Feeling better now, got sick after eating something yesterday and spent some time puking and napping. This should serve fine, since I mean everyone will look at it. They also get to know about my day yesterday which means you should all feel blessed.
Melee Range: The distance where fist fights typically go down. It is rare for a battle between two melee combatants to go outside of this range. 0 - 3 meters All melee attacks and techniques have this range unless otherwise specified.
Close Range: The distance where two fighters will often dart in and out of to escape attacks by their opponents, 3 - 10 meters. Intermediate Range: Close but not where two combatants can easily get their hands on one another. 11 - 50 meters "Ranged" melee attacks and spells/spiritual techniques (under 150 power) have this range unless otherwise specified. Long Range: The realm of expert distance fighters with spells that can rip across incredible and vast distances. 51 - 250 meters Spells and spiritual techniques at or above 150 power have this range unless otherwise specified. Extreme Range: So very rarely seen in practical combat this is a level of distance between fighters that can be achieved only by those who dedicate themselves to it. 251 - 1,250 meters Only spells or techniques that specify this range will function here. Out-of-Combat: At this point two individuals can no longer be considered in combat with one another. 1,250+ meters.

Flavor wise, nothing. Ignore it, mechanically some people use AoE's or ranged techs and those refer to those so people know what's going on. I.E. sticking numbers to ranges so people can imagine what an intermediate AoE uses. No one will ever write about their intermediate range AoE or spell IC. If they do don't thread with them anymore.

Pretty much.
FYI, when I proposed this in staff last summer, I wasn't intending you to have to use mechanics to change between melee and close range like you do between intermediate and long. It was just for finer AoE/range on tech control. Something that is very useful for my character and a few others, and that won't affect many.
