Success.
Rather satisfied by the sight of Kyousuke getting flung away like a doll from the force of his Cero, Tova merely observed the situation. The Shinigami had only just barely avoided the brunt of the attack and had entered a free fall. The vast amounts of debris kicked up when the Cero detonated had made it very difficult to see, but moonlight coupled with his incredible skill with Pesquisa had made it very easy for him to track the movements of Kyousuke and guide his Volar Agujas accordingly. It seemed that he had this in the bag, for each one of the needles had the power of a Cero behind it. No matter how toughened that body of his was, something the Cuarto could already tell exceeded his own, there would be no way for him to keep going.
That was until four of the Volar Agujas vanished and left only one to detonate.
What? That single thought filled his mind to the brim, almost to the point that it overflowed. It wasn’t even so much that the needles had been destroyed and thus detonated prematurely. It was more that”¦ They all detonated simultaneously? Not even a microsecond passed as they slipped from my control…There’s always some sort of delay, no matter how small! What did he do, and why didn’t it get all of them?
Such a strange phenomenon had never occurred before; although he had these needles destroyed in the past, it never felt like this. The Cuarto was completely clueless, and in the heat of battle he didn’t want to waste the time to form a theory. However, this sudden turn of events did give him enough hesitation to regain some of his self-control. No matter how hard he tried to fight it, he was an Arrancar. He loved to deceive people, to lead them around. It gave him a satisfaction and pleasure like no other. Battle was one of the best way to not only test his own intellect but also to put that to the test.
Suddenly, he noticed Kyousuke moving in the dust. Unable to understand how that was possible, the Arrancar immediately discarded the hesitation he had managed to regain earlier. For some reason, even that one Volar Agujas hadn’t put him down. His durability must have been even more than the Cuarto had estimated. However, he was definitely wounded.
So without further ado he launched himself from mid-air and aimed directly for Kyousuke. Although not using Sonìdo this level of speed would allow him to engage the likely weakened Kyousuke directly. A sufficiently well-timed and brilliantly executed melee assault should bring this skirmish to a close. That was when he noticed Kyousuke make a motion as if throwing something directly at him. How he knew he was here seemed like an obvious thing, although the Espada couldn’t quite put his finger on it. But regardless, he still had enough range to deal with it since he was already on the move.
Until an incredible heat and pain radiated from his right shoulder.
What is this!? His mind shattered from the blow. Even during his battle with Myouri Unzen he hadn’t taken a wound this bad. There was a spear quite literally impaling him through the shoulder; through and through. What truly boggled the Cuarto wasn’t the pain or agony from it, but that it was impaled as if it had been thrown from under him, not at his face as he rocketed towards the Shinigami. It’s not possible! Not just unexpected…but instead quite literally impossible!
The mind of the Espada tried to reject the situation entirely as the dust and debris from the nearly-destroyed dome settled. Had it been a bit weaker, Tova thought, that dome may have collapsed entirely from the Cero. In a few more seconds the Cuarto found himself perched on it many meters away from Kyousuke. On the way down Tova had turned his left arm back to normal which allowed him to immediately reach up and tear out the spear, his grip tight as the pain shook through his body once again.
Blood and other bodily tissue splattered out once again after he removed the weapon, even more so than when it went in. Already his right arm was weak, and that entire side of his body had found itself drenched in blood. Although the damaged exo-skeleton had already replaced the shattered reishi, the flesh underneath was not going to mend so easily.
Or so it would be expected.
“Kyousuke Tsukimiya…I’m glad you were brought to Hueco Mundo,” Tova said, his voice deep and serious as he continued to catch his breath. “In reward for that, I’ll show you something I’ve had ever since becoming an Arrancar that no one else until now, not even Riko herself, has ever seen. Do try to keep it a secret.”
Suddenly, the reformed exo-skeleton morphed a hole in order to show the wound to Kyousuke. Although he was rather far away it shouldn’t have been too difficult to see right through something that might almost be mistaken for a second hollow hole. That was, of course, if it wasn’t red and filled with tore tissue that obstructed the view. However, that didn’t last. At first it was just a twitched, a spin in the tissue. Then it moved again, and again. A mere moment later the entire wound spun shut, a fresh and unscratched layer of skin now where there had once been a massive flesh wound.
“Regeneration, ultra-fast regeneration. Though I will say that if you had hit an organ or shattered a bone I’d have a bit more of a problem on my hands…Too bad you seem to be in even worse shape.”
