Rebirth date: August 13th, 1897 (arrived in Seireitei at this date, and the biological age of seven.)
Gender: Female
Height & Weight: (5'6'' ; 120 lbs.)
Current Hair: Niji changes her hair color constantly with Appearance-Altering Bakudo's that she developed in her time in Division Three, currently her hair is a rich lavender color.
Current Eyes: Much like her hair, she uses a patented Bakudo she developed while in Division Three to change her eye colors frequently, currently they are crimson with violet flecks.
Sexuality: Lesbian, although it's more accurate to state that she's attracted to things she finds interesting and aesthetically appealing. Which so happens to usually be the female body in order of attraction goes Viazard's (intellectually since she doesn't know any personally yet) >> Shinigami >> Arrancar (would be higher than Shinigami, but she's put off by Ressurecions).

Physical Description: Niji when not using her clothing to hide and alter her physical appearance, has an hourglass shaped, voluptuous, shapely body with a well-endowed chest. Although being of average height and weight, her muscles are toned and supple built from life out in the wilderness, or on the run from one district or another for hundred years of her afterlife before she was brought into the Academy where being flexible and fit was a matter of survival rather than vanity. Her skin is mostly silky smooth and supple, stretched tautly over her lean muscles giving her a lithe and poised appearance, although her hands and feet are rough with callouses from growing and maturing where her budding spiritual and physical prowess were needed to hash out an existence.
While she changes hairstyles almost as often as she changes its color, it can usually be seen framing her face, and drawing attention to her eyes. Her eyes are wide, expressive, and while the colors may change when the mood strikes, they are always rich with emotion. Her face itself has prominent cheekbones, and gentle oval shape, with well-proportioned lips with a deep and v shape in her cupid's point.
Her Shihakushō itself is baggy, being a few sizes to big for her, allowing her to hide her curves and overall body type. Looking thin and elegant in her opinion rather than shapely and wiry, it also has the benefit of hiding things on her person, such as her blade without them giving themselves away. Draped across her shoulder is one of two noticeable differences to the normal uniform, that being a duffel bag that she uses to cart around tech, personal research files, and various odds and ends she might have on her person. And the other is a red, karate headband that she either wears over her eyes to focus completely on her Reiatsu Perception or around her neck like a scarf.
Clothing and Attire (casual): Niji at this point in her life when outside of work wears mostly the same type of thing, but instead of her Shihakushō is usually a baggy, black gi, or some type of loose sleeved, baggy jacket that she uses to cover up her sarashi. As well as her Zanpakuto's sheath, and any gear she might have on her. Although she usually keeps her regulation foot gear. When she's not wearing that type of clothing, she wears whatever she feels would both mask her body, and either make her non-imposing or generate the image she wants to give off at that moment.
Posture: Having little relations with people growing up, and learning social mores and cultural customs. But having spent time spying on pluses in Rukongai during her cycles of trying to fit in means her posture and bearing changes depending both on those she trusts, or is drunk around. Or those she hasn't let inside her shell, of the first part, she's friendly, physically expressive, full of exuberance and passion for the things in her life. To those, she doesn't much like her body and the way she changes her hair and eye color. Alters and changes herself to what she thinks would fit in best, of course with the little practical application it doesn't always work as she hopes it will.
Voice: Niji's voice has a velvet-like smoothness, with a hint of smokiness with a resonant and melodious timbre, gentle inflection and releases, and a rich but fluid vocal dynamic that usually changes pitch slightly depending on what she's feeling. When she's acting reserved and formal, it has a soft and reassuring quality to it. But with those she trusts, or if drunk, releases the rich and dynamic nature of her voice. Becoming very expressive, and flowing between engaging and boisterous.
Spiritual Description: Niji's aura looks almost like a swirling rainbow, with sparkles that dance within the storm. The different colors change rapidly with some colors overpowering others at times, and when she is around others it almost appears as if tendrils of her Reiatsu reach out to touch others. Caressing and prodding the auras of those in her vicinity like the arms of an inquisitive octopus. Taste wise it has an odd habit of changing to reflect her emotions, and usually has a sensual quality to it, although the exact taste and scent of it is something that Niji can't quite place her finger on how to describe.
As for its textural quality, is sensual and luxurious. Like being wrapped in a sea of velvet and silk, with undertones of warmth and comfort.
Behind The Eyes
“Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void but out of chaos.”
― Mary Shelley
Personality: Niji has lived from the age of seven to the apparent age of seventeen surviving in the wooded areas outside the various, ever expanding districts of Rukongai. With brief horrible forays into a society where the 'rainbow demon' was eventually driven off by mobs. This has led to several impacting parts of her personality. Mostly it has led to the hatred and fear of her Zanpakuto's power and disgust with her spirit. Since it's power was the same power that as she sees it, had her labeled as a demon and a monster. Secondly, it has given her a poor self-image of herself, since as she's seen it, there must be something fundamentally wrong with her if everyone either abandoned her or hated her with a passion, even before her spiritual powers awoke. And lastly, it's given her a very loose hold on how to interact with others, something that the Soul Society had to teach her from the ground up while controlling her spiritual power before allowing her in the school.
But the forests and the times she had to break into homes for necessities had taught her many valuable skills. Such as adaptability, the importance of ferocity when necessary or placating when not, and how to observe others and mimic them. Although the offness that sometimes comes across with the last one had more than one time had her being accused of being an evil spirit disguised as an honest soul or in districts with more European pluses, a changeling. Of course with her poor reputation she had much to do to get that turned around when she became a Shinigami, but even now there's some distrust of her in some more outlying districts. Which does nothing at all to fight the feeling that she's a demon and that something even with all the good she does is still wrong with her. Something her Zanpakuto reminds her of every time she gets dragged down there as she sleeps.
Her time in the Academy, and the sixteen years she spent prior to that learning how to be a more 'civilized' human being. Has brought the ingenuity she needed to survive, and the innate child-like hunger to consume all the knowledge she can get her hands on together. Has not only smoothed out a few of her rougher edges but has given her the tools to bring out the more positive of her traits. With the Academy, and later on the barracks being the place where she learned what it meant to be 'human', and connect with others. Even though the shell she puts around her to protect her from inevitable heartbreak when, as she sees it, everyone sees what all of the Rukongai sees, and abandons her as well. Even though her fellow Shinigami have treated her far better, and with more dignity than she's had for a century. Old habits die hard.
But those who break through that wall, and earn her trust. Or get her drunk, learn that deep down is a person who's friendly, engaging, and full of a love for life. That seriously wants to make the world a better place and to ensure the safety of her fellow Shinigami. Even if her natural intelligence and spiritual gifts that she doesn't despise are more fitting towards inventing and making things. Then they were towards division 3, which she started out in.

Positive Qualities: Inventor | Adventurer | Mediator | Artist
1) Inventive: This is representative of her mental and spiritual core. From the time she had to learn to survive in darker parts of Rukongai, where a sharp, flexible, and adaptive mind was needed to deal with the most dangerous predators of the forests. As well as after getting reintegrated into society, as well as the Academy has only grown. This strength defines her creative spark, skills she used in Division Three, and now in Division Four. As well as how she approaches most problems.
2) Venturesome / Adventurous:
This is representative of her physical core, as well as her general take on life. She's a risk taker, who's not afraid to take on difficult or unusual paths to reach her goals. While usually would be seen as a negative, her adventurous spirit drives her to try new routes, paths, or experiences. Pushing her to live outside the box and look for ways to accomplish something that others either don't see or would see as too dangerous to venture. Growing up, the ability to throw herself into things and see different paths was a survival tool. As a Shine, it's something that lets her think in a non-linear fashion and attack a problem from multiple angles. Both inside and outside of combat.
3) Good Natured:
This is representative of her emotional core. Deep down, emotionally, she's a person full of love and compassion that wants to make the world a better place, and modernize Rukongai so that it could be the paradise that was promised. To keep those she loves safe with things she's made with her own hands and birthed from her imagination. It's the reason why her aura is so warm and comforting because deep down she's a warm and comforting individual.
4) Studious:
An aspect of her inventiveness. She's a very scholarly individual, who meticulously consumes knowledge before attempting to apply it in a way that's as efficient and systematic as she can.
5) Poise:
As a martial artist, and someone who's spent over a century of her life whittling away wasteful movements and unneeded actions in her life. She carries herself with elegance and grace. Projecting an image of effortlessness and fluidity in her day to day life.
Negative Qualities: Self Image | Attachment | Loss | Feral
1) Poor Self-Image:
This is an artifice of being abandoned often, as well as rejected from society when growing up and before learning to control her spiritual power. After so many generations of being called a monster, a freak, a demon, and in some places a changeling. As well as those she grew close to leaving her. Has left her feeling as if there is something that she can't see that's inherently wrong with her. Her Zanpakuto Spirit and her Zanpakuto's power only emphasize the fact that she's a monstrous freak in her own head, add in the special kind of horror of going from a child to a young adult without anyone to explain the changes the body is going through, only compounded her negative self-image.
Because of those feelings of hers, she's constantly trying to develop new Bakudo and Kaido to change and alter her appearance. But with each change, comes only temporary relief before she changes herself again, trying to find a form that would make her the good person she tries being.
2) Shell:
While Niji isn't inherently introverted, generations of having hope that she could connect to the world, and be accepted. Only to have those hopes crushed has given Niji a large wall between herself and others. It makes her slow to open up to others for fear of them leaving her alone just like everyone else, or worse in her opinion. That they'd see that fundamental flaw, that horrible unseen thing inside her that everyone in Rukongai used to see in her, and hate her just as much as they did.
But that emotional armor usually drops under a few special circumstances. When she's drunk, the shell just doesn't drop, it disintegrates. When she's fighting, is inside a lab or exploring, when she feels the freest, reminding her of simpler times in the darker parts of Rukongai when it was kill or be killed. Then lastly when she trust another to let them in.
Otherwise, she's formal, polite, and works to change her actions to fit in with whoever she's interacting with.
3) Obsessive:
An aspect of Niji's inventive positive trait is that when an idea or something piques her interest it becomes pervasive until she either completes the idea, goes as far as she can with it, or follows it until her curiosity has been satiated.
4) Feral / Value Dissonance:
Having spent only nineteen years in proper society, and a century surviving in the darkest part of Rukongai has made her have different values and morals than most. Although she's always learning more of how to fit into the mold. At times, her old feral demeanor pops up, or she shows a complete lack of etiquette. Things such as personal space / property, proper eating habits, and things like knock before entering someone's room is something that she never had to deal with before. But is learning slowly but surely. As for her feralness, this usually pops up when she's fighting or things that remind her of her time in the jungles of Outer Rukongai.
5) Shy towards affection:
While she can act jovial and physically affectionate at times. A century of abandonment, or being treated as a monster has left her wary of those that show interest in her. Both from fear that if she lets others close they'll leave her. As well as the fear that there's something fundamentally wrong with her, and no one could ever like her more than an acquaintance. So romantic, or familial-like affection to her makes her shy and nervous.
Talents:
1) Inventor: This is something that both defines Niji, as well as what she's best known for. In Division 3 she spent time inventing Body Changing Bakudo and working on Surgical Kaido. In Division 4, she known for her various Research and Development interests as well as always looking to join in on things that are new, or never been seen before. With her diligent and meticulous work ethic, she's an inventor known for getting things done. Especially if said things could potentially benefit the Seireitei, or the humans Shini are tasked with keeping safe.
2) Martial Artist : At first it was a trait picked up to survive, but in time it's been something she's worked to hone. Her style relies on using Reiatsu Perception to read the battlefield, Internal Martial Arts techniques, and unmitigated as well as efficient use of violence. Wasting as little energy as possible, using defense to lead to an attack and non-linear combat. Using every trick and underhanded technique to win. While saving energy for other predators / opponents. [Kill count: unknown amount of animal predators. Six hundred and Ninety-six humans [thugs, bandits, and predators themselves] prior to joining the Academy.] Although she hopes one day to learn Shunko and fully mix Kido and Hakuda together like Sou-Taicho.
3) Mage: Niji is a skilled mage. Most of her kido is in Bakudo techniques built around tech, inanimate object reconstruction, or appearance alteration. While her time in Division 3 has given her kido based around surgery, and medical techniques. But she does have a small number of Kido that has martial arts applications.
4) Medic: Was in Division 3 prior to being relocated to Division 4. So she does have medical training.
5) Survivalist: A hundred years worth of survival training, asymmetrical combat tactics, and stealth. Has given her plenty of tools at her disposal that most don't have, even those in the slums that had families, or a support group within the city limits where there was at least a token effort of law or order. Of course those in the kill or be killed districts know a bit of what she's been through.
Strength Of The World
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
- William Shakespeare
And all the men and women merely players.
- William Shakespeare
Zanpakutō Spirit: Iroppoi Ningyōdzukai (Voluptuous Puppeteer) (色っぽい 人形使い) is a vivacious, and voluptuous (in every meaning of the word) woman with wild crimson hair. She wears a red headband with the kanji仮快事 (Karikaiji , "Worldly Delight") written across it. Tucked to the side is a sunset patterned layer of cloth that she uses to hide her face when changing the masks she wears. She wears a red sari wrap in a halter top like fashion*, and a red long skirt with a slit on the left leg and embroidered with gold colored dawn motifs. Can usually be seen with a giant gourd of liquor by her getting tanked.
Personality wise she's Niji's hopes, dreams, and desires. Completely without inhibitions, reservations, or fear. This makes Niji view her negatively, and adding in the power she grants Niji when released gives her an even greater dislike. Seeing her as a manifestation of her torment and loss in life. And the power itself proof that she' a monster, rather than working to befriend or understand her Zanpakuto.
* The Indian girl (Sahira) in the first three panels.
Inner World: The Bunraku Brothel of Worldly Delights:
Niji always goes here as she sleeps, and has always gone here ever since her asuachi manifested its form. When she enters, she arrives in a large room with a wide varnished wooden floor with a rail at the end. The rail overlooks what looks like endless Banraku stages with black caricatures of people or creatures wearing a skull-like styled Noh mask (mask, worn in Noh Theaters for their plays, made from cypress wood, but in Niji's case appears to be made of bone) with exaggerated expressions and characteristics. Each scene reenacting a dream, fantasy, desire or idea. Although Niji has never stepped onto the stage to see the plays themselves.
On the right wall of the large room is a series of masks, each one with Niji's face showing an expression, as well as one of the many changes she's made to herself over her life. With new ones coming as a new change to herself is added. On the left wall is a series of Skull like Noh masks representing people she's met and sampled their Reiatsu, as well as her opinion of them in her subconscious. When an act ends, Irropoi summons the masks on stage, dispelling the actors, and sends a new mask from her collection on stage.
Seeing all of this world reminds her of her own negative self-image, and her distrust and hate of her Zanpakuto at this point in her life. Rather than enjoying the dreams, or exploring fantasies simply watches from afar with a generally bad taste in her mouth when she awakens the next day.

Zanpakutō Sealed:
Niji's sword is unique, not that it's a Butterfly sword, nor that it's a dual sword. But in that, it's two swords that hold one spirit.
The Butterfly sword has a six-inch hilt with a knuckle guard, with the blade as long as the forearm. They are also thin enough to be held in the same sheath, giving the illusion of a single blade when in the sheath. But the real strength of the weapon comes from the fact that it was developed to be used to mimic hand positions and movements in Hakuda, and preparing the body for different weapon types. As well as the sai like hook near the spine of the knife which is used, much like a sai, to trap enemy weapons. With the knuckle guard usable as brass knuckles for when a non-lethal approach is necessary. Thus making their use Hakuda related rather than Zanjutsu.
Zanpakutō Released: When released, the blade and hook disappear scatter and infuse into Niji's Riatsu. Looking like flecks of blue light scattering off them as they disappear. With the handle and knuckle guard reversing sides, and tightening around her hands transforming into Ninja Climbing Gloves (also known as Shuko).

Release Phrase: Niji holds the swords blade facing downward, and raises one arm to the sky, and one pointing towards the ground ahead of her and says the phrase, "Set the stage, and draw the curtains Iroppoi Ningyōdzukai."
Zanpakutō Power: Mechanics Manipulation: When the blade scatters it becomes part of her Aura, by focusing her awareness on a target she releases an invisible (to all but those with equal or greater Reitasu Perception) string into the target and injects her Reitasu and spiritual power into it. As her power seeps through it, a Skull-like Noh mask forms on the targets body. Once formed it, in essence, becomes her blade, and she feels everything within it. For animate objects, she feels their bones, muscles, organs, the blood pumping through them. For inanimate, she feels all the things that make it, it.
With that connection, she's able to animate, manipulate, and power up all those she's connected to. Although she's only able to link up to 2 things per rank in Zanpakuto Resonance. And if the Noh Mask gets broken her connection gets instantly severed.
She usually uses this on tech, to power it up. Trying to find ways to avoid using it on sapient entities since she sees the power as a monstrous one. Rather than working to understand it, at this point in her life. But all things controlled by Niji's power become extensions of her blade, and when things controlled with it, or when it itself is used on a Hollow and kills it, they become purified. Just as if they were killed by a Zanpakuto blade.

Legacy Created
Vulnerability is the birthplace of connection and the path to the feeling of worthiness. If it doesn't feel vulnerable, the sharing is probably not constructive.

History:
Death and Lies:
Niji Amidasu was born Nami Kurasshi, November 7th, 1890. From birth, she had a health defect that made her spiritual energy deteriorate her physical body from within, and the doctors told her parents she wouldn't live past the year from the 'unknown illness' that was eating away at her. But a year passed, then three, and her parents had faith that she'd live a long and happy life. Even with her condition, but with some people a Shinigami just knows their time on earth is going to be a short one. As she grew up she saw a series of Shinigami who gave her the nickname of Niji because of her aura, which had a distinct rainbow like coloration but was caused by the same defect that was eating away at her physical body, leaving her bedridden and sickly.
As she grew up she heard about how Seireitei was a paradise and hearing about a great many adventures they had. Being filled with endless curiosity, she wanted to know everything, dreaming of the day when she'd be able to truly connect with the world around her, to live out the adventures she heard, to feel alive rather than bedridden and wasting away. But as was no surprise to anyone, she died before she could, at the age of seven. Having heard about paradise, and how she wouldn't hurt anymore she willingly accepted Konso.
The next thing she was in a place full of other souls waiting to be placed in the district where they'd be going, and just like them, Nami didn't remember anything about her life before the Konso. With a child's trust she went to the nearest Shinigami to ask what was going to happen to her, and looking at a list of arrivals named her Niji and told her that she was "in paradise, and would be going to Rukongai", where "good little girls could enjoy a happy life forever."
Of course, she ended up in the lawless slums of South Eastern Rukongai, the first of many things that added up to Niji's future self-image problems, and need to make Rukongai an actual paradise. She was lucky though to be placed with a family group, and for a time she was happy until one day they simply disappeared. No note, no signs of any reason for disappearing, simply one of the many souls that just upped and disappeared / declared dead in that district.

The Demon's Shadow and the Woods:
Niji waited for a three weeks and a few days hoping her family would come back when it was clear that no one was coming back, and after crying herself to sleep for a week afterward. Went around trying to find a place to belong, but no one wanted anything to do with her. So looking at the outlying woods that rested outside her district, after the fourth day of rejection, thought if no one wanted her she'd go into the woods and become a great adventurer than it wouldn't matter that no one wanted her. Or that somehow she was a horrible enough child that no one wanted her. Even if she had no idea what she could have done to make her so unlikable that was so or was so evil in life that she couldn't get paradise.
Of course letting a child make their own life decisions with no support group was a sure recipe for disaster. It took a week of being lost before she was overtaken by a pard of leopards. One of the many predatory animals that habituate the outlying areas surround Rukongai if you go deep enough in. But as the only good luck would have it, a wondering Martial Artist would come and rescue her. After getting verbally torn into for being an idiot, was asked why she was alone in the woods all by herself. After listening to her story took him to his house deep in the woods atop a mountain. It was then that he promised to teach her his martial arts style until she was proficient enough not to get her stupid self killed.
The martial artist was Enjiro the Demon's Shadow, as he called himself. A strongly built man dressed in a version of black Shugenja robes mixed with black martial art Gi with the kanji 影鬼 (Kageoni) etched on the back and a red headband worn over his eyes. Who's aura was a heavy crushing wall of strength that clung around him like a tangible force. It was the most grueling eight years of her life. Learning how to bring out her spiritual energy, and grow her Reiatsu Perception. Before survival and stealth training, how to make traps and weapons, and marital arts training that was to Niji more akin to being thrown around like a rag doll for years.
When he had taught her all he felt she needed to know to survive. He announced that he was leaving and that she wasn't a total failure as a student. And with that, she was alone once again, with only memories and the gear he had helped her make as proof of herself as his student. With a note stating if she ever was ready for true mastery, the Temple of the Demon King, hidden in the deserts far to the west was where she'd want to go. To this day, she hasn't searched for it. Whether out of fear that she won't see her Sensei there, or simply because she knows she's not skilled enough to try not even she knows for sure.
Spiritual Problems:
Alone once again Niji was determined to use her training to the fullest, and for twenty-two years, wandered the forests of Rukongai. The training she had received pitted at all the beasts creatures and humans alike, the forests had to offer. It was at this time that she went into one of the far eastern districts of Rukongai to try and connect with people. To connect as she had yearned for since the moment her family in the South Eastern district left her. Now looking like an eleven-year-old girl on the cusps of development, her body showed the thirty years of survival training. A lithe body, firm muscles, and a predatory grace that had killed many things in more battles than Niji could count.
Even though wary of her. She found a group of individuals who took her in for her working in their little Inn. The next morning she awoke to the turmoil that strangely reflected a dream she was having. The adults of the Inn had woken up with people other than those they were married to, and the children had stolen things they coveted when Niji was near them. But none of them had an excuse and it was something completely out of character for them. The only thing that had changed was that they took in a stranger from the forests. It wasn't long before she was kicked out and she looked for someone else to stay with, only for the next night a similar event occurred, putting two and two together. They surmised that Niji was a demon sent to torment their section of Rukongai, of course when they tried to forcefully kick her out and she maimed the residence in self-defense didn't help her case any.
But Niji ran, and kept running till the next day. It was the first time she was called a demon, but if her dreams did that to others than Niji felt that maybe they were right. Unfortunately not even a week of inner reflection found were that evil power was coming from, but it did make sense that she was sent to the slums, then rejected by family and Sensei alike if she had such evil within her. Feeling as if that power was somehow sensed by everyone but her and made her a monster trying to parade as a human. From then on out Niji spent large amounts of time in the forests, with brief forays into different sections of Rukongai. Each time ending the same way. It wasn't until she became a teenager that the pluses calling her monster, or a demon truly set in.
Entering womanhood is a scary enough thing with adults there to explain what's going on. Having no one but herself in that part of her life scared her. Seeing the change as proof that everyone who was maligned against her was telling the truth. Even worse was the looks men started to give her, which is the start of her wearing baggy clothing and garments designed to hide her body. To make matters worse, the lack of contact with people had given her feral mannerisms and a personality that was suited to violence and a Darwinian mindset. Even spying on others and seeing how they acted didn't change that when she tried emulating that behavior, only reinforcing the negative opinion she dredged up in others.
It wasn't until she was one hundred years of age that things turned around. Shinigami that had been tracking reports of citizens strangely doing strange and immoral things at the arrival of a monstrous demon from the forests disguised as a woman.

It wasn't until she was one hundred years of age that things turned around. Shinigami that had been tracking reports of citizens strangely doing strange and immoral things at the arrival of a monstrous demon from the forests disguised as a woman.
Found out:
And close in they did. In December 21st of 1980, she was found by a Shinigami who had picked up her trail in the South Western district of Rukongia. With the amount of problems that the power was reported to have, as well as a skewed testimony of the places she ran from that painted her as capable of unprovoked violence and mayhem, decided to constrain her as if she were a dangerous criminal, rather than a misunderstood plus with no control over her powers, or acting in self defense the only way she knew how. This opinion wasn't made any better when being awoken by a power suppressing bakudo from the dead of sleep causing her to give a scream that was more animal than human.
When she calmed down seeing no way of escaping, she looked at him with wide fearful eyes and asked if he was going to kill her quickly, or drag it out for awhile before finishing her. She never knew if it was the question itself that threw off the Shinigami, or if it was the fact that the quivering of her voice and her eyes shimmering with unshed tears didn't make her look like the dangerous criminal she was reported to be. But he sat down a few body lengths from her and talked. The interrogation if it could be called that was strange for Niji, it being the first time since her Sensei that anyone had started a conversation with her just to talk. Even more strange it spat in the face of the law of the jungle. She had been captured, she was weaker than him, yet he didn't end her life. So hoping to enjoy a last few moments of life before things started working out as she thought made sense would happen. At least that's what she thought. So she told him the story of herself.
From when she was arrived and told that she'd be in paradise, to her foray into the woods of the South East slums. From her Sensei teaching her in his forest home, to her trek throughout Rukongai. Finally to her dreams making bad things happen, proving that everyone calling her a demon had merit. Finally ending with her saying that she was ready to die now that a more powerful opponent had captured her, mentioning in passing that she wondered if Demon's reincarnated. Only to be further confused when she was told that she wasn't going to die, but was going to learn how to operate in society and control her powers by becoming a Shinigami.
The Academy and Beyond:
It was eighteen years of the most grueling and boring training she ever had to sit through. The customs and culture that she was learning were spitting in the face of a century of living, and if that culture shock wasn't enough. Then the Kido training to both drain her spiritual reserves before sleeping, along with using her Reiatsu Perception to be turned inwards rather than outwards while sleeping surely was almost enough to push her past her wits end. But eventually, she was deemed ready enough to study alongside other Shinigami and go to the Academy. Here she excelled at reading comprehension, and science. For which she had an innate grasp of, and after eighteen years of Kido training her Kido wasn't anything to sneeze at. What gave her the most problems was Zanjutsu, for which she had no aptitude for it in the least, and Hakuda. Not that she was horrible at it, but rather her losing herself in battle and injuring her peers got her banned from Hakuda training. Something that Niji told everyone up and down wasn't her fault that the school had weird rules and customs about fighting. For which she'd inevitably get told that the Academy isn't the jungles. They are civilized and don't spar with the intent to injure or maim one another.
So it was that things went until her third year of the Academy. When she awoke her Zanpakuto. Only for her dreams to turn into a nightmare. She had been told that a Zanpakuto was a reflection of the users soul, that it was a welcome companion that would help them grow, that it was an extension of who they truly were. And for her, it was a reminder of all the times she was called a demon, a monster, a freak. It was proof that deep down, she was a monster. After all, if her power before becoming a Shiki caused so much crime and anguish, then how could it be a good thing?
Over the last three years of Niji's training saw her change her hair color and style, as well as colored contacts, that no one remembered what she originally looked like. And after leaving the academy was when things became clear cut to her. Sure her time in the forests, and her training in by Demon's Shadow made her perfect for Second Division where those talents would truly shine, and Fifth Division would have seen her combat prowess used to it's fullest, possibly giving her others to spar that were stronger than her to allow her to push herself without worrying about getting in trouble for it. But both of those were reminders of parts of herself that she wished to distance herself from, a small sliver hoping that she could prove that she wasn't the monster her power was reminding her she was.
So she set out to the Third Division, under Fujikaji-Taicho. It was a place where she could help Rukongai become the paradise Shinigami lied about, help her fellow Shinigami whom she did love as family, it would even allow her to experiment with Kido and develop many interesting things while also learning medical kido to further help others. But as time wore on she became disenfranchised with the division. It wasn't the leadership that did it, Fujikaki-Taicho was amazing, nor was it her studies. She was developing interesting Kido that was useful in altering herself as well as general surgical uses. Even if they weren't as fine tuned as she wished. Nor was it exactly that she wasn't helping Rukongai. She had done enough over the years of her stay there to get acceptance from those who once scorned her.
No, it was the fact that no matter what she did she was, in her opinion, slapping a band-aid on a rotting system. One that kept stagnating and getting worse over time. Stuck being the same as when she entered all those generations ago. So when Fujikaji-Taicho to his position as Sou-Taicho on December 10th, 2015. She felt it was time to move where her skills could truly help others, and transferred to Division 4. Where her scientific and creative energy could be used to gather the advancements of the modern world and utilize those to truly help her fellow Shinigami, and someday somehow bring those advancements into Rukongai where she would make it the paradise that was promised to each and every soul in Soul Society, and if she was truly lucky better other planes as well.

The sun shined brightly through the Grand Library window where Niji sat, making Niji feel as if she were slowly being cooked. But she couldn't move, not yet. She had just stumbled across something that was the answer for her problem, it was a tiny lead, something mentioned in passing already, but until she saw it in the book before her it didn't click. So the healing arts simply restore the soul to the state that the soul knows. Bringing it back to a whole state ... but what if instead of restoring the soul it changed how the soul saw itself? What if instead of correcting an imperfection, it was altered to mold to how another wished it to be?
Niji, you're being ridiculous. Yes ... possibly what you're thinking could work. But you aren't going to use it to help others, you just want to do something to change yourself.
Of course, I'm going to be changing myself. That's the only way to get rid of whatever's inside me that makes me a demon.
Not this again, there's nothing wrong with you, or your power. You wanted to connect with the things around you. You wanted to know all there was to know about the world. But you also wanted to be safe. There's nothing wrong with any of those, and you aren't evil for something you had no control over. So stop calling yourself a demon. You're a healthy, beautiful, young woman and you need to accept yourself. You'll only be miserable otherwise, no matter how many changes you make.
Of course, you'd say that. You need me to use you if you want to use your vile powers on others.
Niji tuned out Irropoi and focused on the task at hand. Sure she was working on making something that would immediately benefit herself, but she couldn't deny that the technique if and when she ever mastered it would be able to help a lot of others. Cosmetic Surgeries, altering body parts that healed wrong, possibly even used to restructure things that were inanimate. After all if a soul was just a collection of reishi, and inanimate objects where reishi as well. Then why not utilize it to fix things other than bodies. The potential use was infinite, just needed to find a place to start, and people willing to be test subjects. Maybe Division 4 has some people willing to experiment on getting better bodies? At least until I get the groundwork done.
