Rayne sighed, shrugging off the coat from his Shihakusho, hanging it over a branch of the cherry blossom tree beside him, before unhooking his Zanpakuto's scabbard from his belt, settling it across his knees as he dropped to the ground with a soft thump, leaning back against the trunk of the tree and closing his eyes. He let out a soft sigh, shaking his head softly as he let himself relax.
It had been a long week, with seven Hollow sightings, two sightings of an Arrancar, as well as a supposed rogue Quincy killing Shinigami left and right. The last three had yielded no results, and one of the Hollows had managed a lucky shot as Rayne had split its mask in half, and left him with a gash that had required a visit to the healers to get it patched up.
All in all, Rayne was dead dog tired, and beat to near exhaustion. So it was a good thing that he had managed to get today away from the bustle of Seireitei, and taken the time to relax so close to where he had grown up.
His thoughts were interrupted, however, by a soft voice. Are you alright, Rayne?
He smiled at the sound, and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little worn out. Busy week, and being the lieutenant for External Affairs means I get little enough time to myself." He patted the pommel of the blade affectionately, and was rewarded when Nageki's voice rang out in a laugh.
Yes, well, you're the one that challenged the old lieutenant. You brought this on yourself, you know.
He chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, alright? I just didn't expect things to suddenly get this busy out of the blue once I got the promotion. But it's fine. I'm used to running like there's no tomorrow. Had to do it for how many years in the academy?"
He opened his eyes, however, when he felt someone else's spiritual pressure approaching. "Ugh. I can't win, can I?" he asked softly, followed by the soft tinkle from the Zanpakutou that meant Nageki was laughing again.
