Something nagged at Lethas as he flew across the star sprinkled night sky. He knew he had forgotten something...then again, he was always forgetting things. It was easy to push aside the nagging feeling, he had done it countless times before. This one stayed, even after he had thrown it out of his mind. There was just something that gripped him. He couldn’t remember. What he did remember is that he was hungry.
He turned his attention to the city below him and started to sweep with his eyes for a meal. This city was ripe with souls. He did not know where he was, just that his hunger had brought him here. His wings swept along in the night air, silent and swift. He was hunting for his prey. He found prey quite quickly. The city was active in the night, and he had many options to choose.
The lights of the city cast huge shadows as he landed on his first victim, quickly tearing them to shreds without hesitation or a scream. It barely touched his soul before he felt the hunger only grow. He would need more souls. More food. More hunting.
He flew back into the air in search of another. His mind only on food. His thoughts on nothing but eating. The nagging continued to persist on the fringes of his mind as his huge wings kept him aloft. He couldn’t pin down what it was. He normally couldn’t though, but it normally left his mind after he pushed hard enough.
Was he actually remembering something?
Was there a memory actually floating around his head?
He thought that impossible from the memories he had of Maespa. No memories were able to stay within his mind long enough for him to keep it. He had to rely on the memories of the ones he absorbed. Like the man he had just eaten. His memories were short. He had been young. He had a girlfriend and a pet dog. There was nothing useful in his memories. Lethas would probably not see them again.
He forgot about them moments later when he spotted his next target. His mind focused on the hunt, he swooped down and collapsed on the man. He was gone in mere seconds as Lethas devoured him. Blood ran down his beak as he stood up from his meal, still hungry.
He couldn’t remember a time he wasn’t hungry. Though, he couldn’t remember anything.
