Karakura Town, Japan - 4:00pm in the evening.
Sumire could have been home by now. Could. Have.
But as fate willed, she had gotten a call from one of the butler’s that served the Tsutsugami family right after she had passed through the gates of her school, being asked to look out for Taiki Tsutsugami - the families oldest but also most stubborn child as it seemed. Although she had been living with them for almost a year now, Su barely knew him. He usually disappeared into his own world and it seemed that he wasn’t too fond of company - or maybe just her company in general. Not wishing to cause any trouble or to force herself on anyone, the redhead had decided that it would be the best to leave that particular person in peace instead of trying to get along with him, their troublesome age and the opposite gender could only approve of that as well.
And yet, here she was, with the task to look out for a boy whom she barely knew, and who could be anywhere by now. Sumire was too kind to deny a wish coming from the people who willingly took her in without knowing her and thus she would try to get over with this as quickly as possible. So far, two things troubled her more: a. the fact that she had to carry her heavy schoolbag around town and b. that she was still wearing her school uniform and thusly froze her guts off. She knew she should have gotten herself a long coat after all.
Su was riding the train, and though it was warm, it was also crowded and she secretly hated public transport. Too many smelly people up close to her, especially during this hour of the day. The number would decrease the longer she was traveling, but Su was exhausted and thus she pressed her lips and her legs together and wrapped the thin arms around her upper body. She had her earphones plugged in and blankly stared out of the window. Truth be told, the search would be quite the difficult one, especially since she wasn’t really talented when it came to sensing Reiatsu. However, Su had been told that Taiki, who ran away from time to time, prefered abandoned and lonley places, usually outside of Tokyo and far away from Karakura Town.
Fortunately, she was given a bunch of possible places he could be at, one certainly leading to some kind of abandoned farm that was located within a large forest. Su hated the idea of having to look for someone, in some place where no one lived, but as for now she didn’t really had a choice and just prayed that she would make it before it got dark.
After around 45 minutes the train had arrived at it’s final destination and was practically empty. As soon as she got out of it, Su stretched her limbs to warm them up and took a careful look around.
Countryside.
Wasteland to her left and a forest to her right.
The wasteland was, compared to the dark forest, much more inviting, but she couldn’t spot a single building in the distance, so the forest had to be it. “I refuse to believe that a teenager comes all the way to hang out at a place like this. If something terrible happens to me, you will be the only witness, Moya-kun. I don’t want to push you, but I deeply regret that I never made sure wether or not you can take on a physical form.” She looked to her left, but of course, her imaginary friend did not respond. “Whatever.” Shaking off her fear, the young girl started jogging towards the forest, more and more regretting her decision to come here alone, while being strangely excited at the same time.
Sumire was no coward, not at all. In fact, she was one for adventures, but she usually didn’t had the chance to put her life on the line like this. Karakura Town was Japans spiritual epicenter and thusly crowded with evil Spirits and other creatures. Compared to it, this forest seemed to be dull and uninteristing. But what Su feared weren’t the Spirits but the humans. She may be naive, but she had watched enough Supernatural to know where this was going - and all she had brought were a bunch of books.
Well, at least they were heavy and hard and she surely wouldn’t miss them.
Su called the butler to make sure that she was at the right location and after he confirmed it, she found herself a little more at ease. She followed a dirt road for about 25 minutes until she finally spotted the ranch he had talked about. All that was left were ruins, and Su could tell at one glance that there was no way in hell she was going inside there alone.
Instead, she turned around to check if anyone was behind her, before she kneeled down and hid behind a bunch of empty barrels - for safety’s sake. She cleared her throat and started whispering.
“So, Moya-kun. I got two options. Staying outside and calling out for him - or sneaking inside and looking for him. The risk of getting noticed by a bunch of crazy cannibals are about the same I would say. If I yell, everyone around here can hear me. I don’t really know if that’s a good or a bad thing. I’m not really sure if you can negotiate with cannibals either. I think I will just sneak in, find Taiki, and then we will get the hell out of here. Sounds like a plan?”
Silence.
“I will take this as a yes!”
She clenched her small fists and stood up, quickly running towards the main building.
The door was unlocked.
Su carefully pushed it open and glanced around the corner.
Not too long until nightfall, and Su barely had any time left before she wouldn’t be able to see a thing anymore. “God, I should have brought a flashlight.” The insides were a mess. It was dirty and clearly, no one had been living here for a while. The sight of dust covering the furniture and the ground was strangely soothing and a lot better than finding a fully functional home that was inhabited by potential cannibals.
“T-taiki-sama? Are you here? Taiki-sama!”
Her voice was nothing but a mere whisper, and slowly, she pussyfooted her way through the house.
