If there was a place that was hard to navigate, it was for certain that Hueco Mundo was a good go to for that choice. No landmarks, towns, or people you could stop and ask directions: except for the ever looming Las Noches. Those who would talk would rather kill him, and it’s not like any Hollow-breeds had any permanent place of residence.
But nonetheless, he had been given directions out of some poor Hollows who hadn’t enjoyed his Zanpakuto in its gut. Apparently an Arrancar; Yuki, The Lioness of Hueco Mundo, could tell him to find a certain Espada. So of course he had set right off for the place where she could regularly be found, which of course could only be vaguely understood by the foreign shinigami. He was looking for a tree “under the moon”, which didn’t really mean much to him, because even though there were few trees in Hueco Mundo, he thought they were all technically under its moon. Black, red, and blue hair, red feline eyes, and accompanied by a lion: it was all the description he was given. It wasn’t nearly enough, but it would have to do since all his other options were unyielding. He had an ebbing feeling that by “lion”, they had meant something else, but he would have to find out on his own.
How many trees had it been now?
They were all dead, like the entire world they occupied. Every single one, so lonely in the pale desolate landscape. Although there were small tribes, as he would call them, most of the occupants were loners and lived for themselves, just like he had been taught in the Academy.
He had no idea if he was about to walk into a fight or not, he hoped the latter since from what little he had been told, she might be one of the more reasonable Arrancar. Either way, from his experience he found that honey always caught more flies than vinegar, even though shit trumped both.
After hours of banter between him and Sabi Shokan, which was neither engaging nor unpleasant, he finally found the tree which he thought might be the one he was supposed to find. It was huge, easily seen from some distance away, and was surprisingly full in girth, standing out compared to the withering or already dead one’s he had seen so many times before.
I get why she sticks around it now.
There was a surprisingly large presence of Hollows in the immediate vicinity, but as he raced closer to the tree, it diminished. It didn’t bode well for his desire to talk it out. But maybe some privacy, even though there was plenty of that in Hueco Mundo, would aid in the diplomacy.
As he approached he could see a lone being under the tree, an Arrancar from what he could tell due to its more humanoid than alien form: a female physique once he got closer. She was as described; the hair, location, and eyes. It was eerie how the eyes were so piercing that he could tell their deformed nature from a distance. He made no attempts to hide his presence, doubting he could go on unnoticed even if he wanted to.
“The Lioness of Hueco Mundo! Hile.” His hand rested on his pommel, prepared for whatever reaction she would offer. “I would talk if you would oblige. I’m Hanbei Karatsu, the wandering shinigami that you might have heard of recently. Does the name Ipos ring a bell at all?” He scrutinized her face for her reaction to the name, it would tell exactly how their encounter would proceed.
He had finally found his prey.
Or had the prey approached the hunter?
