Hello guys!
We're going to test something related to site performance and, to get the results, will need to disable the Shoutbox. Probably just for a day or two!
Of course, I don't want to leave our Mobile users without an option!
In the mean time I strongly recommend that our mobile users check out our new IRC Channel. It's embedded right into our webpage at that location, allows private chatting, and a whole host of other features. You can even download an IRC client for your phone to connect directly to the chatroom, outside of the the web page itself.
If, like me, you're not intimately familiar with IRC, that's okay! Visit the channel and ever-helpful members like Ine and Kyousuke can explain to you anything you need to know to use it. It's very lightweight, very fast, and very reliable. It also costs you nothing to use, even when you download an IRC application for your phone!
Thanks for bearing with us! I'll probably disable the Shoutbox tomorrow evening.
what is IRC? Safe to assume it's some sort of chat protocol
why is it being used? "[It] allows private chatting, and a whole host of other features. You can even download an IRC client for your phone to connect directly to the chatroom, outside of the the web page itself."
why is it not connected to the home page... ???
what is needed to use this IRC thing a mouse that can click links, apparently

Once we settle on IRC as the primary chat medium, which we'll do if more people use it and continue to be happy with it, what we'll do is add it to the navigation bar.
By Navigation Bar, what I mean is the list of buttons along the top of web page. It'll appear after "Quicklook" and be called "Chat". All you'll have to do is click on that and bam, you're there! So that'll get it on the main page for you, Shiro.
Naturally I didn't want to add it to the main page yet because we haven't settled on it quite yet.
