The full moon shone overhead as a lone individual walked through the quiet streets of the residential area of the two-hundred and third district of the Rukongai. The individual was wearing a loose fitting suit of civilian clothing, and moved in a way that indicated that she had every right to be where she was, and that she was in fact hurrying towards somewhere or something important. However, this became less and less apparent as she came closer to the boundary of the sprawling city and came to the edge of the Rukongai Forest. Finally she reached the very edge of the forest, and stopped.
Tsubaki looked up at the trees in front of her, and silently basked in the feeling of tranquility and safety that came from her forest. While it was true that forests like this one dotted the entirety of the Rukongai, this forest was where she had spent so many years of her life, and was where she felt the safest. This was her forest, and she was it's spirit. Tsubaki closed her eyes and took a deep breath, reveling in the scent of the earth and plants that emanated from the forest and replaced the odors of the Rukongai. She remained like this for a few more moments before she actually entered and became enveloped by the shadows and dappled moonlight of the trees.
Tsubaki moved silently through the trees, her footsteps completely muffled by the soft ground as she almost instinctively found a path that kept her from treading on any living plants. As she walked she would occasionally reach out and caress one of the trees as she passed, or would gently run her hands over the leaves of some of the large bushes that dotted the area. Tsubaki continued like this for nearly an hour, merely enjoying the feeling of the forest's atmosphere.
Finally, Tsubaki reached her destination. She let out a small sigh as she broke through the tree line into a large clearing, into her home. Before her lay the work of decades, the one thing that she devoted herself to more than anything else, before her was her garden. In the center of the garden there was a small pond, big enough for the few fish that lived in it, but only just. On the surface of the pond was the pure reflection of the moon, which was only disturbed by the occasional ripple caused by insects skating across the water, or by the fish briefly surfacing to feed on the insects.
The entire clearing was lit up by a gentle glow that came from a multitude of white roses that were scattered among the bushes and small, sculpted trees that were planted in the garden. These roses were something that Tsubaki was extremely proud of, as she had raised them herself, these were Lunar Roses, an extremely rare breed of rose that only bloomed at night, and glowed with the light of the full moon. The only exception to this was on the night of the new moon, when they turned a deep shade of purple, and let off a glow of the same color.
As Tsubaki walked along the paths that she had placed she did the same thing as when she had been in the forest, and caressed many of the plants she passed. However, unlike in the forest, these plants visibly bent towards Tsubaki, as if they were happy to see her and wished to greet her. While she wasn't sure, Tsubaki thought that this was caused by the plants slowly becoming infused with her spirit over the many years that she had tended them.
All to quickly Tsubaki came to the edge of her garden, where a moderately sized house stood. Without hesitation she opened the door, and walked in. The interior of the house was simple wood, and was obviously hand crafted, though it was meticulously clean and evidently well cared for. Tsubaki turned to the left and grabbed a pair of pruning shears and a trowel before she turned back to door and exited back into the garden.
Once she had stepped out she looked back over her garden, and nodded her head before getting to work tending the plants.
