui's time in squad two and what it's actually like being a fully qualified shinigami. He was very aware that shinigami aren't perfect or full of virtue, but that didn't stop him working towards his dream of being a paragon of hope and virtue to inspire others. Only that way he felt he could bring about real change to the outskirts, and show people that it didn't matter what background you came from as if you work hard enough you can achieve your dreams. Yui leveled her gaze at him and gave him a very smug smirk. “Lead the way indeed…” With a quick Shunpo, she was on top of the tree she had been hanging out in, standing on one of the tallest branches so that she was standing above the leaves, plainly visible. “Catch me if you can!” she declared, and with another Flash Step, she was off to the races, speeding through the Seireitei with as much speed as she could muster. If for some reason he started to fall behind, she would slow up a bit, but not too much. Competitiveness was simply in her nature, and should it get close, she would give it all she had.
Of course, it wasn’t exactly fair, considering that he didn’t know exactly where she was going, did he? Falling back just a bit so they were exactly even, she would call out to him. “We keep going this way until we hit a tiny house under a great big tree. You’ll know when you see it because the garden is bigger than the house. Meet you there!” Yui was off like a shot, using everything she had to push herself to her limit, trying with everything she had to be the first one there. Now it was an even matchup because he knew the exact location they were racing to, and without any other distractions or thoughts, the little ninja could put everything she had into pure speed. Her Shunpo were utterly silent, but she was not suppressing her spiritual pressure, which gave it a pretty little lightshow effect as her spiritual pressure propelled her forwards.

Yuuta flinched when he saw Yui shunpo, not a frightened or shocked flinch, but one that led to him making chase before Yui even issued the challenged. Yuuta quickly took to the roof tops with his shunp to keep a better eye on Yui. A big grin was spread across his face as he matched Yui's pace, he loved racing almost as much as he loved fighting. Every step was being given everything he had; pushing off the roof tiles with his full power to propel him forwards. He was keeping himself from taking any short cuts because he didn't know where they were going even if he did know the whole area like the back of his hand.
Ah, Yui was really sweet, she gave him some directions which was basically a straight line, he was gutted because it meant that he couldn't use a short cut or anything. He jumped down from the roof tops and came head to head with Yui. Unlike Yui his shunpo gave off a noise but he didn't care because he could match the speed. He turned to face Yui, looking her in the eye with an innocent grin "You know, it's awesome to meet somebody else about my height, so much fun to fight somebody my own size" Admittedly he figured he weight twice as much as Yui, but being the same height was a good start for now. Now he thought about it, he had quite a bit of compact and dense muscle on him. He wondered if people found that attractive.... he certainly had attention but he figured that might be because he was strong and adorably short. Post Words:278 Total Words: 5236

His reaction time was very impressive, and bordered on being instinctive from what she guessed, recognizing it as her own reactions to such things when she was fighting. The race commenced, and they were both moving at breakneck speeds and Yui had a smile plastered on her face that was nothing short of pure enjoyment, even if it was determined. The little ninja was very competitive, and she wanted nothing more than to bring her full speed to bear and win this race, but it seemed that Yuuta, much like she had hoped, had the same idea. Blazing through, she pushed herself as hard as she could, being careful of her footing and several times even cracking the tiles she was flashing onto with the amount of force she was trying to muster, but still Yuuta kept pace.
In the end, it seemed that they were evenly matched, and landed at the same time in front of her tiny little house, and Yui went down to a knee, her fist hitting the ground to keep her from collapsing completely as she gasped for breath. Her stamina levels really were pathetic, and she wished more than anything she could figure out a way to make it to where she could last longer than she did when doing things like fighting or Shunpo. It wasn’t like she didn’t hit her limit enough, focusing more and more on endurance whenever she could, but it just didn’t seem like she was getting anywhere with it. She flashed a smile at Yuuta as she finally pulled herself back onto her feet. “You… are… pretty… fast…” she managed, standing up straight and moving to the door and slowly sliding it open, revealing a 10 foot square room with a few sitting mats and a large table in the center.
“Welcome to my little home! Make yourself comfortable.” she welcomed, putting her shoes by the door and moving towards the kitchen to get the water boiling. (P) 329 (T) 7314

Yuuta wasn't out of breath per se when he reached the house, he was just breathing a little heavier briefly but he recovered swiftly. He grinned and patted Yui on the back after she spoke "You're pretty fast too Yui, good work" he was impressed at how smooth her shunpo was, he could only hope he could move so quietly in the future. He was genuinely in awe of Yui despite most of his own abilities being higher.
He blinked a couple of times when he saw just how small the room was, it brought back memories of when he was very young. There was nothing wrong with a small home, but he was surprised Yui had one. He didn't judge though, and slipped off his shoes as he walked in and sat down at the table with a smile on his face. He glanced over at Yui as she started to boil the kettle with a soft smile on his face "Say Yui, what's the most exciting mission you've been on" he wasn't sure if she was allowed to speak about stuff like that or not, but if he never asked he would never find out. Yui shook her head as she recovered. “Not nearly as fast as I need to be.” It wasn’t said with much sadness or frustration, even though the emotions did certainly paint her words a bit, but instead it was said with a sense of determination. She had a strong desire to improve, a willingness to push herself to be stronger, and it would guide her actions for the years to come, and she hoped that one day she could fight against Yuuta full out. Her tea was a custom, home grown blend that was both bold and smooth, and in her opinion, whose expectations were pretty high, it was pretty good.
He asked a relatively normal question, but it brought out a little bit more sadness than she would have liked to emit with company present as she processed it and tried to find her wording. “Truth is, I don’t really get any good missions. I’m pretty low on the totem pole, so the good ones get taken by those higher than me. I usually just wind up delivering reports for others or dealing with tasks no one else wants to mess with.” Without another word, she moved into the dining room and poured them both a cup of tea, placing a matt between them and setting it down so she could refill the tea. “How about you? I mean, not missions since you are in the Academy, but I wonder what life was life before then?” History in the Rukongai could be dark and painful, but there was a chance it wasn’t too, and a nice warm story would do wonders to banish the darkness she felt welling within at her own situations. Yui's dismissal didn't do anything to remove Yuuta's smile, he could respect the desire to grow stronger and he was hardily the best person to lecture on being happy with your current abilities because for a long time he wasn't. But now he was grateful to be at his current level, whilst constantly striving to improve himself so he could help others and do as much good as possible. There was also the fact he just enjoyed training, so he saw it as leisure time anyway.
What did make Yuuta's smile fade was the hint of sadness he sensed with Yui when he mentioned missions, perhaps that was a bad move. Yui asked about him but he wanted to try and make her feel better; still it would be rude not to answer but he tried to keep it brief "Well I used to live in the slums, I spent most of my time in the forests exercising and exploring constantly. My life changed when I met Mako, he helped to bring my dreams to reality somehow. Oh, and I used to deliver sugar for a gang. It was actually sugar though, they were the nicest gang available and it helped me get my mum out the slums" there wasn't many other options, and it was a purely short term thing until he got out of the slums.
He reached out to place a hand on Yui's shoulder reassuringly "You shouldn't let it get you down though, the fact nobody else wants to do those jobs, shows that you are a key part of the squad. Somebody would have to do them, and what you learn now will help you be an awesome leader later. I think a leader should know exactly how everybody feels from the lowest ranked, up to the rank just below them or they won't respect everybody" he figured he did a bad job of cheering her up, and he was kicking himself for it but he figured he did his best and that was all he could do. Lived in the slums, spent most of the time in the forests… sounded honestly a lot like Yui herself from the standpoint of that simple information, and it was interesting that this person named Mako had made such a drastic change for him. Maybe that was the difference; Yui had never had anyone when she was on this side of life, or death, however you wanted to look at it… and thus she was forced to struggle and work at things alone, no one to lean on or able to be trusted. The information about delivering sugar for a gang was not something she was all that unfamiliar with; it made sense honestly, as Sugar was sort of hard to come by in the outer rings of Rukongai. He also had good reasonings for doing so, taking care of his mother. She idly wondered if it was his real mother from life, or the adoptive type that most people were accustomed to… but that was none of her business, so the question went unasked.
The hand on her shoulder made Yui pause though, she wasn’t used to physical contact, and she flinched for a moment, dipping her head at the notion because she knew what it meant and it was less than pleasant. She knew he would have seen it too, and she would need to explain the reaction or else he would think that it was something that he did, and that wasn’t something she would wish on someone who was as nice as Yuuta.
“Sorry… this ‘key part of the squad’ is used to getting beaten when stepping out of line. It’s really the only social interaction I have with my squad mates… so I’m not used to someone touching me without pain coming with it. But yea… I think I have a good grasp at the lower ranks after sitting in them for four centuries… I just don’t think leadership is something I’ll be able to grasp.” Damnit… she didn’t want pity… she didn’t want attention, and here she was, selling her sob story to someone she actually liked.
Pathetic.
“But that’s fine. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger… I’ll get so strong they won’t be able to do it again… gain enough rank to where I can keep people from getting hurt… make some changes and cut out the corruption in my division and all of Seireitei… the Gotei has cancerous growths, and I am the Blade that will carve them out.” Her resolve, which hardened during that statement faded as she poured herself more tea and took another sip. “Sorry about the sob story… just thought you might want to know why I flinched.” (P) 450 (T) 8048
