God Raph hated mornings. Sure he’d changed and shit, but still the mornings were that time of day when Raph wanted to just lie down and not even go out. Worst part? He had a lot on his plate today for Vigilance. Yep… Today was gonna be one of those days and it made Raph cringe just thinking about what he was in for. He’d seen it yesterday; making the chore lists again, morning training, going over complaints from the recruits, lunch… And that was all he could bear to look at. There was an entire notebook he kept on his bedside table just to see what he’d be doing the next few days, that way he wasn’t surprised when they gave him something and told him to do this or that.
But Raph still had probably an hour to kill before he really NEEDED to be at work, and he felt like getting a good morning walk would probably be a good thing before work. Specially the way that some of those freaking recruits were… He couldn’t blame them, not most of them anyways; they go from the normal life they know, maybe living alone or with their family or even a spouse, to sharing quarters with strangers and going to an almost military like life style. Some of the higher ups, or more powerful ones that had proven themselves, had purchased apartments nearby so that they could have their own place or their spouses could live with them. Several of such apartments had been built up in once big residential areas where other such complexes used to be.
Raph, however, did not live with the rest of the Vigilance recruits/offiers, and instead lived with normal residents. He didn’t like the prospect of living near those he worked with. Most of them were a pain in the ass to just WORK with, and he didn’t want to consider the secret rendezvous’ and annoyances of knowing that “such and such was seen heading into so and so’s apartment last night”. He didn’t care enough to. The normal people didn’t seem to mind too much, though occasionally he’d catch his neighbors giving him weird looks from behind their curtains and he could practically feel his lips pull into a sneer from annoyance.
He was already dressed in his work clothes, though carrying his jacket, and went from his apartment building, waving to the mailman as he went. Nothing for him today, thankfully, he’d already paid the bills so the heaviest hit to his wallet was already done. Nothing on the car. That he’d given to Brian, so it was his brother’s problem now. He wondered how his brother’s antique business was going… He didn’t have time to worry about Brian, though. Raph really wanted to get on his walk, and so started off again, at a brisk and jaunty pace.
He was probably twenty minutes away from his apartment, when he felt a presence, the slightest tinges of an incredible power… And yet he smiled. He knew this power fairly well, he’d felt it several times before and this was an old friend from what felt like a lifetime ago. It was almost like another life that he’d met her before…and another life that had brought them and Dew together in the land of sands… It was sad really. He let his own pressure out, slightly, just to make sure that she knew he was there and wasn’t sneaking up on her.
He couldn’t stop smiling. It was an odd feeling, to find someone whom you felt close to, for the first time in a while. He wondered how she’d changed…and wondered how he himself had changed… What would their meeting be like? Terrifying? Would she attack him? Would she be scared of him, or perhaps angry with him? This what it must’ve felt like to have a second meeting…to be living in a second life…
