Patch 2.3.1
BASIC MECHANICS
- The default requirement for success for an illusion or mind-affecting ability is now Equivalent. This is to account for Reiatsu Perception's Illusion Pierce ability, which every character with Intermediate RP or higher possesses.
- Bindings, like wounds, are reduced in efficacy on a failed dodge or block.
- A character caught in a bind may not attempt to break out in the same round that they are bound.
- Area of Effect Attacks have been edited as follows:
- The check to block an Area of Effect Attack has been changed to simply Power vs Power.
- Area of Effect Attacks may no longer be used to block attacks.
- A cooldown has been added based on the AoE's range. This may be lessened or removed through drawbacks, as normal.
- The rules text has been rewritten to better communicate how they work given these changes.
- The rules concerning changing range while dodging an attack have been simplified, to make it easier to dodge large AoEs:
Range changes may be combined with any sensible action, such as dodging, or chasing and attempting a sword strike. However, a range change should only occur once in a post; running several range increments away to avoid an attack and running back to slash your opponent with a sword all in a single round stretches credibility to the extreme.
Area of Effect Attacks Attacking with something akin to an explosion or otherwise, targeting a large area using base stats. Costs a base of 5 stamina at Close Range, doubled with each range increment. Requires a cooldown of 1 round at Close Range, increasing by one with each range increment. At Melee Range, costs a base of 3 stamina and requires a single-action cooldown. May only be dodged by moving outside of the attack's range or blocked with a barrier or other appropriate method. AoEs do not possess a Precision component. What this means is that blocking an AoE is a single Power vs Power check and dodging one is a Speed vs Power check, they may not be used defensively, and the cost of boosting their Power is doubled. Barriers or blocking techniques that block all attacks in an area may be created, but must possess a Precision component. James projects a blast of energy that explodes upon impact and reaches everyone in Close Range, attacking at base Power and costing him 5 Stamina.
SHINIGAMI - Hadō #63, Raikōhō and Hadō #91, Senjū Kōten Taihō now have a shared single-action cooldown.
Negation - The 'X' in the cost of Negation only refers to the cost of the action being negated, not any buffs or attack modifiers added to it. This means that people stacking multiple actionless techniques together to create powerful attacks should be wary; negating their attacks is now incredibly stamina-efficient
This was a thing in 2.2. Given direct power negations and the drastic hit boosts/buffs took in 2.3 that rendered them far more balanced, this is no longer needed and bordering on exploitative. Negations, as before, require the full cost of the technique to be paid, including added boosts from other techniques.

Patch 2.3.4
- Perception Boost affected inflicting wounds in the past. Now it doesn't.
- Reworded it completely to better convey this, but the function is otherwise unchanged.
Perception Boost Passive When a character's Reiatsu Perception skill is one rank higher than their opponent's, they are granted +10 to all affected stats during dodge or block checks. Specializing in offense will increase this to +15 when they are attacking, while defense will do the same when they are dodging or blocking another character's attack. If the character's Reiatsu Perception skill is two or more ranks higher, this bonus is doubled.
Empathy Passive, Melee Range, range is increased by 1 increment per rank in Reiatsu Perception above Intermediate When close enough to an opponent that grants them a Perception Boost, the user may discern the nature of their thoughts and feelings, increasing the bonus granted by their specialty to +20 (doubling to +40). Gaining information through Reiatsu Perception beyond that granted by Sense will typically require that player's permission.
