When you wake up with liquid gold seeping through your curtains, you plan things. The world is smiling, the sky is the limit and nothing could ever stop you from doing whatever you want. And then, when the moment comes that the sun can't get through the grayish mass above your head anymore, you tend to hesitate. You doubt. You pull back and that's when all the previously planned things hit the ground with a velocity higher than the one you've started at.
Kasumi's concept was great, her execution on the other side.. was not so.
How long had it been since she had entered this space? Ten minutes? Twenty? Pacing through the small area in front of Kiriko's office, Kasumi had lost her sense of time. She wasn't sure if she wanted to leave this realm. Wasn't sure if she was ready to give up on the one thing she had planted to do when arriving here. And at the same time, she knew that her body was already heavily damaged. Without the scientist's help, there might not have been a body to return to. And then again she had promised herself that she would get her back.. But there was the issue of the girl not being able to find any trace of Alexandra around this place. Either her gift wasn't enough, or..
She cringed at the thought.
Her mind was a mess. She couldn't get out of it. Couldn't see anything clear.
Swallowing, Kasumi stopped right in front of the door, staring at it with an empty look in her eyes. Slowly she extended her hand towards the wood. And instead of knocking, placed the palm against the smooth surface, carefully as if the door would come alive and jump aside if the touch would have been too sudden. That wasn't something she wanted, not yet. First she had to put her thoughts in a row. She needed a bit more time to decide. To plan. Pulling her hand back, Kasumi turned around, leaning on the hard wood with her back. Perhaps she should come back tomorrow? But would it be easier then?
Not wanting to seem rude about the captain's hospitality, Kasumi didn't know how to start about leaving. She really didn't want for Kiriko to think that she was being ungrateful. Second ticked by as she was standing there in silence. She might have stayed there for longer if her eyes hadn't caught someone move at the entrance of the hall. Oh no! Turning the kid's hand formed a fist, knocking. Once- twice. And without waiting she quickly shove the door the side, partly diving inside of the room before closing it behind her. Her heart was beating rapidly and she wasn't sure if her actions had been rude. But if the one who had walked in would want to meet up with Kiriko, Kasumi's chance would be gone. She couldn't let this opportunity slip by, because she wasn't sure if she would get this far the next day.
"M -morning Kiriko-san!"
Had she ever been this nervous before? No. Not in her presence. Kasumi's eyes widened as she took a step forward. The kimono suddenly felt too warm. Were it those images that caused her to feel the way she did, so .. worried? Or was this fear? Kasumi's gaze traveled through the room before it fell onto the raven haired woman. Was this Shinigami really the one responsible for so much pain? Screams, bared bones- Death? No no nono. Kiriko wasn't bad, she was good. She was kind. And she nothing to do with these skeletons that tormented the girl in her nightmares ever since the ..disclosure.
Pouting, the girl wanted to ask about it. But she wasn't sure if she wanted to know. Because ignoring the idea was easier when there was doubt eating away at it. Blind trust was alright. Sensei wouldn't hurt her. All she needed now was..
A chair!
With an apologetic yet nervous smile, Kasumi pulled the chair closer to the desk before making herself comfortable. Her eyes avoided the captain's gaze again. And once she had settled, Kasumi realized she didn't see a blade. Where was Kiriko's weapon? Another question she wanted to pose. But it would have to wait. Kasumi really hated waiting more than anything. Opening her mouth, the squirming child wanted to tell Kiriko the reason that she was here, now. But something else entirely slipped from her lips.
"Kiriko-san, when is your birthday?"
What? How-..
Widened blue eyes sought Kiriko's jet black pools of confidence.
Maybe that wasn't a bad question. That way, she could congratulate the captain- it would show the woman that Kasumi hadn't forgotten. Because Kasumi was certain that she wouldn't. Not after all the help. It was only now that the human child realized that she had done the thing she didn't want to do. She had gotten attached to Kiriko. To a Shinigami. To someone who was dead. But she couldn't help it. Kasumi's unstable personality always forced her into the arms of those who provided her with only a little of their care.
Crossing her arms on the desk in front of her, Kasumi allowed her head to rest on top of them. White hair falling over her face like a veil, obscuring her eyes from sight.
"I- I think that I'll need to go home."
- I'll miss you.
She didn't add the last part to her mumbling.
