do we just get them without requests or what exactly is the story because it seems people just get them any which way
I was under the impression they were special and that having one was the result of some serious in-character work and an official request but apparently this isn't the case???

There are "Titles", such a The Swordbreaker, and Flash God. And then there are 'titles' such as Tercera Espada, and Captain of the 3rd. The former continue to be a rarefied instance of special requests requiring serious, in character work to achieve. The latter do not require anymore of a request or notification beyond simply referencing a place where the promotion/rank can be confirmed.
Why exactly do we do the latter? Also why do minor races get the particular flavor of their minor race as a custom title? Wouldn't it be more prudent to have that as something more akin to a stat field?
Just feels like we're taking this cool thing and cheapening it for the benefit of people who have done literally nothing to earn it

Can the field be distinguished by race? Or can we have a hide/show based on user group or something similar? Obviously a Variant's origin isn't the same thing as a 'rank', so preserving that distinction is what I am asking about.
I can easily set up separate fields for race and rank but "race" really only applies to minor race characters, and there no real hierarchy to get a rank in for those characters, just as all the races that actually have hierarchies have no need for race specification

I actually agree, and would like to embrace titles as a thing depending on what we intend to do with them. Is it meant as a sort of hidden achievement of greatness or an open goal to be worked towards?
oh look, Toki's title is gone again. that was quick
is the whole variant specification thing even necessary? personally I don't see anyone going "oh, a SPIRITUALIST/REBORN SOUL/SPIRITUALLY AWARE/WHATEVER? NOW I know exactly what you are!" it clashes with all kinds of things, either with custom titles or actual IC titles since even variants sometimes end up as espada ect. can't they just put it into their app and we can get over that? it's easier on the eye, doesn't mess up the sidebar and if you really care so much about that variant you're going to end up on their app anyways. and spiritualist, for example, sounds better than "the variety package" or whatever the template says xD
on a different note, what about those IC titles like espada, captain and lt? is LT even a thing? if yes, what about people with robert, who are an espadatenant aka both? xD
this ain't for the best my reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me we can't make any promises now, can we, babe?
My vision is as follows: the custom title field (located directly beneath the name in the sidebar) is reserved for sobriquets and sobriquets only--nicknames such as Swordbreaker, Spellbreaker, Flash God, Raven, all fall under this category and are earned via in-character activity. The characters in question are just as readily referred to as their aliases as they are their actual names as a part of in-character conversation. These are requested as they have always been.
Using myself as an example: people referred (and still do, I suppose) to Kyousuke not only as Kyousuke Tsukimiya but also as The Swordbreaker. Same with Kenshou and Flash God.
The new Rank-Race field is a field that requires no special effort to fill--it contains simply what the character is. For minor race characters, it contains the specific flavor of their race (e.g. Fullbringer, Vampire, etc). For characters whose racial identity is much less fluid (ahahhahaha), the field contains their in-character rank, if applicable (limited to ranks that actually matter, i.e. lieutenant-level or higher). Examples include Captain of the Second, Lieutenant of the Fourth, Cuatro Espada, King of the Quincy, etc.
Transcendentals may wish to have their former names in the field, I dunno
Any comments on the presentation of it as it currently stands?
edit >both an espada and a lieutenant >the second of two lieutenants
hahahaha that barely counts as an officer at all tbqh
