It was early in the morning, and the first-year Academy Students were waiting in the training dojo for their zanjutsu class. It was late in the first term and most students have already gotten used to the setting, all of them either sprawled lazily across the floor or leaning against the walls in groups, huddled together and whispering urgently. Rumors has it that they weren't going to get their usual instructor today - no, today they were going to be taught by the one and only captain of the Fifth Divison, the fearsome captain of the combat squad.
A small blond girl sitting off to the side by herself, watching her fellow classmates with green eyes. She was leaning against the wall, eyes downcast and fidgeting nervously with the zanpakutou in her lap. From time to time she would twitch a little, feeling more and more uneasy as she continued listening to the hushed whispers of her fellow classmates. Her feet tapped a soft, steady beat against the wooden floor and she kept glancing towards the doorway as if expecting something to suddenly jump out of it. Kumiko grimaced as she tried to block out her classmates’ excited chatters, without success.
"This Captain's suppose to be the physically strongest shinigami in Soul Society!"
"No, that's silly. The Captain Commander's the strongest - he has to be, right?"
"Not compared to this the Fifth Division's Captain. And anyone that strong must be serious and tall and scary, right?"
Biting her lip, Kumiko reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ears and took a deep breath of fresh morning air. She was ready. Right? Mentally she checked herself over - her white-and-red Academy uniform was spotlessly clean, with her zanpakutou secured at her waist. Her hair was neatly pinned up in its usual braid so it won't get in her eyes, and she got a good night's sleep last night. She should be ready...but despite of herself the whispering is making her nervous too. Damn, if the teacher really is the Fifth Captain...
I'm not even good at Zanjutsu, Kumiko thought unhappily. If the we really are having a captain over for a teacher I'll be embarrassing myself and killing off any chances of making a good impression with people who are already shinigamis. Taking a deep breath Kumiko closed her eyes and told herself to wait patiently for the teacher. It wouldn't do any good to worry over their instructor's personality anyways - it's not as if that would change anything. Green eyes scanned around the room again, for something to occupy herself with in the meantime...anything to keep her mind off the topic of their next teacher.
