Kasumi whimpered, a tiny cloud formed in front of her lips as she exhaled while taking a step back in the crunching snow. By now the white carpet covered the whole block, knee-high and bright, with veins that pulsated silver. At first the cold had gently bitten into her skin, reassuring her, but now she could barely feel her fingers at all. Usually the girl couldn't care less about the temperature, but having spent hours and hours covered in snow while wearing jeans and a shirt had claimed its price. The burning had spread through her limbs, and now the numbness meekly followed. Perhaps that was a good thing, that way she wouldn't feel the cuts and bites that covered her body. With every step she took, the girl left a trace of blood that colored the snow crimson before melting it away. Stumbling to the side she dodged the claws that tried to dig themselves into her side. With a spin she managed to dig her curvy sword into the beast's back. It howled, and she wanted to join the Hollow in its screaming. Her fingers had become stiff and clumsy, she fumbled with the blade, tearing it out of the Hollows flesh as the latter one disintegrated. There were too many of them. Due to her lack of proper judgment Kasumi had lured way more than she could hope to handle. They circled in the snow, they snuck through the streets, cowered in the shadows of the stairs and crawled onto the roofs nearby. The girl knew that they were waiting for her to give up, then they could devour her to fill up their bellies.
Running around the corner Kasumi slipped, her right leg buckled and cold covered her feverish face. She hissed at the bits of skin that were left behind on the pavement beneath the silky snow. Out of the corner of her eye she could see one of the many corpses that ornamented the streets because of her. The one nearby- a woman late in her thirties whose head had been bashed against the ground when Kasumi had been thrown into her side unable to withstand her opponent's raw power.
Humans were fragile.
Kasumi couldn't comprehend that, she had always felt like she was the exception, till now. In her confusion and anger Kasumi had managed to slash through Hollow and human alike. The panic was real, both with the girl and the ones she had succeeded in slaughtering in these filthy alleys. Getting up she barely made it to the stairs before a sharp pain in her thigh brought her body to a halt. With her left fist she slammed into the Hollows head, smearing blood over its forehead in the process. Fiercely its poisonous eyes shot wide open the moment it knew there had been no harm, and it didn't plan to let go. Growling and tugging it dug its teeth deeper into Kasumi, she felt sick now, the pain was too much and tears rolled over her cheeks, freezing right there.
CRACK
Ice broke through the beast's skull, leaving nothing but a deformed jaw and a bleeding socket. There was warm drool seeping over her jeans together with the blood that leaked from the bite that felt like it had gone all the way to the bone. At least she could use her right arm again. If you could call the ice prosthesis a limb. Not that Kasumi cared what others viewed it as. Pumping some energy in it, Kasumi watched the broken icicles she used as fingers reform. Perhaps losing limbs wasn't all that bad. If the other arm got torn off, or frozen off in this case, she might be able to do the same with it as with her right one. It made it so much stronger.
Kicking the Hollow to the ground she watched it land on its side. A click and Kasumi was forced to turn her head, just in time to be blinded by a flashlight. Shielding her eyes from the sudden light she peered at the source with an angry look on her face. It was a cop! What was he-?
Worthless and weak- that's what the Snake would have labeled him as. Silvery threads shot through the snow, coming from beneath Kasumi's feet and dashing towards the stranger. A mix of fear, confusion and disgust formed a mask on the man's face. He had somewhat dropped the flashlight, staring at the kid with the white hair barely ten yard away. Though he wouldn't be looking at her for long. The silvery roots reached him mere seconds later, forming a layer of ice on his legs, hips and finally swallowing him up. He looked like a statue. Was he alive somewhere beneath the ice? Was he in shock? She didn't have the time to question what she had just done because the Hollows were already moving in for a new assault. One of them took it upon him to make the first move, however, Kasumi wasn't his victim. Brown sticky fur could be seen when the partly humanoid creature jumped the frozen cop pushing it into the knee-high snow before tearing out a piece of his shoulder. Even if he was still alive, he wouldn't be for long with the fangs ripping into his body.
There were more human corpses, and the little human hoped to use them as some sort of distraction. Nobody here mattered. None of them had been her friend, her family. The handful of those she cared about were god only knew where. She was all alone, like she had been at the start. Perhaps nothing had really changed. Chances were high she had simply imagined the bonds that had been formed. There had never been proof of them being real, being anything aside from words. She had been delusional all of this time.
After her encounter with The Hebi, Kasumi's view on life had shifted. Licking the blood from her lips she waded through the snow stepping on a pile of bloody human remains.
Blood was slippery. Whether it was frozen or not, it was still treacherous.
Like Snakes
Energy pumped through her veins. Some parts of her body reacted and silvery threads formed around her body. This was her Hebi – not the God, this had nothing to do with Gods. Maybe with Deathgods? But were they really gods? - The question's ghostly touch lingered at the base of her skull when she lashed out with pure energy. It burned through the wicked creature that tried to take a bit out of her shoulder and crashed through the apartment wall on her right. Human screams were coming from inside the building. There was a lot of screaming going on tonight. The howls filled the air, threatening to suffocate those who entered this chaos.
