Hello! So as promised, I have a couple moves I'd like to make. I've discussed this with some folks and I feel pretty good about it, but I'd rather talk about it before we change something that has been "the way it is" for literally years and years.
'In the beginning', requests were private. PM'd to staff and they posted it on their secret sanctuary, dissected, graded, and evaluated, then rendered a verdict. Secret arcane mysteries which no mere mortal would ever be able to comprehend. I like to think that in my multiple years here, this is probably the single biggest point of impact I have had to Bleach Gotei: revolutionizing and standardizing how we do requests.
-The Rubrics that I suggest staff use are pinned publicly already for Second Power and Prestige requests.
-We already have a public request board where Masteries and many other requests are shown publicly.
-There is no need to obscure mechanics from the public.
-Transparency is a good thing.
-Literally nothing changes between what I write privately and what I write publicly in a review anyway.
-Just about everyone asks to see their feedback anyway.
So with all the above in mind, here is what I would like to do.
I would like to make all requests public. Including submission, review, and any conversation about concerns over the request.
In the past, we've had a lot of solid requests be viewed negatively by staff because some submitters misrepresent things, or fail to include other things, or word stuff poorly. This can lead to characters who are deserving getting a 'no', and probably the opposite too. So to this end, why not encourage conversation and getting the right answer?
Of course I would like to note, that there are two circumstances that come to mind where we might want to allow exceptions:
1) There are PARTS of specific requests that need to be done privately in order to prevent spilling information. Such as goals need to be kept secret to preserve plot surprises, or payoffs, or other people's info.
2) I can't think of a good way to say this, but, some people do suffer from severe anxiety about publicly posting a request. I am amenable to helping people out in this regard.
So, whaddya think?
