Koudai had been having some pretty fair success lately, with even some modicum of good luck concerning his gathering of Hollows. He'd snagged several basic Hollows since he'd established a working relationship with an Arrancar named Souta. Hell, the old man had gathered a few Gillians as well, a fact he was proud of. Souta hadn't a clue what the Hollows were being used for, thankfully; prototype weaponized Hollows were lurking quietly in cages in the lowest level of his human world lab, and Koudai was all but positive that his erstwhile partner would be less than excited over the idea.
However, while he'd had plenty of basic Hollows, as well as enough Gillians to make a deadlier version of the major project he'd been working on, he wanted something new to work with. Something stronger, something more dangerous. Possibly an Adjuchas. And there was only one man he knew could help him out with this requirement: Souta the Arrancar.
As that thought rolled through his head, another one came to him a moment later, and he got out his Denreishinki. "These blasted things...I can remodel one in my sleep, but I'll be damned if I'm too old to use one quickly." After a few moments' effort, Koudai managed to get a call through to Souta, using the wait time to get himself in a more "appropriate" tone of voice. "Hey, Aoogushi. I need a few things that only you can get me." Expecting some sort of non-divine but certainly painful retribution, that would almost certainly defy conventional physics somehow, the old scientist held the Denreishinki away from himself, turned on the speaker function, and aimed it away from his body. "I'm havin' some trouble snaggin' me an Adjuchas. Kinda thinkin' one 'a those animal-lookin' buggers'll be plenty helpful ta my work."
After a few moments, once more waiting to listen to any reprisal or follow-up the Arrancar might have, Koudai made a second request. "Another thing: that sweet little lady ya brought me last time for our trade was an absolutely delicious find. Think ya can find me another Arrancar like her? Smart, good-lookin', not entirely ruined by ya? I might 'a lucked out on that last prerequisite last time, but could ya try that one again? Got no problem crankin' out whatever the hell ya'd like in return if ya can manage that one for me." Koudai even took a moment to grin to himself. "Hell, for each one 'a those fine little ladies ya bring me, I'll put together one more project for ya. Fair enough?" Oddly for him, Koudai was being quite polite at this point, letting Souta speak his mind on the matter without once interrupting him. "We'll meet up at Saiko again, tomorrow in the early afternoon. Place was pretty damn beautiful that night the last time, though, I gotta admit. Just this time, try not ta be in another world on me? Had ta be insultin' that I, of all damn people, managed ta sneak up on ya that day." With that, he waited for Souta to share what his wants were. Koudai merely grinned, almost insanely evilly, to himself. "I gotcha, Souta-kun. I'll see ya then."
An unceremonious closing of the Denreishinki preempted any sort of farewells either party would've shared with the other, allowing Koudai to return to his lab and get to work on Souta's requests. After he'd taken the time to neaten up his workstation.
"Eleanor, dear, go and put on your best uniform." His Arrancar assistant looked at him in surprise. "We're going to meet our mutual friend here in a day. We don't want to truly disappoint him. by looking shoddy, now do we?" Eleanor smiled almost as evilly as he did for a moment before bowing and leaving. "So, he wants me to get Tokiyo's number. Not bloody hard for me. I do maintenance on these damn Denreishinki all the time." For a few moments, Koudai scrolled through a database on a terminal built into his workstation, then wrote the number down for Souta. "Not hard to accomplish. Lucky me that I maintain a database with all the people I personally know in it." He took a moment to adjust a few settings on his Denreishinki in an attempt to distract himself. "Don't want the higher-ups getting suspicious or anything. I'm a Third Seat; I must set a good example, after all."
"A good example? You? The hell're ya talkin' about, ya old git?" The voice of his zanpakuto rang out for a moment, irritating Koudai as he spent time attending to Souta's other request. "'Sides, yer only workin' the angles. That Arrancar ain't gonna hold you under him like he has been forever. You're gonna end up takin' 'im out, either yourself or by proxy, one of these days."
"Silence yourself this instant, Kawazame." Koudai's grin seemed to be almost felt by the spirit, as it really did quiet down. "While all of that might well be true, for now we must continue to play our part. Not only that, but he has been an honest partner in this alliance." Eleanor walked past and gathered up a couple of things in preparation for the next day. "After all, he gave me this delightful little tart to work with. She might've once been meant for an experiment, but now she's helping me perform the experiments." The old man's grin became almost lecherous for a moment. "To say nothing of other services she provides with incredible skill."
After a moment, Koudai shook his head, further dissuading Kawazame from speaking. "Now settle down. We'll be getting some rest earlier than normal today, so that we might be good and ready to meet with Souta." With precise, practiced and unconscious motions, he switched out one tool for another and continued working on a remodeled version of his prototype reiatsu dampener. Not that he expected the device to work long enough to provide an adequate defensive purpose, of course. "All of us will be there this time. You, me, and Eleanor. Even if you won't be manifesting out there for this."

The next day, almost two hours earlier than he himself had set up the appointment, Koudai arrived near Lake Saiko, Eleanor standing next to him. A small piece of paper rested comfortably under Koudai's outer sash, something he made sure was secure as he straightened out his plain, white, homespun haori. He and Eleanor enjoyed the view of Saiko as they waited for Souta's inevitable arrival.
It didn't matter to Koudai when Souta arrived, for once the Arrancar did make it, he'd turned to face his business partner and smiled evilly. "Welcome back to this beautiful vista, Souta-kun. Are you ready to bargain with me again?"
