Ahau Kin travelled across the desert at little more than a walking pace, the journey to Las Noches was taking far longer than expected and the damnable Fortress didn't seem to be getting any smaller. To make matters more troublesome the Cat-like Hollow was growing hungry and he hadn't come across another Hollow in some time, his last feast had been the useful Arrancar he'd managed to ambush.
Luckily for me he was already injured when I attacked and he was not only helpful but so delicious. Ahau thought to himself, licking his lips at the tasty memory.
Since then though? Nothing! Growling like the Jaguar he appeared to be he voiced his displeasure to an uncaring world. Also he was getting bored and the whole trip had become tiresome, he just wanted to nap but the endless desert stretching out before him revealed not a single place that looked safe enough to dwell in for a quiet nap. Another Adjuchas might have taken the chance unworried by the repercussions and more concerned with conserving their strength before hunting a new meal but not Ahau as always his fear drove him onwards. It had always been such, all beings were infested by fear although most were too prideful to admit it but not Ahau, he knew his fear and he was willing to use it as motivation...he would ride upon the waves of his own terror until he reached absolute perfection.
Tearing his gaze to the distant fortress Ahau felt a familiar sickness in his stomach at the idea of what was waiting for him there, he had never entered Los Noches and knew little about the Arrancar and less about their organisation. What he knew was that some form of King ruled there, the greatest Alpha in all of Hueco Mundo, he had never seen the Arch-Arrancar but even as far out in the desert as Ahau ranged he had sensed him or at least he had sensed something with power beyond imagination. So why go towards the beings with horrific power? That was the question he had been consistently asking himself since he'd begun walking this path, a question no doubt repeated a million times over by the lesser souls dwelling within him.
But the answer was simple.
Atychiphobia
He feared the thought of failing in his purpose as a Hollow, in his climb towards the last, greatest, form...that of the Vasto Lorde. Lately that fear had become more pronounced than ever. Ahau was aware of the fate that many Adjuchas, even those who avoided death, regression or being consumed by others often faced...when they simply stopped growing. Ahau had not reached that pitfall, not yet, but his growth seemed to be slowing. At first he had wondered if he was destined to simply cease evolving but that thought had been cast aside, hurled into the deepest depths of his suppressed fears. So instead he faced another possibility, that his prey was simply too meagre to allow him to grow stronger as swiftly as he wished. That meant newer pastures whether the stronger Hollows closer to Las Noches or the entering the World of the Living to seek strong souls there...that was not something he looked forward to but it was likely necessary. The idea of leaving Hueco Mundo shook him to the core, he had not done so in many, many years not since the death of his Pack.
So the solution was simple. Find new allies...perhaps one day even a new Pack. Strength in numbers had always been a comforting thought.
You're just lonely whispered a voice in his mind. What rubbish. Lonely? The great hunter Ahau Kin, Stalker of the Endless Sands, Hunter of Hollows and consumer of souls? Well maybe also because he was lonely but the strength in numbers belief was still valid. Allies aside Arrancar were strong, he knew that even in his ignorance. Ahau wondered if they could be alike the legendary Vasto Lorde? If so perhaps they knew a secret to gaining power and if they did he would win it from their good graces or tear it from their corpses. There was no other way.
Yawning he shook his head, it wasn't that he needed to sleep but the idea was certainly appealing.
I can not rest...not yet but I must eat. he told himself as the endless hunger gnawed at him.
It was with this final thought that he sensed something in the distance. A Hollow, not a particularly strong one but enough for a meal. Speeding up he raced towards Spiritual Energy and despite his increased speed his footfalls were as silent as ever.
In time he came across the other Hollow and stopped a fair distance away from the creature before lying low on the sands, it stood seemingly preoccupied in a dune just below the rise the large feline now stood on. With it's back to him Ahau was sure it had not yet detected him, perhaps this was arrogance but his track record as a hunter spoke for itself. Ahau's tail twitched slightly in anticipation.
It seemed to be an Adjuchas like Ahau himself although it wasn't particularly large, again like Ahau himself.
Time to begin he thought to himself.
Standing to his full height the Hollow allowed his Reiatsu to build up as he gathered Reiryoku in his mouth, opening his maw red light bled out into the desert. Once the ball of destructive spiritual energy was fully charged Ahau fired the Cero straight at his prey, this was the extreme range at which the beam of energy would be effective but it should be enough, he had used the tactic countless times before.
He would wait for the smoke to clear before assessing the damage and then use Sonído to clear the distance and finish off his target before consuming them.
A hungry smile crept across the cat's face. Then once he had eaten he would continue on his journey. Perhaps he would even find somewhere to have that nap.
