When entering the World of the Living there were several precautions that Shinigami were required to take. One of the most important and well-practiced procedures was the use of a Gigai. Wondering the world without one of the artificial bodies often drew attention—the wrong kind. By concealing its user’s spiritual presence, a Shinigami could travel the world undetected with relative ease of mind. It was unfortunate, then, that former Captain Commander Miyazawa was left without such a useful instrument while still technically on the run.
No matter, she had managed to evade arrest or a serious incident for this long unabated. Simple steps like suppressing one’s reiatsu and relying on precision oriented Hadō spells went a long way to keeping one’s self hidden. On the other hand, there was a limit to just how far you could suppress your reiatsu without intense concentration. To help alleviate her own predicament the maroon-haired woman had modified an odd Bakudō spell she had come across in her studies. Taking the form of two large rings the spell was originally meant to seal the soul vents on a Shinigami’s wrists. With a few tweaks, though, Ai had managed to seal the seals within two pairs of thin gold bracelets that produced an effect similar to a Gigai—just nowhere near as effective. A well-practiced prying third eye could pierce the spell.
But was it good enough to fool this man?
She had sensed his presence the minute he stepped through the Senkaimon. Turning tail now was definitely off the table. She could not outrun the fastest Shinigami in Seiretei. Ai had two immediate choices available to her: fight or hide. Neither option was particularly appealing. After a brief moment of thought, the woman decided to confront the current Captain Commander. The two of them had an uneasy relationship. He seemed to respect her and she… she acknowledged he was the stronger of the pair. For an ex-Fifth Division Captain that would be enough for his ego.
Flickering out of sight, the woman reappeared several hundred meters away in an empty grassy plain.
She was tired of constantly running.
“Captain-Commander Ine, where are you?!”
