Over the course of her two millennia the sensation of being as weightless as a feather had become all too frequent. Repeatedly she'd been forced to experience the feeling of free falling, forced to observe her own ivory silk strands whipping in front of her face. This time, at the speed in which she descended, the tendrils acted like thousands of miniature whips as they lashed across her frost bitten face and lips. Alone they would have caused nothing more than a minor annoyance, something easily shrugged off and ignored when compared to the pain she'd endured over the course of her life. Yet with the creeping bite of frost and dying flesh the hair served as a source of unimaginable pain.
Through the darkness a stream of vibrant light pierced, shredding through the shadows that dared engulf her. The long forgotten aroma of the blooming cherry tree overpowered the pungent aroma that enveloped her unwashed body. Effortlessly she rolled her body over to stare not at where she had come from, but where she was going. Her uninjured arm rose up and shielded her faded storm blue eyes from the light and through it she could see the fondest image of her home. Even from the distance she was at, though rapidly approaching she was, her eyes could make out the crystal clear water of the koi pond. She could even see the petals that danced delicately across its surface. Even the massive tree itself was visible, it's limbs waving frantically in the wind. For her it appeared as if the tree were waving her down, welcoming her back to the home she hadn't been to in well over a year. It was just as she crossed the threshold of the portal that the thought ran through her mind.
It was a shame she was about to ruin the waters purity.
Balling up as best she could, her body smashed into the solid brick wall like surface of the still water. Between the whistling of the wind she'd just experienced and the sudden explosion of the water rushing past her she was almost certain she'd never hear a single thing again. The force of the impact upon the water was enough to rupture the infected wound upon her right shoulder, sending free flowing streams of crimson taint into the waters body. Through the bubbles she could see that her consciousness was fading, but she could have sworn the various fish within the pond had begun to loom over her as if to welcome her back. Yes, it was a pretty thought.
Through the aid of her Zanpakutou Spirit, Kirin, she was able to force her body to listen. Slowly she crawled towards the chaotic surface, stretching her neck as far as possible so that she might catch a quick gasp of air. Kirin, present by her side, continued urging her to stay awake for the time being. Demanded that she do as she had been instructed by him. It was the images of him and the promise that he had made that allowed her to breach the surface.
She rolled, allowing just her head to rest against the rocks that surrounded the pond. This was as far as she'd be going alone. It bothered her honestly. Someone, likely a member of her family or staff, would find her in such a poor condition. Her ivory strands clung to her face and exposed portions of chest while the remaining length floated upon the crimson tainted surface; they too being tainted in the process. Short, shallow gasps passed through her craggy lips and bruised face. There she stayed, pondering on the idea of calling for help or not. Under any other circumstance Kirin would have been furious with her, but this time she'd done well. For once she'd not given up and for that he was proud. She'd finally started to learn.
