Tova had flipped ranks many times during his stay at Hueco Mundo. The first two being rather short lived as they quickly realized he was more than fit for a position as the Cuarto Espada. But then along came Myouri Unzen, an Arrancar inspired by the arrival of Sougetsu Voltaire who had surpassed Tova in combat power. It wasn't even a debatable fact, so Tova stepped down. He had been offered position as the Quinto Espada instead, but chose to stick with being relegated to Privaron. To him the number four had meaning. He liked it. And he refused to go back into the Espada proper until he could take back that position.
So that’s exactly what he did. He worked hard, never neglecting his duties as a Privaron to train the other Números assigned to him. In fact, it was through this that he had met Koy Zhenhao and Adelle Flores. They were two great, motivated girls who had taken well not only to his training but also his teachings. It was due to this that Tova had taken a liking to the two, finding them to be the only two Arrancar whose company he actually enjoyed. They were interesting, lively, and generally good-natured. Rare finds among the Arrancar species, and it only made sense that they themselves were already close friends.
Then an opportunity showed itself. He had gotten strong enough to put up a fight against Myouri Unzen, and once the challenge had been made the fight was scheduled. Except that battle never truly came to pass. Instead he was dragged to the desert by the increasingly irritated Riko Suzumei—who had long since dispatched Voltaire—who then confronted him. It was through her verbal lashings and unwavering assault that pushed Tova over the edge, granting him the full strength of his Hollow roots: Resurrección. Myouri Unzen was bloodlessly demoted shortly thereafter and Tova awarded his number. So the first order of business was obviously to move out of Tres Cifras and into the castle of the Cuarto; something he would certainly need to renovate to his tastes.
It was as he slept after the battle that a deeper power within him awakened. In the aftermath of the conflict his mind had reached an even more fundamental understanding of himself and the nature of Hollows. It was an incredible sensation and with it came a sort of peace and direction he had missed up until then. What had once been muddy became clear, that which had been difficult was now easy.
Things got busy after that. He was assigned multiple Fracción. He watched the evolution of Riko Suzumei and Siyrenyuu Maru into beings of extraordinary power. He met countless people, some brought in by their Queen herself. Apparently, and this came as a total shock to the Arrancar at first, one of them she had interest in marrying. Initially Tova had to wonder why a Human would put up with an Arrancar, until he realized that he was very similar to them. He didn’t like the man, but there was potential in him. He had great power, on the level of an upper-class Espada. That man was possibly beyond Tova himself.
Shortly thereafter was the arrival of Kyousuke Tsukimiya. Shinigami.
This completely shattered any preconceptions he had about that race. Here was a Shinigami, although not as particularly despicable as some of their recent guests, who not only got along with Arrancar (as much as he seemed to get along with anyone) but also the men and women in question. It was incredible; incredibly frustrating. This man was blessed with that which Tova would have done anything to have, yet he threw it away in order to spend his time with Hollows. Such an act was infuriating, yet curious.
So that was the Cuarto Espada was on top of Las Noches. Laid out on top of the dome he did nothing save stare up at the inverted crescent moon, hung in the air and unchanged just like the endless deserts around him. He had called out Kyousuke to have a discussion here, far from the investigative ears of the other Arrancar who didn’t trust him. Ironically, that made up almost the entire lot of them—this location was the safest choice.
Now let’s see if the guy actually shows up for our little chat.
