Race: Spiritually Aware Human Last Name: Black First Name: Melody Middle Name: Gabrielle Date of Birth: 21st November 1994 Place of Birth: San Diego, California Age / Apparent Age:[/color] 21 Location: San Diego, California -> Karakura Town, Japan Zodiac: Scorpio Gender: female Sexuality: questioning Dominant Hand: right handed Height & Weight: 160.5 cm (5ft 3in) & 47 kg (103.62 lbs) Hair & Eyes: platinum blonde hair & sky blue eyes
Physical Description: Melody is a fragile young adult, trapped in the body of a fifteen year old, in a non literal sense. Her slightly less than average height and lower than recommended weight were mostly because of the health issues she used to experience as a child. Her skin is unnaturally pale, mostly due to her anemia, it's also cold to the touch. Her figure is slim with just the slightest curves for her hips and chest. Melody's blonde waves reach her thighs, she sometimes ties it in a bun or a ponytail. The tresses require a lot of maintenance and she often thought about cutting her hair short. Her fringe covers the only scar on her body, a small pink scar starting just above her left eyebrow and disappearing in her hairline. This scar is the only reminder of the accident on the day of her birth and the first encounter with supernatural. Saying her eyes were blue, was like saying the sun is warm. True, but not sufficient. The ice colored eyes hold the warmth of a thousand burning stars. The only blue-eyed offspring from both the Black and Von Brandt family. Her eyes are large and round, covered by long, thick, curly lashes. Her nose is short and narrow, a bit turned up. Her mouth is small with thin lips, the upper one more than the lower, and a defined cupid's bow. Her soft, dimpled, slightly chubby cheeks are covered with a barely noticeable blush, often darkened in moments of embarrassment. Her voice is usually modulated, it's controlled and pleasant to listen to. In the occasion when she loses her composure it gets either high-pitched and squeaky or low and quiet, accompanied by a small stutter. Melody smells like vanilla and oranges, her two favorite smells. The scent of vanilla comes from the shower gel she uses most often, it was also a favorite of her mother, so she still tries to use it, if only to remember the woman by smell. She likes the smell of oranges because to her, they symbolize change. More specifically, her change, as she never liked oranges and now, the fruit's near the top of her favorites list. The smell comes from her shampoo, which she uses every second day. Her movements are short and precise, yet slow, almost elegant. She holds her head high, her back and shoulders straight, mementos of her strict upbringing. Although the girl tries to change these aspects of herself, the lessons were beaten into her bones. Melody has no sense for fashion, she couldn't care less about what's in and what's not. She wears simple and comfortable clothing, mostly jeans and shirts with random prints. She doesn't really like to 'dress up', but will do it if it's necessary. Her usual attire consists of high top sneakers, dark jeans and any kind of a top, worn in a most casual style. For formal events she wears a dark dress and black flats, her hair braided. Melody refuses to wear any kind of jewelry.
Spiritual Description: The air around her is soothing, her unthreatening attitude is reflected in the foggy cloud surrounding her very being. Just like the gray clouds, she too can be unpredictable. Her aura changes from a peaceful snow cloud to a thunderstorm in a matter of seconds, the change's never evident on her face. Aura: white, mostly Purpose of life: to succeed in life Words that describe white: naive, innocent, neutral, shy, serious, stubborn, ethical, honest, self-important
Personality: She was a dependent child, dependent of familiarity, she stuck to her mother and what she knew. She loved her father too, but the man rarely showed any emotion on his face, so she feared him. By the time she was ten, she got used to it. She never really fit in, with the kids in school, or her father's associate's children. She was well-mannered, calm and quiet, considered a gem among socialites. In reality, she was shy so she kept to herself, she tried pleasing her father by playing the perfect doll. When her mother passed, she easily accepted death as something inevitable, but not necessarily final. The whole concept of what happens after death was still something her childish mind accepted from books. After death, your body stays behind, but your ghost moves on, depending on the life you led, to either heaven or hell. She wasn't sure what religion to believe, but she did believe in the concept of moving on. Melody's whole being is based on forgiving and protecting, she puts other's emotions before her own. She is open to others, but at the same time incredibly closed off. Showing only the good, but keeping the bad to herself, until the lid falls off and everything pours out. Melody is, most of the time, calm. She tries to stay out of conflict and is on good terms with most of the people she comes across. She tries her best to give off the vibes of a relaxed and comforting person. She tries to avoid conflict, but is not afraid to stand up for herself or for the sake of others. She is unsure, never knowing what it is she really wanted for herself, so she takes from what she sees. With her mother, all she wanted was to be the best daughter to her family. For her father, she tried her best at school and even started college. There she tried to avoid the people, mostly because their goals would influence her, and her father wouldn't approve. She would've gone on like this for the rest of her life, but the lid moved and something slipped out and the next thing she knew, she was packing her bags. Having a fresh start, away from the most influential people in her life, she will try to find her own way.
Positive Qualities: - Forgiving
Forgiving, it is Melody's defining trait. No matter what, she will forgive everything to everyone. It could also be her flaw, but without this trait, she would not be herself, it's both a blessing and a curse. "It's alright, the times are hard on everyone. Next time, just ask for help."
There was a knife on the ground between them, she was still staring at her distorted reflection. "Let him go." Her voice was quiet, but she knew he could hear her. There was nothing but the sound of choking as one man pinned the other to the ground. "I'm alright, there's no harm done, just let him go." She sighs, moving closer and pushing her boss off. She takes the knife, just in case, and allows the other man to pull himself together. "I'm sorry, are you alright?" There are tears rolling down the side of his face and she can see the defeat there, she lays one hand on his shoulder, comforting the man who just tried to rob her. "It's alright, I won't call the police, just go home."
- Friendly & Helpful
Although she'll never make the first move, Melody is a very open and friendly person. She will try her best to make people relax in her presence and soothe their troubled minds. If it's within her power, she will help immediately. Not being able to help makes her feel guilty. "That sounds awful, I wish I could do something. Find me again, and I'll do my best to help."
Having just arrived at the location, she waits for the men to unpack the boxes before sending them all off with a wave and a smile. The old man, their boss, is the last one and as he enters his truck, Melody knocks on the glass, catching his attention at the last moment. He rolls the window down and she offers him a friendly hand shake. "Thank you for everything, you've been a lot of help." She slips a roll into his hand, quickly stepping back before he has a chance to return it. "I heard the others talking, and don't worry, this is just a tip from a satisfied customer." The old man grumbles something about silly children before giving the girl a grateful smile.
- Protective & Kind
Melody cares for people, if she fears someone's safety, no matter if it's someone who can protect themselves or someone physically weak, she will step up and defend them. She takes it as her responsibility. "Now listen here, you! It's not nice to..."
Covering the child with her own body proved to be quite difficult, especially since the child was as tall as her. The monstrous cat-like creature jumped from side to side, trying to reach the boy, but Melody would just jump in the way. They played this game for a while now, and slowly, Melody was getting tired. The foul beast used the opportunity to jump the child and before she knew it, a bright light enveloped her hand and the beast was off, running away. She turned to the boy and patted his brown locks. "See? I kept my promise, now it's time to keep yours." "But I'm scared." "Don't worry, it might be scary at first, but you'll be fine." She smiled gently at the boy and pulled him into her chest, she closed her eyes but she could still see the light. When she next opened them, she was alone again.
- Understanding & Considerate
Although the girl may not have the same terrible experiences as the rest of the world, she is aware of the cruelty out there. She tries to help others as much as she can, and when they do not wish to accept her help, Melody tries to think of a way to help them anyway, even if it needs to be sneaky. "Don't worry, although I may not look like it, I understand you completely."
]Having just arrived at the location, she waits for the men to unpack the boxes before sending them all off with a wave and a smile. The old man, their boss, is the last one to leave, and as he enters his truck, Melody knocks on the glass, catching his attention at the last moment. He rolls the window down and she offers him a friendly hand shake. "Thank you, for everything, you've been a lot of help." She gently closed his fingers around a small bundle and pushed his large, calloused hands away. "Mister, I know it's been hard for you and your wife, please accept this." She smiled brightly and moved back a few steps. "I heard the others talking, and you know, it's not pity-money, you earned it." The old man grumbles at first, something about silly children, before giving the girl a grateful smile.
Negative Qualities: - Aimless
She was always surrounded by people who knew what they wanted and when they wanted it, people who fought tooth and nail to get whatever it is they wanted. She admired those people greatly, for she herself never knew what to do with her life. She didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up, never knew what she was best at. She found a simple job and leads a simple life, but she knows that's not all there is to living...she just has to find that something. "I guess I still need to find my purpose, maybe then I'll be at peace."
She turns her paper over, hoping no one would notice, but soon enough she's called to the adviser's office for a chat. Sitting in the uncomfortable chair, she listens to the woman go on and on about possibilities, excited just like a small child waiting for dessert. Finally the woman turns to her, eyes sparkling dangerously and she asks the dreaded question. "What do you want to be?"
- Gullible
Being a trusting person, she was oh so often easily deceived. She tried so hard not to 'let someone into her apartment because they don't have their phone and they car broke' or 'lend someone money because it's an emergency and they'll return it the next day', she really did. Most of the time, her neighbor or boss would intervene just in time, and save her from whatever was to come. "H-he'll never be seen again, will he?"
She's making the tea, enjoying the sweet scent of camomile, she almost forgets there's a guest waiting for her. Finally, she lowers the cups onto the tray and leaves the kitchen, yet, when she enters the room, there's no one there. Lowering the tray on the coffee table and glancing around, she finally realizes what happened when there's a certain device missing. "Oh well, it's not like a watch the TV anyway."
- Ignorant
Not that she lacks the education, it's just that she doesn't give a damn, really. Who's the president? Nope, doesn't know, doesn't care. "Karma is a...nothing, she's nothing.
Throwing the broken umbrella into the bin, she tries to dry her hair of as much as possible, already thinking about the warm, but most importantly dry, clothes in the locker. Once she's somewhat satisfied, she ties her hair and makes her way to the locker. Opening the door, she barely catches the small hand mirror before it breaks like the one last night. "That was too close, I could never deal with fourteen years of bad luck."
- Meddlesome
Jumping to conclusions and meddling in other people's affairs is something she'll never regret. Most of the time her instincts are right and her intrusion stops things from escalating from abusive words to outright violence. "I will not hesitate to call the security, now either eat your food or get out!"
She's been listening to the two arguing for over an hour, and yet, they were no where near ending the debate. She's keeping herself busy while minding the other guest, washing the dirty cups and chatting with the professors. "Alright, enough. Either solve this like civilized people or get out." She separates the two, pushing them away from each other.
- Paranoid
Don't get her wrong, Melody trusts people, she trusts what they're saying and she'd probably trust them with her life. What she doesn't trust them with is her thoughts, her feelings. She fears their reaction, their way of seeing her. What if she scares them away? What if they think of her as crazy? "I-I'm fine, yes, p-perfectly fine. Why?"
She's delirious, her head's spinning and she can't move her body, it's too heavy. "Can you tell me what hurts?" She hears a rather loud voice from her side, and she winces. "N-nothing." She replies, struggling against the restraints. "I..I am fine." They can never know.
- Reckless
Her strong will to help and protect leads her to troublesome situations. In a lot of these cases she ended up having to be rescued as well. "Thanks for that, sorry for troubling you."
She winces as the medic sprays something on her cut up elbow, all the while ignoring the glare her boss has been giving her ever since the accident. After refusing to go to the hospital for the 7th time, she was finally released to his care. "You know, you both could've died." She nods in response. "So why did you do it?" Patting the small puppy she risked her life for, she smiles at her boss. "I'd rather we die together than for him to die alone."
- Weak
"It's not something I can overcome, it's a part of me...and I hate it."
Her whole body was heavier, it was too hard to breath and for the love of everything holy, she could not focus her eyes on anything. Her heart rebelled against its confines. The next time she opened her eyes, the sun had moved a bit lower on the bright sky, the blue tones turned to purple, and red, and pink. She looked around, thankfully, no one noticed her. Dark waves took her under and she hated it, she hated being weak.
- Self-depreciating
She doubts herself at every turn, she can't take compliments and just can't see herself as important, even though she strives for it. "I-it was nothing, I wish I was of more use though."
Witnessing someone else take her side, stand by her, she was overcome with guilt. How could this person not see their mistake? "Please, don't." They continue, fighting her for her own good, if necessary. "I'm not worth it." Maybe one day I will be.
Goals:
- to be a person her mother would've been proud of - to live her life out by her own rules - to find her way
Fears:
- Bugs - She is not as scared of bugs as she's disgusted by them. The many different ways these creatures adapt to their environment, their survival skill scare her. - Trees - The fear of trees, dendrophobia. Melody always found it weird how her chest tightened at the sight of the tall plants, yet she'd always go willingly to the park. The surrounding giving her a panic attack, but also calming her to the core of her being. The degree of her fear was low, she'd only ever panic if there was a strong wind or a storm. Fearing the tree would fall and crush her or someone else, she'd avoid parks and any streets in these situations. - Hospitals (having her blood taken) - It wasn't that painful really, nor was it that she feared they'd take all her blood, no. It was irrational and confusing, her whole body would stiffen and then melt, like it couldn't decide what to do with itself. She'd take deep breaths and tell herself how it was alright, yet, the moment the nurse took a clean needle out of its packaging, she'd freak out and cry. Ten minutes later, she'd wipe her tears, apologize to the nurse and everyone who witnessed this, and she'd try her best never to have to come back. She hated this fear of hers, above all else.
Habits:
- In her free time, if she wasn't sleeping or just relaxing somewhere outside, Melody would often draw. She'd draw from people to scenery, to silly sketches. - It was a bad habit and she knew it, yet she couldn't help it. Eyes were truly the windows to the soul, and looking at something so deep, personal, she just felt undeserving of witnessing something so pure. Allowing someone to look into her deepest thoughts, feelings, fears... One's soul is the purest version of them, so to her, to allow someone to look into her it brought a whole new level of intimacy. This is the reason why she avoids eye contact for too long. - When she's struggling with what to say, or she's just nervous, she'd often bite her lower lip and chew on it.
Dislikes:
- Hospitals - She dislikes hospitals because she used to, and still does, have health issues. She both hates and fears the tests she's usually subjected to, so she mostly avoids hospitals. - Being questioned - If there's anything Melody dislikes about other people, it's when they question her. She's not a completely honest person, though she usually tries her best to answer truthfully. She refuses to answer any questions touching the subject of her inner self and may only answer those if she's startled or confused. - Noise - Melody dislikes loud noise, the sound of traffic or construction work, thunder, yelling...
Likes:
- The Outdoors - Melody likes spending her time outside in the shade of a tree, just listening to the birds chirping. She likes calm surroundings, and parks and woods are usually relaxing. - Light - She associates peace with light, so she surrounds herself with light colors, light sounds, etc. - Water - Melody likes any body of water, as a child she loved jumping into puddles. She finds waterfalls breathtaking, rivers soothing, she associates oceans with opportunities. Rain calms her and water, as a drink, is refreshing.
Favorite Color:
WHITE - White is associated with light, goodness, innocence and purity. It is considered to be the color of perfection. White symbolizes safety, purity and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white depicts faith and purity.
Power: The power only she holds, as far as she knows, allows Melody to control blood, or rather, it's density, shape and form. Now this may sound like a perfect power for world domination or something similar, but her power also has it's limits. In the beginning, she barely feels anything, she just thinks hard about moving the blood, guiding it with her hand, and the liquid follows. Her first creations would require her to picture the object she's trying to shape and guide the blood, moving her hands to form the object's silhouette. While later, after getting more used to her power, she can form the object with just her thoughts. With training, she learns how to feel blood. Developing something of a sixth sense for the liquid, there's a pull in her mind letting her know there's blood she could use. With further use of the skill, and training, she could develop this sense to pinpoint multiple sources and feel out the distance. Using her power more and more, she learns there is a certain range in which her power works. At first, she has to touch the blood, but soon enough, the droplets just out of her reach react as well, and with her growth, so does the range grow. Some limits can be pushed, while others can not. Except the range limit, blood bending has some other limits and/or rather requirements that need to be met for the blood to be controllable. The first requirement, that could be pushed by further training, is for the blood to be Melody's own, though later, she can control anyone or anything's blood. The second requirement, or in this case limit, is for the blood to leave the body in an unnatural way. The power's development depends on Melody's focus. With her focusing on protecting the people around her, she further develops her offensive/defensive power. While focusing on helping, she'd be able to unlock her healing power. The mortal doesn't find her power useful, though she can see the beauty in it. Her power requires concentration, but also a great deal of imagination. It's only natural that someone who harms themselves on the inside, develops a power that requires them to be hurt on the outside as well. The forms, object she shapes are usually just blades, most of these inspired by various objects she's seen at the conventions held in her hometown. The only limit, to what she can form, is her imagination.

History: Melody Gabrielle Black was born on Monday morning; 04:48AM, 21st November 1994. The first and only child to Nicole Black (nee Von Brandt) and Anthony Black. The child was born three weeks overdue, after Nicole got in a car accident. The car accident, caused by a hollow, left marks on both mother and child; four claw marks on Nicole's stomach and a long scar running from Melody's forehead to the top of her head, which she hides with her bangs.
Melody was a sickly and weak child, she spent most of her time either learning how to be, what her father deemed, a good and well-behaved child or being tested on in hospitals, which led to her fear of needles and dislike of hospitals. However, if asked, Melody would say her childhood was wonderful. Nicole was a kind and caring mother, and the two were inseperable. Even after starting school the child's one and only friend was her mother.
Although the child wasn't aware of her mother's sickness, her death didn't affect her as much as her father. The child was sad, of course, but she moved on, just like her mother would've wanted. What shocked the child was the open hostility shown to her by her father, which caused her to close off and pretend everything was fine. The first mask she wore was painted by her father.
Two months later Melody had her, what she thought to be, first encounter with the spirit world. It wasn't anything flashy, there were no white wings and golden halos, no angel choir. It was just her mother wearing her favorite clothes, sitting on her bed. The first thing the young teen noticed was a chain protruding from her mother's chest followed by a light tingle on her wrist as the chain connected to her. Melody went back to spending time with her mother, most of the time staying in her room or in secluded spots in the local park. Having her mother all to herself made her happier again, her grades got better than normal, she would smile more often and even enjoy her father's social gatherings. She was slowly openning to people, her shyness disappearing as did the chain connecting the two. Her mother would demand she returns home sooner, that she doesn't spend too much time among people. The spirit grew obsessed, yet the girl didn't mind.
It was nine months later, in February, that things got stranger. The school she attended organized a field trip for its students, a field trip to Arizona. Melody was beyond excited, it was her first time leaving the town she was born and raised in. The world outside her hometown was amazing and left her breathless. What wasn't as amazing was the time she got separated from her group and met two very different siblings. The older one, Chayton - as his sister introduced him, was rather rude and his glares reminded Melody of Tony and his harsh treatment. Angeni, on the other hand, reminded her of the mute spirit following her around. She would've confused the slightly older teen for her mother, hadn't she looked phyisically different. With Angeni's directions, Melody and her mother made their way back, only to be stopped by a monstrous looking cat. The beast showed little to no interest in Melody, it smacked her away with it's giant claw like a ragdoll and lurched straight at her mother. Laying in a pool of her own blood, watching her mother being chased down a monster while helplessly 'standing' to the side, woke up her own powers. White hot rage filled her whole being and before she knew it, she was standing in front of the beast, a blade imbedded halfway into its mouth. The white mask broke in two and the cat's body dispersed into dust. Melody fell back against a tree, the blade in her hand liquefied and dropped on the grass like crimson rain. She later woke up to two familiar faces, resting up and spending the time learning how to send the spirits of the dead to the afterlife.
Two days later, Melody said her final farewell to her mother and sent the spirit away. The next four years she spent her days studying for high school or relaxing in the local park. She wouldn't really encounter any spirits nor monsters, and she prefered it that way. She religiously followed the path her father made for her, straying from it only once before the stones crumbled. Her first rebelius act, as her father called it, was when she found a job in a local cafe. The relationship detorriated even further than it seemed possible, only thanks to Grace, her father's new lover, had the two survived in the same household. Melody finally snapped when she found a letter from her mother, hidden in her father's study. Melody dropped out of college the same day and from then on kept spending more and more time at the cafe or at Grace's. She informed her father she'd be leaving on her 20th birthday, to which the man replied with a grunt and a glare. She only knew one place she had to visit, as for the rest, she'll think of it as it comes.
Anthony Black was the only son to Allison Dufort and Charles Black, he was born on the 1st of April 1972, in Manchester, UK. His family moved to San Diego the same year. Anthony is a tall black haired, brown eyes prodigy. He married Nicole Von Brandt, his childhood friend, on the 1st of March. Both of Tony's parents were ambitious people with their job on the first place, family second. After Nicole's death, Tony throws himself more into work, where he later finds a second flame, Grace Parker. The two 'get together' in 2012, with Tony proposing to Grace in 2014 and the two setting the date in Summer 2015.
Nicole Black (nee Von Brandt):
Nicole Von Brandt, born on 11th August 1972, to Iris Iordanou and Theodore Von Brandt, she was the second child. Matthew Von Brandt, born on 6th September 1969, being the first. The Von Brandt family lived in San Diego for most of their lives, they quickly befriended the newly moved Blacks. The family had an estate in Germany, where Theodore's parents, Ima and Stephan Von Brandt (Ima and Stephan were both quincies, though their son, Theo, didn't inherit any of their abilities and had no connection to the spirit world), used to reside. The Von Brandts, ironically, died in a fire back in 1978, all save the youngest, Nicole. The brunette was raised by the family's then close friends, Allison and Charles Black. She got married to the couple's son, Tony, in 1992, and gave birth to a girl in 1994. She died 13 years later from natural causes.

She was awake for a long time now, she just couldn't be bothered with opening her eyes. He's angry. She could hear him stomping through the house, but he'd never dare come confront her, how could he? He was a weak man. I wonder what time it is? She kept her breathing even, as if she was still asleep. Just in case he sent someone to check up on her... Wouldn't be the first time. After doing her morning routine as quietly as possible, she took a deep breath and slowly descended down the stairs. "Father." She bows her head slightly in greeting, he doesn't return it. Never did, never will. "Finally up, are we, little missy?" His voice is dripping with venom, she ignores it. The pain she felt in her heart didn't show on her face. She makes her way to the table and yawns as she sits in her seat. "Morning, Grace." The brunette turns to her with a smile, her green eyes sparkling. "Hey, Mel, you slept well?" She realizes her words rhyme and she giggles to herself. "Yes, you?" "Yes, the most rest I got in the last two weeks." She's glowing. Melody notices her father sitting at the head of the table, Grace serves the both tea and toast, then takes her seat across from Melody. The kitchen is silent, except for the sound of the clock on the wall. Finishing her meal, Melody picks up the plates and mugs, washes the dishes and leaves the two lovers to themselves. Taking one last look at the plain room, Melody sighs and closes the door. She pulls on a jacket and throws a backpack over her shoulder, her eyes scan the hallway and land on a family picture, there's dust on the edges. Rummaging through the backpack, she pulls out a clean tissue and wipes the frame, smiling to herself once she's satisfied. "Melody." Tony grunts from behind her and she stops in her tracks, turning her questioning gaze at him. Grace is holding his hand now, and he seems nervous. "Yes, father?" Her head tilts to the side and her blond waves cascade over her shoulder. The two exchange a look, Grace's is hard and determined. Her father acts like a lost puppy. There are dark circles around his eyes, he looks so much older than he actually is. He takes a deep breath and opens his mouth; nothing comes out. It's silent in the hallway, except for the sound of Grace's foot tapping on the floor. "Grace, can you give us a minute?" Grace looks surprised, but nods and leaves the two. Melody closes the distance between them and throws her hands around his neck, ignoring the dark, twisted thought in her head. "I'm-" The man is at a loss, for the first time. She smiles against his collar, her glazed eyes brighten. "I know dad, I forgive you." She leaves the old man dumbfounded as she closes the door behind her. The storm inside her passed, and all she sees is the clear sky above her.
