Every day was an adventure. Even more so when you were living, serving and leading the Gotei. And especially when your day began with a letter from the Captain Commander stating that the Second Espada was to be executed. Nagisa had not been privy to the knowledge that the woman had been held captive, but was not surprised to find out that none other than Shun Minamoto was going to be judge, jury and executioner. If all the world’s a stage, then this one had certainly be set. The damsel in distress, Evelyn, the villain, Shun, but who’d be the hero? And was the fact that she saw the set-up this way already enough to get her into trouble? Once the Minamoto replaced Fujikagi, most certainly. Uttering a silent prayer to whatever god would listen for an accident to spirit away the most vocal Minamoto, Nagisa was surprised to see Robert take the scene. Was it her, or did he seem more riled up than usual? His face was frozen in a polite smile, but knowing the man it was quite clear that he was upset. Or prepared. The real question was why Nagisa couldn’t shake the gnawing feeling that something much bigger was soon to happen. That the execution of Evelyn was only a warm up.
Standing on a dais that led up to the bound Hollow and had been reserved for Captains, lieutenants and other high ranking personnel the Chinda watched as members of the Minamoto clan took turns gaping at the Espada, shifting uncomfortably under the knowledge that the Captain of the Fourth would probably like little more than to tie her up right next to the Espada.
’Charlatan.’
‘Whore.’
‘War Criminal.’
‘Murderer’
The cries of the masses were loud and it was only a matter of time before they’d pick a cheer to call for her death. Again the Chinda shifted her weight, well aware that many eyes were upon her, Seireitei’s Vaizard Captain. Wondering for but a moment what flattery they’d spit into her direction if they had the chance Nagisa crossed her arms. Again her mind drifted to the talk she had had with Kenshou Ine, and mused how long she was for this world.
“Speaking about unreliable men in my life, where is my lieutenant?”
Turning her head this way and that way it became quickly apparent that Shinpei Minamoto was late. To nobody’s surprise. However, the Chinda did lock eyes with someone else she had not spoken to nor seen in a while. One who was so close to the most infamous Minamoto that it was probably for the best to keep it that way. Even more so given the ugly nature of that woman’s soul. Just as Nagisa was about to look away something caught her eye, causing her head to swivel back and right brow to arch for but a heartbeat. There was another blade tugged into her obi, a nondescript sword with a sky-blue hilt. And yet the Chinda was sure that she had seen it before, mounted on the wall of a restaurant run by a very peculiar man. It couldn’t be. Or could it?
Realizing that she had been transfixed on the weapon for too long Nagisa blinked, straightened up and made a decision. If this belonged to him, then she had to know. He had been closer to her sister than anyone else, had effortlessly read her heart and, probably, ensured that it was not her who had broken in that perfectly burnable stake atop of the hill. How did she get that?
“Hello, Lieutenant, you look impeccable as usual,” Nagisa said and then nodded briefly towards the spectacle: “I am glad to see that you have successfully retrieved your Captain after his sudden disappearance a while back.” A brief pause after the pleasantries. “It seems that is not the only thing you have found. I hope you don’t mind me asking, but where did you get that sword?”
