You're not supposed to be doing this, they've told her when she had entered the Senkaimon. There were so many things that people weren't supposed to do. Like ransacking a Captain's office for a start, but where was the fun in that?
With the road finally uncoiling ahead of her, Kasumi let the energy flow into the motorcycle and sped up. The wheels spun quicker, they vigorously tore through the sandy surface of the path that led towards her goal. If the coordinates she had gotten were right, then the woman who was responsible for the second Karakura disaster was hiding in a shrine somewhere in the forest of the mountain. In fact, she didn't doubt that this Fujimura Sekai would be there. Hi-to's proficiency in gathering information was simply too high to mess up something so important.
'If we ever get back, he'll chew you out for it.'
Vör was right, but those were worries for later.
The path widened once the steep stairs came into view. A shiver ran down Kasumi's spine when she came to a stop at the foot of the mountain. She could vividly remember the pressure she had felt from behind the last barrier. The woman was nothing else but a monster. Gritting her teeth the girl closed her eyes; she was trying hard to ignore the throbbing in the back of her head. Those drinks from last night were killing her, but she doubted that the headache was something she had to pay any attention to – in just a couple of minutes she would have bigger worries than a hangover.
Sliding from her vehicle she could sense Vör's hesitation. This might be the worst idea since her outburst in Nagisa's office, and that had happened only yesterday. It seemed that Kasumi's tendency to do stupid things was rapidly picking up in frequency.
Quietly taking off the earrings, she hid them beneath the saddle and turned her eyes on the stairs. The climb wasn't hard and the view from all the way up there was magnificent. Only when she was halfway through the stairs did she catch the reiatsu of the one she had come for. While it wasn't squeezing her or pressing down on her in any way, it still caused Kasumi's guts to stir uncomfortably. Anxiousness mixed with awe that was brought forth by the odd presence ahead.
Taking a couple of long seconds to calm down her nerves Kasumi clenched her fists and proceeded to follow the stairs towards the heavens. With every step that she took she became more and more certain about her choice. If nobody would confront this woman about her actions, then she might do it again. People would die, souls would get devoured by roaming Hollow-breeds and Shinigami would have to give their lives in a fruitless attempt to fix someone else's mess.
She has to pay for it.
Actions had consequences. Kasumi had learned that the hard way.
Stepping into the courtyard she stood still for a moment, allowing herself to enjoy the wind’s gentle caressing of her grim face.
She could still remember the man's pleas while the Hollow tore off his leg just a couple of days ago. There had been so little that Kasumi could do to soothe him after ripping him from his assaulter's claws. She didn't even want to think about the bloodied remains of the soul that he’s been trying to save before getting attacked. The poor Plus had never gotten to pass on. It just got devoured by the smaller Hollow-breeds instead.
‘They might find rest one day.'
“Rest?”
The word sounded hollow and left a bitter trace on her tongue. Kasumi knew what it was like to die, to ‘pass on’. There was nothing peaceful about desperately trying to remember how things have been in the past, to imagine what they would have been had you taken another road. At least she couldn't blame anyone for what had happened to her. She had been foolish to let the Snake guide her and that had been her downfall. But all those people in Karakura... All those humans that had done nothing wrong. Most hadn't even gotten a chance to defend themselves from what was coming!
Angry steps echoed across the area as Kasumi stomped towards the shrine. If she had been able to open a Garganta she might have gone to Las Noches instead. Unfortunately, she couldn't. Slowly learning to work with the resources that she had, Kasumi swallowed nervously before walking inside to face the bitch who had thought it to be a good idea to fight with that Broken ass of an Arrancar in the middle of a populated area.
“You!”
The furious hiss bounced off the stony construction. Silvery snakes curled beneath her skin as her reiatsu flowed through her as she barely controlled her anger while staring at the culprit.
“I – You-” Slightly shocked by the woman's appearance Kasumi tried to gather her thoughts. She had never expected her to have the same white locks... and her height – was this a kid? A human so strong, a young mortal with the potential to shake a realm – someone with a future?
“Do you have any idea what you've done?!”
Using her confusion to fuel the anger she felt, Kasumi took a threatening step forward. If this kid thought to be able to do whatever she wanted then she was mistaken. It mattered not how strong she was, Kasumi would – would. …
'What will you do?'
SHUT UP!
Blue eyes shifted to a steely grey. Like a mist the cold spread all around them, seeping into the stone and wood alike. Kasumi gladly welcomed the frost, the snow and the cutting, sweet air that was brought by the cold. Tightly gripping the hilt of her Zanpakuto she pulled the sword free from its sheath. Having received no seal, she exhaled calmly before pointing the tip of her blade at Sekai.
“My name is Shinoda Kasumi and I cannot allow a threat like you to exist.”
Hate, hate hate hate.
Once her hands had ceased their shaking she whispered.
“Bankai.”
