Despite being in class for only a short while, Miyuki had melted pretty well into the crowd. There had been a few whispers about the strange student who was only taking history and miscellaneous classes, but other than that she was largely accepted by her classmates. Well, if passing conversations and a few nods counted as being accepted.
Sure, Miyuki was a bright and friendly girl, but the stress of being uprooted and planted into this spiritual world… Well… It was surely enough to get to anyone. It sure had gotten to Kasumi.
Anyway.
Miyuki was sitting in one of her first classes of the day, a simple history class that typically went without anything worth mentioning happening. A rather dull class that consisted of a ton of note taking and a few quizzes here and there. To be fair, most of her classes were like that since she wasn’t taking most of the combat related classes.
So, while she enjoyed learning and the school environment, to say the teacher had her undivided attention would be an understatement. Instead, her eyes gazed out the window, staring at the dim reflection that stared at her with uninterested eyes. Did she look more mature now that she was a soul? Was her hair a little longer? It was hard to tell.
“Wakahisa Miyuki?”
She blinked and turned her eyes to her teacher, giving him a confused stare before he gestured her attention towards the door.
Standing there was a nondescript man staring her down with a half friend, half formal expression. He only gave a polite nod before speaking once again.
“The captain of the Second Division, Chinda Kiriko, would like to have a word with you.”
The… Captain? Was that Hi-To’s Captain? The one who had ordered him to bring her here in the first place?
The girl blinked a few times before gathering her things and making her way towards the exit. Curious stares from her fellow students followed every step she made and, once she was far enough away, whispers darted between the most interested of the students. Even the teacher, old and wisened, seemed shocked by the intrusion.
If she didn’t know any better, she would have thought this Captain was some sort of maniac.
Nevertheless, she held her head high as she approached the Shinigami, smiled, and then followed him down the hallway and towards the exit. The walk to the Captain’s quarters was a silent, awkward one. Not because lack of effort on her part—Miyuki had tried every small talk trick she knew!—but because the Shinigami seemed to be just as in the dark as she was. Or maybe he was just awful at social ques.
Eventually, she made her way to the room and, after a brief good bye to her guide, turned her head to the door. Did she knock? Did she wait?
Miyuki pushed the door open with a quick knock.
“Captain?” She called as she poked her head through the door. “You wanted to see me?”
