Ahau stood on the outskirts of the Fortress that served as the capital of Hueco Mundo, the eternal fortress, palace of the King and home to the most powerful of the Arrancar…the Espada.
The feline shivered. This wasn't a good idea, he had avoided this place for nearly three centuries and for good reason. But then again did he really have any choice? The Arrancar that had once been so rare now seemed to be spreading everywhere and without learning more about the hybrids they could be a very real threat to his continued existence. Ahau knew Iko, the Alpha and leader of Ahau’s newly formed pack, didn't agree with such views but the weaker Adjuchas was fairly certain that the Simian-like Hollow was at least partially blinded by his hatred of the impure Hollow-Breed.
Ahau wished he could leave it alone but his curiosity had grown too great to resist any further and although he was afraid, terrified really, of what the powerful residents of this fortress might do to him he feared not knowing more.
Knowledge was power and Ahau would become more powerful than fear. He would learn the strengths and weaknesses of this odd breed of Hollow, he would learn from them what was useful and cast away the rest. These creatures who had abandoned evolution would only help him progress along the path to perfection and knowing their failures would let Ahau avoid them himself.
No! Too dangerous! Run! Flee! His own thoughts or the voices again? He had no idea. The Hollow couldn't even be certain if the voices were the multitude of souls he had consumed over the centuries of if he was simply going mad. Regardless he suppressed them, buried them deep, the fear was always there but it didn't have to control him unless he let it.
Taking a shuddering breath the Hollow began his slow progress towards the doom, each step etched with reluctance, he needed to do this and he wanted to learn more…but part of him also did not.
I will not allow my cowardice to undo me. I will learn more. I will be more. He thought viciously to himself as he increased his pace.
Despite his drive and silent conviction Ahau was already drawing his Spiritual Power into himself in an attempt at making his presence smaller, less noticeable, if he was weak enough perhaps they would ignore him as beneath their notice.
It too longer than the jaguar-Hollow had anticipated but eventually Ahau stood at the entrance, or at least an entrance and felt both confused as well as a little disappointed. There was nothing. Ahau had imagined Arrancar guards of towering strength, signs of a true Hollow-Breed army exuding a crushing spiritual pressure. True Ahau could sense a number of significant Spiritual Powers deep inside the fortress, some more than significant, but the majority were…unimpressive and barely better than Ahau himself, indeed he was certain he sensed those weaker than him.
Is this…it? He wondered looked up at the huge building that served as an entrance to the fortress, it looked poorly cared for almost as if maintenance was a mere afterthought.
Rather than put him at ease the lack of might only made Ahau more nervous, perhaps the deadliness of this place was hidden from his senses and if that was the case then he’d be dead before he knew it should it be decided that this unknown Menos was a threat.
Steeling his resolve Ahau entered through the entrance down a long corridor, empty and unadorned he imagined for most their footfalls would be echoing throughout the structure but not for the feline hunter who’s footsteps were practically silent although truthfully he had no idea why this characteristic existed although he was thankful for it.
The hallway led Ahau to a large hallway which led to many more exits which each seemed to lead down another hallway…it was here Ahau could sense a few respectable powers although they were still only around his own strength and certainly less than his leader's.
Perhaps Iko was right about the hybrids…perhaps they are weak.
The problem was Ahau had absolutely no idea which exit to take. Pausing he decided to do something a little risky and the fearful feline was ready to flee should an aggressor appear. With a nudge of his willpower he let his Reiatsu flow freely from his body although not with any exertion so there was no visible aura. He then waited.
And waited some more.
Nothing. No guards. No passing Arrancar.
Sitting down Ahau tilted his head a little annoyed now that this place wasn't meeting his expectations.
What now? Guess an exit or just leave?
Unable to make a choice the Hollow just waited...at least for a little while longer.
