Raph stood in the Vigilance building, staring off at the silhouette of Karakura Town, still under construction, as the sun began to sink down below the horizon. Oftentimes, when asked, he would tell the workers or students that he was only a bit thoughtful on the fate of the town, but that wasn’t true. Since coming to Vigilance, and since he’d needed to start investing so much time into the place, he’d been neglecting Kokuou Munashii and the Kosa House. While he owed a good bit of who he was now to Adimus, he also owed a great deal more to his boss Kokuou.
His duties were done for the day, and so Raphael made his way out of the building. It wasn’t unknown for him, or any of the other associates really, to leave for the day when they were finished with their tasks. Many had gotten apartments in the area and so would head home for the day, not that many would really mess with them, nor would Raph have wanted them too. Most of the powers that the people had were still fairly unrefined and, if not used appropriately, would kill the user as well as the attacker. It made him smile to think that he was doing some good for people like himself, ordinary folks who found themselves with powers.
Yet he knew the progenitor of the true evolution, or perhaps mutation was a better word, of his own abilities and that was the venerable owner of the Kosa Estate. Legally speaking Raphael was still on that payroll as well, and was constantly running back and forth between the two whenever he was called upon. While this left him little time for recreation, or himself for that matter, it was something that he didn’t mind, since he was helping people of all ages, races and nationalities.
He found himself wandering through the ruined city. He passed the mall, passed the still ruined remains of a bank, then a high school… He wondered, sometimes, what the point of it all was. Was it better to rebuild that which was destroyed, in the hopes that this one would survive? Or was it simply man’s love of their edifices and structures, hoping that this time will be different, that this flood won’t take it away? Raph didn’t really know, and nor could he be bothered to care, most of the time. It wasn’t worthy dwelling on such lofty and nebulous philosophy, in place of the present.
After perhaps an hour of walking, give or take he walked past a few areas that had a lot of spirits in them, he arrived at what had been his destination all along: The Kosa Estate. It was practically intact and was running several little relief projects on-site. Vigilance was as well, but Kosa was probably a bit more…intimate. Where Vigilance was a world-wide organization and practically obligated to help, Kosa had ties with the community and people that were filing in were well known by the people that were giving aid.
The two men guarding the gate weren’t the same two that had greeted him last time, but instead of giving him crap about his business they let him in this time. Whether through reputation with Kosa or Vigilance, he didn’t know, but he was inside nonetheless. His strides were confident and purposeful and he had the look of a man on a mission. The only thing that he was curious about was in what state would Koku’s office be when he walked in? And, more to the point as he knocked on the door, what kind of mood would his boss be in this time?
