“Sensei, I don’t understand. Why are you teaching a class where you’ll fight Shinigami, we’ll be fighting Hollows…†Was the question a student asked as the group reached a large cliff overlooking a serene, grassy field. For this demonstration for the Academy Lancelot had taken them out of Seireitei. It wouldn’t be proper to have such a class inside for risk of the damage that might be caused where three Seated Officers will be fighting. Even if it was only for a class, they intended to go all out. That’s why it was called the Advanced Combat Course.
The question itself, seemed to Lancelot, to be entirely fair. Many people forgot about the Arrancar menace out there since most had never seen one. Had never gone head-to-head against the Hollows-gone-Shinigami that lurked on Earth and in Hueco Mundo. “Have you forgotten about the Arrancar already? The Hollows are easy. Think of them like chores. But if you truly intend to protect yourself and those around you, you need to be prepared to fight against Arrancar. And the best example we can give is two Shinigami fighting.â€
Inside the field below the cliff was Jake Duriel, Lieutenant of the Second Division. He was well known for his skills in stealth and assassination, but less known for his power. As far as that was concerned it was said he wasn’t too intimidating. It was the skill he possessed the held the Lieutenant in such a high position. The other was Reikon Ansatsu, Fourth Seat of the Fourth Division. On the other hand he was known for his raw power over his skill, something Lancelot found a bit strange for a Fourth Division member. Especially a Fourth Seat. But he wasn’t one to question their recruiting or promotion methods.
Then there was Lancelot himself. Third Seat yet known for his skill and power. Overall he was considered at least on the level of Lieutenant despite not having been promoted to such a rank. So instead he dealt with his position as a Third Seat, enjoying the ability to lead and help others yet taking satisfaction in having someone to answer to. Even in his Human life Lancelot hadn’t harbored any ideals of kingship. How could he with such a perfect King already at the helm?
“So here’s the lesson for the day. This will be a match of Jake Duriel and Reikon Ansatsu against myself to demonstrate doubly what to do when outnumbered by similarly skilled opponents and when fighting Arrancar. Because I assure you that the tactics you use against Hollows will be less than useless.†His tone was strong, yet encouraging. Although he spoke of the difficulty he tried to present it with a ray of hope. That they needn’t worry if they were only to pay attention to what he had to teach.
Without further ado, and since the details of the class had already been known to all participants, Lancelot leaped down from the cliff. His descent was slow, the sleeves of his Shinigami robes suddenly bloated with air as he fell. When he touched the ground his entire body crouched for a moment as it absorbed the force. A moment later he was stood up straight, facing Reikon and Jake.
“I’m grateful you two could make it to the class.†He began with a smile. He was known for his friendliness and polite attitude, something the Aizawa prided itself on in his case. No need to lose that here. “I know I’m at a severe disadvantage against two such as yourself, but I do intend to fight as hard as possible. I want you two to do the same. Don’t hold back. That’s why we’ve got a Third Division squad on standby. Injuries are expected here, gentlemen.†He explained, a distinct effort having been made to keep it as short as possible. Regardless he had to make it clear, and it seemed as though the two had gotten the message. So without further ado he drew the long daito from its holster on his back. The blade itself was too long to hold anywhere else.
“I give you the first move.â€
