Kiriko glared at the door in front of her. It was innocuous enough, a standard wooden frame with a sturdy plank. It wasn't so much the door that bothered her, but the fact that it was a barrier between herself and her target. A flimsy door like this could be blasted off its hinges so easily. That would solve the problem of a barrier, but it wasn't the right kind of entrance. Not when the room behind the door was the new office of one Jomyaku Umi. And not when the recruit who had just led her here was still walking away and back down the hall they had come up.
Jomyaku could no doubt sense her here. But Kiriko hadn't been standing long enough to draw much attention. The pesky problem of announcing herself would only grow more and more tumultuous the longer she dallied. Despite Kohara's report on his Captain Kiriko couldn't find it within herself to actually like the man. Hollow-hating he might be, but he had also been an Espada. A terrifying and gory creature like the worst of all creations. The fact that he'd apparently changed sides and was doing his best to annihilate his former brethren didn't inspire the kind of trust it should have, it just made her nervous. Such psychological shifts shouldn't be possible in the amount of time that had passed, or at least natural. There had to be remains of his old self, lurking, waiting. And when he slipped up Kiriko was not going to be one of those people who'd been lulled into a sense of security.
Shaking out her hands she pushed her hair back off her shoulders and wrapped her knuckles harshly against the door frame. Steeling her nerves and straightening she waited to see if there would be any response. It seemed needless to announce herself, but then again the two hadn't formally met before either. Kiriko decided to err on the side of protocol, more then pleased to frame this meeting in the light of a professional encounter. “Jomyaku-taichou, this is Chinda Kiriko, Captain of the Second. May I enter?”
She felt a bit like a recruit again, knocking on a superiors door. It had been a long time since such a feeling had occurred in her chest, the fluttering of nerves. Even with Ine-taichou it was different. He was an enemy she knew, someone she had already created her assumptions about. Jomyaku was the unknown. Just like her Captains had all been back when she was first joining the Shinigami ranks. It was stupid, and probably juvenile, but she couldn't abate the feeling even with that understanding. Kiriko didn't want to appear weak though so she steeled her expression and blocked out such thoughts, honing her mind as if on a mission.
Something about being this close to the man made her skin crawl. She couldn't quite place it but the feeling was like a million hot needles pricking her entire body. Was that intuition? Or just dread? Hahaue was particularly silent on the matter, which seemed strange given the Inner Hollow's propensity for painful advice when it came to the “right” thing to do. Aneue was the same as these past few months. Gone. It didn't fill her with confidence that she was walking into this unplanned meeting without the backup of either of her mind's facets.
Nonetheless, she had a task to do, and an assessment to make. There was no room for compunctions, not when this meeting might just decide how she would interact with the Sixth Division from now on. As strong as Kohara was getting his ability to topple Jomyaku in a Captain challenge seemed slim in the current moment. Kiriko had to resign herself to dealing with the man whether she liked it or not. If she could determine if he was trustworthy or otherwise it would help her plan for the future better. It was the Sixth that had originated the call for Sakamoto's head after all, and the Sixth was was spearheading the whole recapture or kill motto. She needed to know just how much she would have to do behind the scenes or with Kohara if she was indeed unable to work with Jomyaku.
