Getting into Hueco Mundo had been the easiest part. With Karakura still in the state that it was, it hadn't taken long to track down a suitably powerful enough Hollow-breed, and even less time to apply the correct amount of force to get what she wanted from the creature. Fingers tightening, Kiriko tossed aside the corpse with the carelessness of brutality, watching as it rolled across the empty sands before thudding to a halt.
Slowly she lifted her gaze, scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. She had been here once before. At the back of Tsukimiya-taichou and with a hoard of soldiers behind her. It had not seemed so desolate then, but the empty vastness suited her mood perfectly even if it delayed her mission objectives. Wiping the last smudges of blood from her hands onto the back of her hakama, Kiriko eyed the ever present moon and started off in what she hoped was the correct direction.
Maybe she should have kept that Hollow around long enough to get information from him? At the time it all seemed so unnecessary. Kiriko knew why she was here, and for whom, and anything beyond that was needless drivel. The voices in the back of her head continued in their petulant shivering, Hahaue's rattled but calm words and Aneue's angry backlash. Kiriko closed her ears to such whimpering, already set in her plans. Tova had shown her the way, but it was Fujikagi who had truly given her the push that she needed.
He had been right when he said that Kiriko couldn't ignore the human sides of herself. But she had been right when she had told him that she knew how to get rid of them. It was surprisingly simple. She had to wonder why it had taken her this long to realize the solution.
History was a funny thing, she had never expected to come calling back to Tova's side. Had never really imagined that they would honestly cross paths again in a great sense. He was the faraway benefactor, whose image over time had corroded. Kiriko hated him. She blamed him as well. But not as much as she blamed herself, and perhaps that was why she still could not think of the Arrancar King without feeling that thrill of emotion. That tantalizing bond. Family. It seemed natural to her for family to hurt each other, so the two were not incompatible feelings. It was stronger, in fact, for that hint of betrayal.
Whatever else Tova was though, he was smart. Worldly. Intelligent. And as the creator of the Vaizards, he would know how to accomplish what it was that Kiriko wanted. And she was certain now that it was what she wanted. Certain that she would never give her mind another chance to betray her. To change her.
Planting her feet deep in the sand, Kiriko stood tall and thick against the light at her back. She wasn't here as an errand girl, and she certainly wasn't here representing Soul Society. Why play by those rules anymore when she didn't need to? When they had ceased to apply to her? Games were just that... games. And Kiriko had begun to tire of all of these stupid and useless little stipulations that had forever dragged her down.
With the sight of the towers of the King's home capping the sky in the distance Kiriko drew her sword and threw off all the normal constraints on her reiatsu. She had always kept herself contained on some level, hiding and cloaking and subverting so that it was impossible to tell how powerful she really was. It didn't matter anymore, that secrecy. And as her reiatsu exploded all around her, Kiriko watched the undulations in the very air and smiled. This was her. The real her. And the huge wave of energy was sure to draw out just the man she was looking for. After all, he had called out to her this way once before.
