The desert was cold and vast but not dead, its life hidden away under the surface and gathered into small ruled communes…or huddled together in ones and twos somewhere across its sometimes rocky expanse. Out here only personal power could be relied upon and allegiance was a fickle thing indeed. Not that it could not be earned, but it was far less natural for Hollow than it was for even Arrancar. Those who did earn it were always powerful all on their own. High powered Adjuchas or Vasto Lorde who commanded their own swathes of territory. Not that there were many of the latter, maybe just a handful at any given time. The boundary that allowed a soul to evolve and become Vasto Lorde was not so easily crossed, and they immediately became targets for consumption by anyone who wanted the power of their soul.
But for those that lived, the sands were their territory, and they were the apex hunters.
Takua hadn’t ever abused the natural leadership that seemed to come with the status of being on par with a Vasto Lorde. But for what he was about to do, he needed a large number of weaker attackers. Shinigami were too risky in case they called for backup. Humans weren’t an option in the first place unless he asked the Vigilance for a favor. That left Hollows, and so long as he wasn’t going to kill them, they shouldn’t mind what he had in mind too much.
After all. It wasn't anything they wouldn't already have wanted to do.
He'd gone from Las Noches to Earth and then back to Hueco Mundo, just in case someone wanted to know what he was doing. Where he had gone. In case the King wanted to know what his Primera was up to. But after what he'd discovered with Weylin, Takua had been making preparations for the day that he knew would come eventually. It was only a matter of time now...time and finding out what else Obsession was hiding. In the end he might have to clash with one of the Broken again...and unlike with Severance, there'd be no Truth to defeat her first. He might have killed her, but there was no victory there. If he wanted to actually hang on to life and maybe even defeat one of those incredible beings, he couldn't stop growing.
Takua's feet crunched against the sand as he strode through the Forest of Menos. He'd been here many times over the centuries...sometimes as a hunter, sometimes just patrolling. Today he was here for an entirely different reason, and he let the full power of his reiatsu roll across the desolate land. It was a siren's call, a beckoning beacon here in the depths of Hueco Mundo, and the Hollow came to answer it from all around. The Primera stood in the middle of an open stretch of sandy cavern with only a few pillars of quartz around as he waited. The location would suit his purposes.
They came. In the dozens, in the scores, they came. Hollows who had only just arrived in Hueco Mundo, Gillian who barely even understood why they came or held themselves still before this predator, even two weak Adjuchas. They came and stood before him, called by the power of his reiatsu, by their own schemes, or by instinct. A small army that ranged from the titanic Gillian on down. This was the power that Takua could wield if he wanted to, something he might have done in another lifetime. Another universe. But this Takua would never enjoy commanding others like this...and he had no goals with which to use them. None but the one, at least.
He'd learned something incredibly valuable from Hi-to. Not that the man had known it. But what he'd done to Takua with his Kaido and how he had healed himself had sparked an idea in the Primera's mind. He'd seen what Kaido could do, after all. Tweaking the body in the smallest of ways, altering the biology of the victim or restoring destroyed flesh. It worked at a level below regeneration in many ways, since regeneration was primarily just concerned with restoring a damaged body. Kaido could work within the cell itself because it dealt with the actual spiritual body. Regeneration, on the other hand, rather firmly operated in the interplay between soul and body. No matter what other Arrancar thought of it, Takua now knew that to be true. Otherwise there could be no way for him to regenerate a body that had taken a sword through its brain.
So how, then, could he possibly make regeneration better? How could he let it do the kinds of things he suspected Hi-to was capable of and actually improve his body? There was a way he could think of. It would be painful as hell, but Takua found the idea of it worth the temporary pain.
Takua bared his teeth in a mockery of a smile at the assembly before him.
“Attack me.”
