We hesitated to take people on during rules rewrites, then this, because our energies would not be adequately focused getting people up to speed in the role of intern. it is most certainly a thing. Sorry for the delays!
I wish to throw my name into the mix. For a myriad of reasons, which I could elaborate on, but the foremost being the opportunity to learn more of the site. Granted I'm new to this site, and don't expect to be placed on staff, but that's not to say I'm inexperienced in the roll and rules of conduct.

So, just coming to everyone here as a courtesy. We're about to grab multiple interns! However, I don't want anyone on this list to be under the impression that (unless you're already on the top of the list) it will be a-few-to-several months before your opportunity presents. You're under no obligation to hop aboard if you change you mind 4 months from now, and we'll certainly be asking you directly when it's time.
Just thought I would make a clear statement, given recent additions to the list.

Quick update! We're ending this run just a little bit early - there has been extremely minimal requests in the last two months and now that the school year is underway we're back down to a much more reasonable rate of apps, so there's been less stuff to show in that regard as well.
And to set the record straight here, I feel it's worth clarifying that we might have set some improper expectations:
Rules are an easy thing to read. We have simple standards and operating procedures for things that can be breezed through in barely an hour, if even. What the internship program is intended to do, is to let your roll up your sleeves and see how that knowledge applies, how we do what we do. Just how it is we arrive at those mystical numbers and 'Yes' and 'No' votes. Naturally, this means you have to be complicit in your own learning and involvement. Your involvement and enthusiasm for the process is a very important part of any success.
I'll re-do the OP to clarify a couple things and try to get a handle on who is up next. We've had a few names shuffle around and come and go.
