Looking Up
Hope
Always You
Looking Up
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty.
I look upon the Earth so small,
And say to Him, the All in All
“Why, o’ why, oh Glorious King,
Whose presence makes the heavens sing,
Did you choose me, o’ lonely me, to love, to hold,
To trust and proclaim,
Your holy name
Throughout all creation and every nation,
So that they could do the same?”
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty.
I look upon my tiny frame,
Held up through your perfect aim,
And wonder o’ God, I wonder,
Why, o’ why, Lord, do you tear asunder,
All that stands before me?
Why, o’ Lord, o’ why do you adore me,
O’ lonely me?
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty
And at last I see what you have done,
At last I know what you have won.
At last I see the Truth of You,
Declared through me, and you and you.
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
I never saw this truth before,
But now I see it, more and more.
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty.
I look upon the Earth so small,
And say to Him, the All in All
“Why, o’ why, oh Glorious King,
Whose presence makes the heavens sing,
Did you choose me, o’ lonely me, to love, to hold,
To trust and proclaim,
Your holy name
Throughout all creation and every nation,
So that they could do the same?”
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty.
I look upon my tiny frame,
Held up through your perfect aim,
And wonder o’ God, I wonder,
Why, o’ why, Lord, do you tear asunder,
All that stands before me?
Why, o’ Lord, o’ why do you adore me,
O’ lonely me?
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
You would care for me, o’ lonely me,
In all your glorious majesty
And at last I see what you have done,
At last I know what you have won.
At last I see the Truth of You,
Declared through me, and you and you.
I look up at the starry sky
And wonder, o’ I wonder why
I never saw this truth before,
But now I see it, more and more.
Hope
I was hurt and alone
Broken down, without a home
I was empty inside
Hollow and frail, I tried to hide
Where I thought you wouldn’t find
But You, You sought after me
You found me in the darkest of nights
You picked me up and surrounded me with light
Saying, “Do not worry child; I Am here.”
But I didn’t listen, for I was afraid
Afraid of all the pain I thought you’d made
In my life, my lonely life
So I fled, to where I thought you wouldn’t know
But You, You went where no one else could go
You found me in that place I had made
Out of the hurt and pain I’d been paid
You found me there, on that fateful day
You told me of how You saved me, every single day
And somehow, you saved me
From me, for me
For once I was lost
But now I am found
For once I was blind
But now, I see
Broken down, without a home
I was empty inside
Hollow and frail, I tried to hide
Where I thought you wouldn’t find
But You, You sought after me
You found me in the darkest of nights
You picked me up and surrounded me with light
Saying, “Do not worry child; I Am here.”
But I didn’t listen, for I was afraid
Afraid of all the pain I thought you’d made
In my life, my lonely life
So I fled, to where I thought you wouldn’t know
But You, You went where no one else could go
You found me in that place I had made
Out of the hurt and pain I’d been paid
You found me there, on that fateful day
You told me of how You saved me, every single day
And somehow, you saved me
From me, for me
For once I was lost
But now I am found
For once I was blind
But now, I see
Always You
Always You
Once, I was alone.
Broken, and weary to the bone
I watched everything I held dear
Slip away
Day by day, year by year
Until only You remained
Once, I was afraid
Afraid of the hurt I’d made
Afraid of all the pain I’d caused
Afraid of all the bonds I’d sawed
In half, again and again
Until only You remained
Once, I had a life
And I filled it, every day, with strife.
It was a broken, wretched mess,
Torn up and less
In every way
Because I had made it that way
Everyday
Until only You remained.
But You remained.
You, who always held me
You, who always lead me
You, who always saved me
You who always loved me
In spite of me
It was always You who strengthened when I was weak
Always You who gave courage when I was meek
Always You who gave when I was in need
It was always You who did every good and happy deed
In my life,
My lonely life…
Once, I was alone
But now… I am never alone.
Because “I AM WITH YOU”.
His room is silent, as always. Before, the quiet was a welcome comfort, a chance to shut away the cares and worries of the day and rest without interruption. But now, the boy couldn’t help but remember. The train, the fight, his decision.
For all his knowledge and skill, he hadn’t been able to do anything. He couldn’t change her. He couldn’t lead them. He couldn’t protect them. He couldn’t even help the woman he loved. He couldn’t do anything, in the end.
The boy sighed, shifting his gaze from the popcorn patterned ceiling to stare out at the shattered moon. He knew he should feel something more than what he was, knew that the numbness in his chest was a sign that he wasn’t coping with it near as well as he pretended. He knew it, but he didn’t care; she would have kept going, if it had been the other way around. She was strong like that.
And he would be too, if only to honor what she had been.
One of these days, Weiss surmised, she was going to kill her partner.
Once, I was alone.
Broken, and weary to the bone
I watched everything I held dear
Slip away
