It was a warm and early morning, the birds were chirping cheerfully as people were making their way to school and work. The breeze was like a blanket that swept through and comforted everything it touched, the leaves rustled as the wind sifted through the trees through out Karakura Town. It was a pretty typical day in Karakura Town, the people always seemed quite happy around here and the mood was always at an upbeat sort.
Reikon had been sent to investigate Karakura Town to see if there were any disturbances and file a report of what information he found during his investigation when he got back to Seireitei. He didn't see nor sense any disturbances around the area so he just walked around town and took in the scenery of the place he once called home. He couldn't really remember everything of the life he once knew before his death. Only small images and short flashes of memories remained deep in his thoughts. It wasn't really enough for him to put together and make out into anything that makes sense so he was always in deep thought most of the time. Some of his peers would often accuse him of daydreaming but really he was just trying to lay out all those blurs of memories and remember who he once was.
Most of his memories were filled with a scolding bright flash and than cold and utter darkness, almost like being burned alive and dropped into a bottomless abyss. It was quite a confusing blur really, it didn't really explain mush or give any real detail as to what it meant. As Reikon walked down the streets of Karakura Town he noticed many familiar places but none seemed to be enough to jog his memory. He could smell the wonderful aroma of the fruit stands, the candy stores, and the Ramen shop down the road as the breeze drifted past him like a blanket of happiness. It had been a long time since Reikon had been out an about in the Human world, seeing everything the way it was was very calming to him.
He continued his way down the streets and noticed a decent sized cemetery that stood across the street from the park he had just passed by. Again this place had its memories as well but not enough to spark his locked memories. He walked through the gate of the cemetery and made his way towards the rows of memorials and graves. Most of these graves had inscriptions and quotes that depicted something about the person that once was alive and made an impact on the people they once knew. He always found these interesting, seeing how people were remembered after they were gone from the world of the living.
As Reikon made his way down the rows of graves he happend to notice a woman and child standing in front of a large grave that had a small statue above it that resembled an angel carrying a sword and shield. He could see that the woman and child were both deep in prayer and they had laid out fresh flowers for the grave's owner. As he looked over their shoulders he could make out the words, "For a selfless young man who sacrificed himself for the sake of others safe being, A sacrifice never forgotten. He read these words and saw that these people must have been the ones the young man had saved. He than looked at the name labeled on the memorial and was quite shocked at what he saw... the name on the grave was Reikon Ansatsu.
He stumbled back a little as if shoved by the sudden surprise, this grave was his own and these were the woman and child that he had saved on the day of his death. It all started to make sense now, these two had been caught in a serious car accident and the car was ablaze. He had pulled the two from the car and as they were moving to safety he was pinned by falling debris and the car exploded killing him. "So that's what the scolding flash was and the cold darkness must have been me being held in the arms of death", he thought to himself. As he watched the two praying for him he could hear their prayers, seeing this had opened up the memory that he thought he had lost. He than smiled to himself seeing that these people were healthy and thankful for the sacrifice he had made.
The young child suddenly turned and looked in the direction of Reikon almost as if he could see him. Just than the child smiled and waved at him, Reikon turned his head and looked behind himself to see whom the kid was waving to but there was no one. He than turned his head back with a both surprised and confused expression on his face. "Hiya mister.", greeted the young child happily. "You can see me?!", asked Reikon in a baffled tone of voice. "Sure I can silly, why wouldn't i be able to?" questioned the child. "Well because i'm a Shinigami and its rare for humans to see me like this.", replied Reikon. "Oh, well i remember you... your the nice person who saved me and mommy."said the child happily.
Just than the mother looked up confused as to whom her child was talking to, she looked around not seeing anyone. "Are you talking to yourself again Mikomi?" asked his mother in a concerned voice. "No mama i'm talking to the nice man who saved us.", said the Mikomi cheerfully. His mother gave him a hug and kissed the child's cheek as she picked him up. "I think you've had a long day, maybe we should get you home so you can take a nap.", said his mother as she carried him away. "Okay mama.... bye bye mister thanks again for saving us.", said the child while waving as his mother carried him home.
Reikon smiled back at the child and waved good bye as the child and his mother disappeared from site. Reikon than looked up at the beautiful sky and watched as the few clouds that were there drifted along like a blossom petal in a lake. "You're more than welcome Mikomi, i'm glad your both doing so well... it was worth saving you.", he said as he smiled. "So how long exactly do you plan on watching me for?", asked Reikon to the figure he sensed watching him in the distance.
